One could argue (and be right in my opinion) that Mount's defense wasn't nearly good enough last year to win the OAC either.  Except for the magic of Burke and Company it wouldn't have been.

I agree with the good doctor.  I expect Mount to be better on both sides of the ball this season.   The question remains to see whether they're good enough along the line of scrimmage to be championship quality, or just Top 5 like last year.

I expect the recruiting was effective and some of the freshman will have an affect on the Varsity. At minimum, they will push the Upperclassmen to excel at higher levels throughout the year, in the playoffs and in the championship game.

The recruiting is ALWAYS effective at UMU.. I think they've had a couple decent seasons in the past 20 years as a result of the effective recruiting.

HScoach,

Any idea when a 2-deep depth chart will be out, even preliminary? Curious who is K. Burke's back-up (Scott ?), then what the WR slot are, Namdar, Scott?

Someone please correct me if it's not the case, but I don't recall in past years seeing a 2 deep until the official preview/game notes for the first game gets posted.

I would think heading into camp it was Scott and Peyakov as the 2nd and 3rd QB's still.  Quite a luxury to have all 3 QB's from your playoff roster back again.  If Peyakov has developed perhaps Dartt gains enough confidence in him to feel safe having Scott play some WR.  Selfishly I'd love to see it because Taurice is fun to watch.

My guess would be Namdar would be on the outside more than in the slot.  That's where he was during the W&J scrimmage last year (the only reference point for those of us who haven't seen a practice this yr).  Wouldn't Meacham be the main slot guy?  I can't recall if Gainer played in the slot last year too?  They should never be tired since they can rotate about 8 different WR's who have all played!

Mount posted a quick (4 min) video from practice with a mic'd up Burke.  Kill a couple minutes watching Burke toss passes and Mitchell run the ball if you're bored.

While watching the video, several times Number 12 was working with the 1st string & Burke. According to the roster it was J.J. Christy, don't know if this means anything.

I think Christy is still a backup QB.  He probably just happened to be working in with Burke.

Speaking of backup QB's, I did spot Taurice Scott in the video.  He was not wearing a red jersey at that moment FWIW.

Dr. Acula,

With Meacham, Wilkinson, Namdar, Clark, where does Scott get that PT if at WR? There are probably others in the mix as well.

Good question, 68.  If Scott plays any at WR I wouldn't think it'd be in the same type of role as any of those guys.  Namdar/Meacham/Wilkinson are true WR.  Clark is a true TE.  I'd think Scott's role would be more like the H back position Urban Meyer uses Dontre Wilson in.  Take an athlete and get him the ball in space quickly on short stuff.  I would be shocked if someone who has been playing QB would be polished enough at route running to play a true WR this quickly.  Of course I guess CS3 did something similar so who knows.  Thankfully Dartt gets to figure out how to spread the ball between all those guys.  We just get to watch it on Saturdays!

p.s. I saw on the E8 board that WR Mike Collichio left Mount and is now playing at SJF.  Hopefully Mike thrives with the Cards (unless it's a playoff game in Alliance, of course).

don't forget Brian Gainer, he would have had a 1,000 yd soph season without the injury.

Jasper was released by the Bengals today in their first round of cuts.  Hopefully he'll catch on with another squad, the increase to 10 man practice squads should be helpful.

FYI: I was speaking to my son today. He mentioned he was challenged by another freshman football player to walk up to a group of girls (7,  I think), and get at least  three phone numbers. If he did, he would get a milkshake from him. He walked up to the group of girls, engaged them in talk about whatever and walked away with three phone numbers. This is how he did it: he was straight upfront with them about the bet and explained what was going on. When you challenge my son, he can get an attitude of "Tell me I won't". This being said he has a good head on his shoulders and believes in being honest with people. You add to it he is not a bad looking kid and he likes to be friends with lots of people. I can understand how he won the bet.

It means everything. In the one frame Burke was snapping the ball to JJ. Mark my words....Burke will play center this year! ;D While the video was  cool...I think 2 are better.

the second Mount Union camp video is out, this time following Gonell on defense.  Taurice Scott looks to be returning punts at one point in the video.
