Paul Hoernemann (May 18, 1916 – February 28, 1965) was a head football coach at Heidelberg College, now Heidelberg University. Hoernemann arrived at Heidelberg from New Philadelphia High School where he had a 24–3 record. From 1946 to 1959, he had a 102–18–4 record. He won five Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) titles during this time. After the 1959 season, Hoernemann became a vice president at Heidelberg. He held this position until his death in 1965. In 1966, the new dining hall at Heidelberg was named the Hoernemann Refectory. He was inducted into the Ohio High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.  The new stadium is named after him.  His nickname was "the Fox".

Great info..........I was (-5) years old when Paul Hoernemann died. So as I said "I can't remember Berg ever winning" ;D On the Dennis Bridges side of the equation: A) I have learned he was at Illinois Weslyan (not OAC) and B) he coached basketball. Since this is the OAC football board I agree with K&Js Dad. Moving on...

At least the good news is that after the snoozers tomorrow we get some good stuff to talk about next week with ONU/BW and Berg/JCU.  Otherwise, after seeing the outcome of the Musky/Waynesburg game last week, we'd probably be left to debate whether Mount can match their 2012 stats from the Musky game by halftime this year.

Also, saw on Twitter that ESPN requested video on Burke so he may be on Game Day tomorrow for those interested.

ONU/BW is not a snoozer? Agree to disagree.  How about ONU having to go @Berg, JCU, Mount in weeks 3-5? Yikes.  I'd set the O/U at 150 points given up for the polar bears

Right!  Cap had to live that nightmare last year - @JCU, @Berg, and Mount in three consecutive weeks.  That was a nice initiation to the OAC for Coach Candeto & Co.

Is this the OAC Football Board???

What is all this Basketball talk and pissing match between Sager and Ypsi?

Take it somewhere else please.

It was over and done with before you posted this.

Can someone give me the lowdown on just how good Heidelberg is? Tomorrow I'm going to be traveling to Alma to broadcast the North Park @ Alma game, and I'm trying to get a read on last week's 72-7 'berg massacre of the Scots. Is the 'berg just that good, or is Alma simply so horrifically bad that even a mediocre team can horsewhip the Scots like that?

Berg is loaded on offense.   Very good QB, some weapons at WR and possibly the best TB in the nation running behind a really solid O-line.   They're going to score points in bunches.   On anyone.   The question is their defense which is pretty average.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Its the early part of the season and games aren't too big = Berg is pretty good.  Give em a month or so, maybe a week this year, and we'll see the same ol 'Berg

It's Friday night, so time again to remind everyone to get their OAC Pick-Em selections in.

You don't want to be running to me Saturday afternoon claiming that you didn't have a car and couldn't attend away games.

So don't be that guy ... get those picks in!   ;)
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

+K for the next week!!

Professor Sager mocked me for that claim, but since IWU won 75%+ of the games I did see I thought it was perfectly reasonable that I didn't realize they had overall losing records those years.  I was a college student - who reads newspapers?

I was a professor; can we be sure that "Professor" Sager made it out of 7th grade? ;D

Can someone tell me why we are talking about this guy?

We're talking about the Big Lebowski?  ??? Personally I liked Lloyd Bridges ("Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines.") more than Jeff but I can see the youngers appeal.  ;D

Thanks for the heads-up. Just saw Kevin on Gameday. They called him "Paul Bunyan" cause he plays so much bigger than his size. Had footage from last years Snow Bowl and some highlights from Bethany game. +k for you!!

Glad you got to see it, desertraider.

For any Stark County folks...I saw in the paper that Alliance had a 9th grader rush for 118 yds and 2 scores last night.  EJ Lilly 2.0??  If Alliance could ever get consistent depth around the handful of really good players they always seem to have...
