Logan and Nemeth have both lost fumbles today.

Sloppy.  Another TD fumbled away as Nemeth gets popped and fumbles running into the end zone.  Oh, and they also set up Berg's TD with a punt snap going through Ruhnke's hands and hitting him in the facemask for another fumble.  Did I mention they also have 53 yards in penalties in the 2nd quarter already?  Thankfully only fumbles or their own penalties can stop them from scoring.

This game is already over if Mount RB's could hang onto the ball.  Ugh.

Start the 2nd half w a penalty on the kickoff. Kill another good drive w a fumble.  Here we go again.

Germany Woods gets a touchdown against his old team. I have to give credit to Germany for never giving up. He came to Mount Union with much promise and sat out a year as required.

Ugly game but a win is a win. I hate to do the "if this.." thing but the reality is that absent 2 Mount fumbles the score is 72-17. My point is simply that Mount played sloppy and dominated Berg. However - Mees threw for 300+ AND the Dline got a ton of pressure. The secondary, IMHO, needs to step up a bit. They got a nice pick in the endzone which was huge but Mees had success all day. I can't say that Meyers will do the same cause Mees has wheels which helped him out several times. Here is what I am taking away from this game:
1. Mount can score 50+ on just about anybody.
2. The D is MUCH better this year, especially D-line.
3. Namdar needs to stop looking downfield before he secures the ball (not everything is a positive).
4. Mount needs to secure the ball better (4 fumbles!) as the weather will become a factor in the coming weeks.
5. The JCU game looks to be Mounts first test this season. Sorry but neither Berg nor the Polar Bears proved to be a test...or is Mount that good?
6. The WRMU crew should have found out that it is pronounced "Guh-lardee" by now. Come on guys it is Week 6! I am sending an email to the station.
7. The live video was cool - but I was watching the free 90second preview and refreshing every 10 minutes or so. I am going to watch the replay tonight.

Happy trails y'all and as always.....Roll Raiders~Roll!!

Spurrier

Why the defense ain't werkin'?

That was about as disappointing of a 700+ yard/40 point win as you'll ever see.  Mount did everything they could to keep Berg around.  The amount of unforced errors was staggering, but at least it will provide some coachable lessons.  Fumbles will happen but today's were not caused by anything but poor ball security and a national title contender can not have personal fouls extending opponent's drives on 3rd and long

Will somebody please teach Jones to turn his head around and look for the ball in the air

Since we had all early games, the results of Week # 7 of the OAC Pick-Em are already posted.

theaprof made the maximum use of the extra time I gave him to get his picks in [no games had started] to collect 13 of the 15 points, only missing the OTT-MUS game.

His co-leader jaypeter petered out a bit, leaving theaprof clear of the field by 5.  But the fat lady in the iron bra is not yet warming up.

Week # 8 spreads will be out Monday night.

Hmm.  I was able to watch the first half.  Interesting to finally see 2014 Mt compared to 2013 Stagg Bowl Mt.

I know you guys are Mt fans and as such, it's normal to post how Mt made lots of mistakes and let Berg hang around.
I saw some other aspects though- as in Berg gave Mt many gifts too.  Second series on 3rd and short and QB and RB both go different directions?
#11 on Berg Dropped 2 touchdown passes.
On Burke's near fumble- of course I didn't have a better view than anyone else, but my first impression was fumble.
I agree ball security is important and helps prevent fumbles, but to say that Berg's hits didn't cause any of them is a bit purple sighted.  Helmets on the ball often cause fumbles.

Mt's D Line looked dominant against Berg.

IMO, Mt desparately needs to play a team that has speed on D in order to get a feel for where the program really is compared to last year.

So desertraider ends up being essentially the best predictor of today's score.  Looks like Mount Union has it made again, although what do any of you think about the JC/Mount Union final as far as early thoughts/predictions at this point?

I would say Mount was text book "letting them hang around" no matter the color of your glasses.  Up 14-0 and driving to make it 21-0, but instead fumbling inside the 10.  Mount then caused a quick 3 and out that was negated by a PF and Berg drives down for a FG.  21-0 became 14-3 due to Mount mistakes. Next drive Mount stalls just inside Berg territory and the snap goes through the punter's hands and Berg takes over in Mount territory and scores a TD, after dropping a sure TD, making it 14-10 and Berg now has confidence instead of being demoralized.

Fast foward a little, another chance for Mount to take out the Student Princes.  It's 27-10 late in the 2nd quarter, Mount has just intercepted the ball and is inside Berg territory.  The RB breaks free and looks take it to the house but the ball is knocked free as he gets into the endzone.  Ball is recovered by Berg for a touchback. Another seven points off of the board.

Mount was the reason Mount was stopped at all today.  Mount only had three fourth downs in the first three quarters, converting two (one for TD) and one smacked the punter in the facemask.  To quote one of the reporters covering the game, it was the "most lopsided 27-10 first half" he'd ever covered.

Did Cartel Brooks get injured? Only had 7 carries.

This is what I was referring to in my pre-game post about the secondary. Saw alot of this last year.

I am concerned about the JCU game. However - HCAlum in the NCAC board stated that 'JCU is the best team in Ohio and has far greater talent than Mount' (if I knew how to quote it in here I would). I am not in agreement. I think JCU has the best former D1 QB in the OAC with talent around him - I think Mount has the best QB in the country with a great team around him (I am not slamming JCU - but he is a former D1 QB). I think this Mount D will stop the run and will force Myers to move. I don't know how mobile he is or how accurate he is on the run. I do know he has an ICBM for an arm and if the heads don't get turned on coverage it will be a close game. Mount has been 'weak' on the big play (granted Berg dropped the deep ball today) and Myers could probably hit the middle of the Streaks field from Alliance. So I look for JC to go deep if they have enough time. It will be a great game but I think Mount is too deep.
