Raider 68

In 2011, UWW won the game 13-10. Mount gave a away a touchdown with a fumble on the 5  their yard line.

For 2013, what is the same is that UWW has a huge OL, like NC and Wesley, but a better defense. Winning the LOS is obviously
a key factor for this game but not the only one. Wesley's front defensive 7 were big and fast and did limit K. Burke,
but the Raiders also scored 62 points despite that. An intangible for this game is the fact that this Raider team,
despite being young is well battle tested and does not give up especially their leader. IMHO, the game
could be like the many MTU/UWW games, close with the winning margin not more than 10 pts
or given the favorable weather a higher scoring contest.

Hopefully, ESPN will have decent announcers! :-\

For all the fans who follow Mount, this week the Radiers are the under dog.  They are not the favorites.  They are not  looked at as having the best team.  This has turned into a real challenge for this young Mount team.  They will have to play unlike the previous Mount teams did in close losses in the stagg bowl.   They made costly mistake(turnovers) at the wrong time that at the end of the game cost them a victory.  They beat themselves.  Going back Mount has been the under dog in many a contest and met the challenge.  Remember Rowan, LaCross , St John, and UWW and a few more.  This game would be a real big win for the players, VK and the staff.  It will take great focus and effort to come out on top.  This is what I expect will happen.  This would put the cherry on top of the cake for a great season.  Regardless of the final score, this season has been a hoot and I have enjoyed it so much.  Win or not the team next year is going to be so much stronger.  The expectations that are put on this program are unlike no other program. GO RADIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry, PurpleSuit, nobody was telling you anything.  Nobody would dare speak to your highness without being spoken to.

I don't get the hostility, but do you know that 1+1=2, or 2+2=4.  Isn't that incredible analysis? you're welcome UWW students, you can pass your senior math exams now.

I didn't know John Madden was a UWW poster on the site, we should all be grateful to have that kind of football knowledge posting prior to the game.  Line of scrimmage and all three phases being important...wow

the next prediction from WI, there will be one team that scores more than the other.  That team will be the National Champion....

The fact that both Mount Union and Whitewater were able to reach the Stagg Bowl on supposedly "down years" has to be scary for the rest of DIII. Hell, UWW wasn't even picked to win their conference this season, let alone run the table to get to Salem.

Whitewater is returning all but one offensive starter next season, and it sounds like Mount is in a similar boat with what they're returning. I thought for sure this would be the season that a NCC would play a Linfield in the Stagg Bowl. Or a St. Thomas verse a MHB. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of each other this time of the year in the future.

The turnover difference sure does seem to be the key factor in the previous Stagg matchups between these two programs. That's partly what makes this game so interesting is we really don't know what UWW offense will be on display. The ball control, very conservative O seen vs UMHB or the aggressive O seen vs Linfield (for 2 quarters).  I think we know what the Mt O will display.

I am a bit surprised that people think of UWW as "big" this year. I haven't compared rosters but I don't see the UWW D line as big at all, while the O line may be a bit below average O line size at UWW.

I do hope the announcers deliver the broadcast with energy and enthusiasm.
I know people rip Pam W from the 2007 game- but I personally feel she and her broadcast partner at least brought life to the game.

I'm pretty sure Skunks is a Mount fan, PurpleSuit. There has been very little talk about the game up to this point. I didn't see Skunks' post as the be all or end all of what he could offer on this game. I saw it as a conversation starter. I followed with another thought (obvious? maybe) that would hopefully continue the conversation about the game on the field.

And since you are so insightful and knowledgeable. Perhaps you can add a constructive post about the game. You know, the non-obvious stuff that only experts like you know about. Try to keep the words small for us UW-W folk who read it.

The only reason I don't slice you up, chew you up, and spit you out on these boards is that I have too much respect for Mount Union and the other Mount posters. Your raging anti-UW-W rants are laughable. You leave yourself and Mount wide open to counter-attack given the results of the last three Stagg Bowl games between the two teams.

It's funny but I've always had the feeling in reading your posts that you remind me of someone. I remember now.  You remind me of the little kid we used to beat up in high school.  ;)

Coach, I picked them to win, that should be good enough for a jinx on them!!! :D

Sidekick, I only sat on that side because that is were Stone Station had the tickets and they liked that side of the stadium.  You know deep down I am a closet MOUNT fan!! ;)

are you insinuating that D3 posters are just using the stereotypes of UWW being huge and Mount being quick, without using facts?  Noooo.  Everyone knows that UWW is huge on the lines, almost pro sized and Mount just can't match up.

These are incredibly different teams from a couple of years ago, the arm chair QB's of D3 should recognize that.  Hell, had Burke replaced the will not be named Mount QB in the second half of 2011, who knows what would have happened.

bleedpurple,

Skunks knows that I have no problem with him, actually the opposite.  If you feel the need to "slice me up, chew me up and spit me out" please go ahead.  UWW got lucky that their run coincided with the worst 3+ years of QB play at Mount in 20 years.  UWW had good teams but I don't think that there could be one Mount fan that would argue Seaman/Piloto were even decent Mount QB's.  2011 is the perfect example, the poor QB play is the difference between UWW scoring enough to win.  If only we could argue about the 2012 Stagg, but your team lost a few too many games.

I really feel bad that if I remind you of a kid you beat up in high school.  I'm sure that was many years ago for you, but it does not surprise me that you want to relive your "glory days."   What a tough guy.  But I'm sure that if you met me, you wouldn't think I was a little kid that you beat up 20 years ago.

Over recent years, nearly every line Mount has played outside of conference has been bigger than theirs.  They've been running the smaller, more agile lines for a while and it's served them well, until the Stagg where UWW's bigger--and fundamentally sound--lines have worn them down.

For me, overall, this is a hard Stagg to judge.  I've seen just a few minutes of Mount Union footage this year...all while watching on my phone via ESPN3.  It's also hard to get a good feel for a team when all you've seen of them is obscured by 6+ inches of falling snow!  I was at last week's UMHB-UWW game, and while both teams looked good, I'm wondering if they're relative strength sort of cancelled each other out and neither team blew me away.  That was as much football as I've watched all season...a move, a time change into the heart of Sunday football, a new job that lasts later into Sunday afternoon, and 10 weeks without TV make it hard to see much football action.

I've been feeling all year like this would be a Mount Union team that wouldn't make it to the Stagg.  I've been feeling all year like this would be a Mount Union team that wouldn't have the offensive firepower to carry them.  I've been feeling all year like the defense would save them in a few games.

Yeah, how's that working out for me?

Sounds good, I'll be certain to tell UWW's athletic department to insert astricts next to those championships. I'm interested to hear your excuses about 2007. Did Garcon get caught looking a head to the NFL? Too many miles on the tires for Kmic? Defense had too many shutouts during the regular season so they didn't take UWW seriously?

Also, UWW won the Stagg Bowl in 2010 with its back-up QB. While Coppage had a bad ankle in the 2011 game.

If Mount Union doesn't win the Stagg Bowl, then there must be something wrong with them...nevermind the team they're playing against. Right? (I'm beginning to sound like retagent  :-X )

I did not make a single excuse about injury.  Although the K. Rocco injury vs Wesley in the semi's was huge.  Maybe Coppage's ankle would have been better if he evenly distributed those extra grams.  I never said that UWW was not a national championship caliber team, your example of 2007 is a perfect example.  I was just saying that the last three years of Mount vs UWW featured a subpar Mount team.  UWW won the titles fair and square, Mount was just a shade of their typical teams those years.  Particularly on offense.

No offense meant, just responding to the big bad high school bully bleedpurple.
