As someone who sat through the Wesley game I can tell you I agree that the defense felt just plain bad those last 3 games.  I've never experienced that feeling before where I felt like Burke HAD to put a TD up because Wesley was throwing at will and the only way to win was going to be scoring ourself.

My glass half full outlook going into this year is that it turned out the core of the D was that soph class. They took some lumps, but hopefully they learned and grew from it.  In addition it was VK's first go round as HC. I'm sure that impacted how he interacted with his D.  He's already made one big change moving Chris Kappas to DC.

Bottom line is they have to get much better D line play.  That was a pedestrian D line last year and that is not Mount-like.

I know they were focused on improving the d-line because when VK greeted my son during a January visit, he said to him: "Now, you are going to play d-line, right?" This was after seeing his highlight videos (Hudl, NCSA and personal footage I shot last season during games we uploaded to YouTube).

I feel like I need an intervention.  It's early July and I watched probably 20 different incoming freshmen highlight videos in the last couple of days.

First step is admitting you need help. Sadly you admitted it in a place where you are more likely to be cheered on than assisted in breaking your addiction...

Oh, this is a room full of enablers!  No denying that.

True, but even I can't justify watching incoming freshman h.s. highlight videos. I love football, but not that much...

Given that 95% of freshman have no chance to play first year, it is really a waste of time to watch the highlight videos. I suggest you pick up golf, fishing or some other hobby to get you through Summer months.

Funny to me how the perception of this changes.

I'm largely generalizing here, but many HS recruits and their parents think that they're coming to camp with a chance to earn a starting job.

Alumnae and parents typically understand what you said: at most programs, a large percentage of freshman will not see any more than some mop-up action.  95 is on the high side, but definitely 80+ percent.

Because I'm equally bored in the offseason, I counted the number of freshman to see truly "meaningful" action (either started at least one game or played >10 snaps in multiple games) during my career.  I thought of 6/47 my freshman year, 3/36 my sophomore year, 3 my junior year, and 4 my senior year (don't recall the exact # of freshman the last two years, but it would've been about 40 each).  That includes some guys that were strictly special teamers, too, but I figure if you got into every game on special teams throughout the season, that constitutes "meaningful" action.

I was small but made up for it by being slow...

There will likely only end up being a couple freshmen that play much and since there are probably 200 coming in the odds are definitely stacked against me stumbling onto anyone who will actually play.

That being said, I would rather do anything...golf, fish, mow the lawn, etc. than watch those videos.  Unfortunately, I was stuck in the office "just in case" and had nothing to do all day both days for the most part.

Have you considered a new job/career ?

While watching the videos may not have been totally enthralling, did you find out anything about any of the players you watched and what did you notice?

The biggest thing I noticed was that the kids were from all over not just OH and FL.  There were kids from places you don't see pop up a lot on the roster like TN, NV, MD, CT and Long Island.

^ Correct.  On-line registration opens on Monday, August 4th.   First class is Tuesday, August 26th.

$75 per OAC attendee.  $100 for non-conference lessons.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

While I was not watching highlight videos, I have seen guys from TX, CA, AZ, MI, IN, PA, WI and others as well. From gleaning information off of the Internet, there are at least 51 recruits I know of now. The talent seems to be spread across the board: fast RBs and WRs, quick DBs with hops, big, strong linemen, LBs who can rival linemen with size but have speed. I think the coaches did a good job recruiting this year.
