Section13raiderfan.  Could not agree more.  On 3rd and 1 or 2 yds.  having 2 backs would help so much.  Nemeth is the one.  reminds me of Simon on last year's team.  B.J. would best be aware when the def. has quick skilled players, the dancing too much is not going to work.  Take what is there, not every carry is going to be a t.d. run.  Mount has not been able to run it 3 times and get a first down as much as they have in the past.  This is needed to kill the clock in the second half.  Mount might best be served to play some zone coverage to mix it up.  A 3 deep zone with some m/m under.  this  season has been such a success and with Heid., John Carroll, Franklin, Wittenberg, and Wesley having teams that were able to win the game.  This team would be a little above avg. w/o Kevin Burke.  So, here's to Vince and Jeff being able to plug the dam from leaking so much.  I find it hard to believe that NC can be more effective then Wesley or John Carroll at passing the ball.  If they are,  oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Mount doesn't figure out how to cover and pressure you may be seeing the same thing again this week.  The evidence says that NCC will be good at throwing the ball.  Will be an interesting game next week.

Year of the Redhead?

I can't help noticing that North Central has more top players with red hair than I've ever seen on one team.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against redheads. I married one. I have two sons with red hair and also two brothers.

I have no idea if NCC will be better than some of the QBs that have been through Alliance so far.  It will be hard to beat 633 and 8.  But Spender Stanek is the top rated passer in the nation so there won't be any rest for the Mount secondary.  Stanek has thrown for over 40 TDS with only one interception this year.  Completing 74% of his passes.

May need to check if the UMU scoreboard Hs 3 digit capabilies for each score box!

This would be a GREAT time for Mount to bring back its famed "5-2-5" defense.

+ karma for the Pam Ward reference.  I presume, anyway.   ;)  As a woman, I just cringe when a female sports commentator does not represent properly.  She said it TWICE........... ???  >:(

Everyone  at Mount has a lot of respect for North Central, but what happen in Alliance  last
Saturday is, IMHO, not likely to happen this week. If it would, then a scoreboard change may be needed.
We will see some scoring, but also see some defense at key times for both teams.

I'm not trying to take away from Stanek, but as ridiculous as that is, bill Borchert had another 23 more TD passes than Stanek and the same number of interceptions.  I will always wish I could have seen that season.  Quite possibly never to be repeated.  Heck, the may have a chance to catch Borchert on Saturday the way Mounts d has played.

jaypeter,

At this point I would be happy with a low scoring smash mouth game, vs this aerial frenzie that we
have seen this year. Hopefully, the Raiders will work on the improvements to control the game a little
better than last Saturday! :-\

Absolutely agree with that.  As rough as the Mount Union defense has been at times, 688/8 is an anomaly.  Well earned, but in a lot of ways an anomaly.  It's like Matt Flynn holding the Packers single game yards record.  I don't expect to be lit up quite like that again.  Even the most deluded NCC fan who believes their quarterback to be the best Mount will have faced can't expect that kind of line to be repeated (although mount hasn't seen anything like Stanek before!   ;D ).

I will say that teams are seeing that they can pass on Mount.  They will try to keep doing that.  And now Mount Union has got to try and come up with some kind of adjustment that allows them to get pressure with just the line.

I almost wonder if something like the Giants pulled in Super Bowl XXV could work.  They literally rushed 2 linemen for much of the game as a way to slow down the passing game of Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, James Lofton.  Dropped 10 in coverage and only let one receiver behind them all game.  As soon as a receiver caught the ball, he was drilled by at least two guys.  Belechick (Giants D coordinator at the time) was rumored to have started the defensive game plan meeting by saying that two things were going to happen.  Thurman Thomas was going to win MVP and the Giants were going to win.  He was a short OJ Anderson TD run away from being right on both accounts.

Not sure how that would work with our linemen, but even top quarterbacks would have trouble finding windows with 9 or 10 back all day.  It's a huge risk though.

... and he was two feet to the left on Scott Norwood's 47-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining away from being wrong on both accounts.  :(

Nah...if that field goal was good the MVP was Thomas' hands down.  I meant Anderson only got it bc he got a TD along with his yards.  Had the Giants last TD been a pass, Thomas may well have won the MVP in a losing effort.

Anyways, my main point was wondering how Mount might adjust to make up for a weakness.  Or do the roll a little help to one side and figure/gamble that 59 points, 688 yds, and 8 TDS can't possibly happen again

USee

You can't just pass the ball and beat Mount.  If 633 and 8 doesn't win, that should tell you something.  The team that runs the ball more effectively and doesn't turn it over will win this week.  Running effectively keeps the other QB off the field. That's the formula for success IMO
