Onward on, John Carroll

I am hearing rumors that Mark Myers broke his hand.  Confirmation anyone?  This would definitely temper the enthusiasm in the JCU camp following last year's breakout season. I was looking forward to him leading the returning the letterman, the rising underclassmen and a nice transfer in Pitt TE Brendan Carozzoni.

Really?....if so that's a major bummer.  I, also, was looking to see if JCU would build on last year's momentum.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

If I supported JCU, BW, Berg, ONU, I would truly hate us Raiders and our attitudes.  That being said:  GO RAIDERS, HAVE A GREAT YEAR.  I'LL SEE YOU IN THE PRESSBOX.

It is not like you are writing off the rest of the league after a couple of good seasons . . . .you have dominated the ENTIRE league for TWENTY-FIVE years.  While there is a fine line between arrogance and confidence/tradition/swagger, Mount fans are by and large very classy.  In fact, I am most annoyed not when they speak with confidence but, rather, when Mount fans poor-mouth and act as if they will not be very good when, in fact, they will be 3 times better than every other team in the league.

Sucks to hear about Myers, having the 'Berg game so early might put JCU behind the 8-ball for the postseason.

Again, I am not sure if this is true or not.  I am looking for confirmation but hopeful this a false rumor.

Hope this isn't true.

I hope Myers is fine but even if he did get hurt,he'll play in the Mount Union game. If he can walk ,he will want to suit up one last time against the Purple Raiders.

If he's really hurt and will be out for the season, he can apply for a medical redshirt.

Dr. Acula

It's finally here!  A little more than 24 hours to kick off.  Quick thoughts for opening weekend...

There are some individual match ups that should be interesting such as WR Eric Blinn (1300 yds) against the corners, but overall this doesn't appear on paper to be much of a test in WV.  I'm certainly not saying Bethany is bad.  I'm just stating the obvious...this is not Franklin with Jonny West at QB.

The Bison gave up over 31 points and 437 yds of offense per game last year.  Those are not confidence inspiring marks with Burke rolling into town with all of his weapons back from last year.  The Bison D may be better than 2013, but so too could the Raider O.  As I mentioned, the O line I saw at W&J this year was much better than what we saw to start last year.

Offensively Bethany is replacing a 4 year starter at QB and features a running game that didn't have anyone average more than 38 yards per game.  Making your first start at QB against Mount could be interesting, but I've learned to not take anything for granted after the "Callahan Incident" last year.  Still, I fully expect the D to play well tomorrow.  How well?  That'll be the interesting part to watch.  How aggressive is Kappas going to be dialing up pressure?  Can the front 4 get pressure consistently?

It looks like there's video for the game.  Stream the Wabash/HSC game on one TV and the Mount/Bethany game on another?  Awesome D3 Saturday!

Safe travels to anyone making the drive to WV.  And good luck to all the OAC squads opening tomorrow.  Start things off right with a W.

Good news, Dr. Acula regarding the streaming video. Unfortunately, I have to work tomorrow. I will check out what I can tomorrow evening. If I can, I will watch the video after the fact, if available, and make comments. Good luck to VJ, Kevin Burke and the boys!!

Tough start to the year with a couple of potential all-americans out for the season in Myers at JC and the UWW OL, if the rumors are true about Myers. I have heard he hit his hand on a helmet in practice and left with a cast, fwiw.
