Raider 68

Not surprised about Coach L. Kehres's move, but for 2014, the concentration has to be returning the defense to championship
caliber which it was not even close in 2013. Hope recruiting on the D line was good this spring? This move will help, IMHO :)

Found out the QB coach on this years Mount union football team will be no other then Larry Kehres.     He has been working with the Qb"s during spring football.  He's baccccckkkkk, and that is great NEWS.

Though I never posted it my prediction is that within 5 years (and this was starting last year) that Larry Kehres would be back to coaching the team again.

Wow. There's a whole lot inside that prediction, MJ.  Care to elaborate?

Just a feeling I have that Larry Kehres really was the X factor on that team and while they will stay really good they won't be as great as they were. Then again I could be completely wrong too but it's just a hunch with nothing to back it up.

Other not so obvious feelings by the Master:
1.  Fire feels hot
2.  Ice feels cold
3.  Water feels wet

Haha, I dig it. +k

What I meant more is I don't think Vince Kehres has the x factor. If they can prove me wrong kudos to Mount, even if he doesn't they'll still be a dangerous team.

I'm sitting here watching the Auburn/FSU title game rerun because I'm that desperate for some college football.  A couple thoughts on our kind of football:

I perused the composite schedule for the first time.  Not much in the way of marquee OOC openers for anyone.  JCU and Mount have a couple PAC teams not named W&J or TMC.  Berg has Alma at home.  BW has Bluffton.  The best opponent is SJF (hosts Ott) followed by WashU (ONU).  Ott is definitely an underdog and depending on what WashU has back the Polar Bears could be too.

We were so fortunate with the way the conference schedule fell last year with all the Berg/JCU/Mount games back loaded. Not so lucky in 2014. Berg and JCU square off week 3 in the first week of OAC games. Somebody's back is going to be against the wall VERY early on.  And with both teams coming off a bye that should be an intense game.

Mount doesn't see either of the Big Two until 10/18 when they host Berg in week 7.  And they get both at home.

Whatever he does I'm glad for him to be back.
Retiring completely while still having such passion is a shame.

LK never stopped coaching, but you can bet on he will never interfere with Vince being head coach I know that for a fact.

My son's graduation party turned into a D3 love-fest ...

- One MUC Grad  (me!)
- One Adrian attendee (Akron U. grad)
- Two SJF alums (including my sister-in-law)
- And two Wesleyan students, including one Fballer.

The Wesleyan playa had bad juju re: Mount Union ... D1 transfers (too high) and roster size (too low).

But great to see so many small-ballers in one place!

Too much information!   Don't ask.   Don't tell.

If LK is truly back on the staff and coaching the QB's, I see that as good news for the team.  But I have to wonder, can Vince ever stand on his own merit as long as LK is in the picture?

William "Bill" Dessecker, former assistant football coach and associate professor at Mt. Union passed away on June 8, at the age of 76.  Rest in peace, coach.

Greetings All,

I am a new web site member and the dad of a new Purple Raider in the fall. This is a great web site and I look forward to many spirited posts in the future! The football coaches were great during the recruiting process and I believe we have a great group of young men coming in to play in the fall.

No.

He'll certainly never get recognition of "doing it on his own". But if the goal is the success of the program, not the legacy of the current head coach, then it doesn't matter. You bring in the best people for the job...

Until LK has completely retired from Mount and isn't the athletic director anymore, VK won't be looked at by most people as being on his own anyway.   Regardless of how much LK is involved or not.   Might as well as get as much help as the old man is willing to give.   Would be dumb to not take advantage of the master's knowledge.

Welcome!  I suggest you introduce yourself on the OAC thread, as newly-started threads rarely seem to draw much conversation.  Most of the chatter happens on the conference threads.  Good luck to your son this fall!

As long as you don't think Mount and Whitewater belong in DII, then you should fit right in the OAC (and WIAC) thread.  ;D
