The current plan is for Jr. & I to get to Salem around 1 ish on Friday.  We will hit the hotel quick to check-in, and then head to the tailgate.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone, as I haven't been down the last three years due to stupid company Christmas parties.  Now that I work for myself.....poof....problem solved!   ;D

I am one that has picked UWW against Linfield, and again vs. MHB.  I am sold on how good their defense is against anyone.  This will be the classic GREAT offense vs. GREAT defense.  As in previous Staggs with these two teams it might just come down to the kicking game (which UWW has won in recent years), and turnovers.

In my opinion, the game will be won (or lost) in the trenches. While turnovers will certainly be a key to the game, the turnover battle is most often won by the team that wins the line of scrimmage. Every phase will be important, including special teams.  But, IMO, whoever wins the line of scrimmage is likely to take home the Walnut and Bronze.

Mount Union is asking everyone to wear white.  Every thing I have is purple or black & purple.  If you have white, wear it.
If everyone wore white at the semifinal, it would have looked like no-one was there!    So does that mean all the purplesuits will be dyed white?   Given the temperatures that is probably not a bad look!   ;D

I know UWW is flying out of Madison tonight and I just want to wish all those who are going to Salem this week, safe travel.

Could not agree more!  Winning the line of scrimmage leads to EVERTHING!  Pressure on the QB, lack of running lanes and filled gaps, turnovers, etc., on the defensive side.  Success with the running/passing game, field position, time of possession, etc., on the offensive side. I have always contended that the #1 reason we were, finally, able to win in 07 against the Raiders was the fact that it was the first time that we won the LOS.  I just hope our youngsters on the OL are up to the task.   ;D 8-)

Just to confirm, this from the "... official facebook fan page for the University of Mount Union Department of Athletics."  "We have seen plenty of White in Alliance the last few weeks and the Raiders are wearing all white this week so let's all WHITEOUT the #StaggBowl."

Apparently Las Vegas oddsmakers agree that the Warhawk Defense will be the difference...If I read the charts properly(I'm not a gambling person, so don't know a lot about these things)  UWW is a 4 and 1/2 point favorite.

If Mount has to win the line of scrimmage we might as well stay home as we have little to no chance of doing so.   Best hope is for Mount to make the LOS as close a stalemate as possible to give Burke a chance to work is magic to offset the UWW advantage in size and speed in the front 7.   If dominanted, we lose.   But stalemate and we have a chance to move the ball.   Same defensively too.   Just don't get dominated.

Which is why I think this team over-achieved in getting to Salem.    This is one of our weaker O and D lines in the last 20+ years.   Very reminiscent of the early/mid '90's teams.   Winning inspite of their line play, not because of it like most of the 2000's and very QB dependent.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I am picking UWW to win, but since I will be cheering for Mount (cant believe I actually wrote that ;D), I will  e wearing my white Wesley jersey so I can join the white out.  Looking forward to this one and seeing you all in Salem.  Get there early enough, wife is making some jambalaya for me to bring and add to the Stone Station tailgate.  Is it thursday yet?

^  Dad:    Given your history of "Wesley Luck", any chance I could bribe you into rooting for Whitewater instead?   Please?

Yah....don't worry.  He used to hang out on the UWW side, so I think deep deep down he's still rooting for UWW.   ;)

It's all good....it will be what it will be.

413......defensively I will agree with you.  Offensively, it was UWW's ability to finally throw more on balance, especially off of the play action.  They went from trying to throw everything deep in 05/06, to having that "Danny" sum beech regularly throwing the 6/8/10 yarder off of play action every time UWW needed a first down.  It was a back breaker!

I think it will be a balance between Mount's offense, and UWW"s defense, hence my belief that the kicking game could be the difference.

Or Mount scores 42 and UWW can't keep up.   ;D 8-)  Yahhhhhh..........I am liking THAT!

This appears to be the most interesting match-up of the dominants.
Not one person from the Northwest Conference or the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will be there to participate and watch.

And that's why the Stagg Bowl will never be held within a 1,000 miles of the Catdome. You guys are just not all that passionate about football out there.  ;)

Wait, I just want to make sure that I am understanding this.....the team that wins the line of scrimmage will win the game, with turnovers and offense, defense, and special teams all being important on Friday?

My mind is blown, who knew that the game of football was being redefined in WI.  Next you are going to say that the team with the most points on Friday wins the National Title.
