Has anyone seen a full list of the Mount Union recruits for 2014, I heard there was close to 70.

I made a list of my own and I currently know of 52 recruits. Who or what organization said 70? I would like to know who they are if they have at least 18 more.

Probably won't see anything official for at least another month.  Once the kids arrive on campus the official freshmen roster comes not long after.

And only 70??  What was VK vacationing all summer?  Haha.

The football team reports August 12th. We will be dropping my son off on Monday the 11th. It will be interesting to see exactly how many recruits there actually are.

I took a look at each of the lineman and I see multiple big men with good speed (5.0 or less). At the DT/NT positions, I see 25 OL or DL guys. Based on the positions in the list above, there are at least 5 guys at 245 of larger, 3 at 265 or larger. There are 6 squatting more than 500 lbs. and more than 5 benching over 300 lbs.. While it may take some time to learn the system, VK has the kids to build a strong d-line when you combine the freshman with the existing upper classmen. By the way, when I combined the list above with the list I made, Mount Union has 102 incoming freshman. Of note, Dakarai Johnson of Euclid, OH is not on the list above but, based on what I saw online, he is a Mount Union commit. He is most likely OL. My list took a little web surfing plus using the NCSA web site.

"Location of school is not as important, but having the chance to receive a great education and earning a spot on a football team are. I want to be able to compete at the highest possible level every single day. I have committed myself to playing Quarterback and will commit myself to excellence anywhere I go." Here is what the young man from Rhinelander used to determine where he waned to be. It also is about having the best fit as a school. If he wants the small school environment, I think it was an easy choice for him. As of January 2014, UW-W had 11,629 and MU had 2231 (www.colleges.findthe best.com).

I like his focus and attitude. Seems like a good, young man from Wisconsin who will be going places.

I would put precisely zero stock in the height, weight, 40-yard dash, bench, and squat numbers you see listed.

I was officially listed at 6-1 and 245 in my high school program as a senior, then listed at 6-1 and 260 for the duration of my college career.

In real life: I am 5-11 and weighed 240-something as a freshman, 260 as a sophomore, 235 as a junior, and 240 as a senior (furthermore, I was a significantly better player as a 235-pound junior than I was at 260).

Translation: yes, generally, it's nice to see big bodies coming in to fill out the lines, but projecting the success of the individual players based on size is a bit dicey.  It's possible some of those 245 pounders might be better than the 265 pounders, or that some of the "265 pounders" actually weigh 245 but had a coach that was a bit generous in his program listings.

Re: the lifting numbers, it's pretty well-known that they can vary quite widely depending on how strictly coaches enforce good squatting depth.  Half-squatting 500 pounds is much less translatable to football than a full-depth squat with 405 pounds.  Bench-pressing, likewise, is prone to bouncing, all manner of cheating and inflation for the sake of sounding impressive.  I love lifting weights and it's undoubtedly an essential part of football training, but in projecting college success, I really couldn't care less what a high-school kid has supposedly lifted for 1 rep (or how many times he benched 185/225 at a combine somewhere).
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

I have an additional kicker on my list.  I separated my list by position and the number of QBs and WRs stand out to me.
I also agree with ExTartanPlayer since I found the heights of players miraculously grew from their senior roster to their Hudl profile.

Would anyone fill me in on the progress of the construction of Heidelberg's new stadium. If this has been covered a lot already or is a sore subject I apologize in advance. It has seemed in the past it has taken a lot of time before it finally go going and the weather over the winter or recently for that matter hasn't helped. Will it be ready for the season? Planning on visiting for the Ohio Northern game so hope it is ready to go.

The number of QBs surprised me too but it's probably because I'm in my 30's and these aren't old I formation QBs like when I was in HS.  Someone with a kid in HS like bceagle might know this, but it would be my guess that with so many teams running spread/read option that HS coaches may put their best athlete at QB these days.  They want Taurice Scott not Rob Adamson.

Mount Union has always been known to recruit QBs and then move them to other positions (DBs, WRs, LBs and sometimes TE/DE if they are big enough).  A lot of schools do this due to the thought that if a kid plays QB, he has a high Football IQ and if athletic enough, then can excel elsewhere on the field.
