Any thoughts about the all black uniforms? Was it to represent doom and gloom? :)

I think I'm in the minority, but I like the all black unis.  I much prefer all black over all purple.  All purple is my least favorite unless it's a grainy highlight of Ballard covered in mud.  All white on the road is my favorite.  Classic.

Also, I noticed JCU had the cross logo on the back of the helmets and the hip.  Is that new?  I like it.

Forgot to mention...how about that catch by Tim Kennedy?!  Great throw and outstanding hands to haul that in, especially in a huge situation for a kid who hasn't played a ton with the starters.  Big time play.  What an embarrassment of riches at WR.

Missed it, video stream went out the play before.  :(

It's always good to beat John Carroll, especially since I haven't gotten over the pasting they gave us in 1989 and the tie in 1991. We still owe them as far as I'm concerned. What bothers me is they handled us at the line of scrimmage,on offense and defense, and this does not bode well for us if we again face the cheese eaters,or a heavy line team. JCU could win it all this year, they really could. Congratulations to this group of seniors. They were undefeated in OAC play, undefeated at home and undefeated away in the regular season. Four OAC Championships. Wow.

Bummer ... MUC and JCU in the same quarter of the bracket.

Was hoping [for the possibility] to see them again a round later.

No excuse for JCU to not be focused this time around.   Their redemption trip back to Mount only requires two wins.   At Wheaton will be tough, but I don't get the sense that this is one of Wheaton's better teams.   2 winnable games ahead of JCU and then The Re-match.

HSCoach,

Agree, but JCU will have their hands full at Wheaton away. The Raiders have an easier first two games.

I do not like the all black unis. Sorry - but my fav is the all purple (Fear the Purple!), afterall they are "The Purple Raiders". My second fav is the black jersey (the older black jersey of Kmic and the like) with the Purple pants. On the road - I say wear all Purple anyway!

I do not like the draw. I was hoping to see Mount/JCU in the semis. However - Mount has a pretty doable path to the quarters. JCU will have to focus. They did not last year and got beat by a team they should have hammered (IMHO). We shall see. Oh and to the guy at Aldi today wearing his JCU sweatshirt who went out of his way to cut up the line and say "You guys stole one yesterday. I lost all respect for Mount Union after that." I am thinking of a phrase that rhymes with "Miss my Bass". Whatever could it be? Mount didn't make the role - didn't enforce the rule - but Mount knew about the rule. Sour grapes.

I see that Mount Union will play Adrian College. My son has a friend on that team and they did heavily recruit him. He is looking forward to the match up as, I am sure, are all the rest of the Purple Raiders!!

Other than "Yo, Adrian" - I don't know much about Adrian. Took a look at some stats though, so here goes. The Adrian D gives up an average of 150pass and 144 rushing a game. I don't know much about their competition though - so not sure what that means other than Mount comes in averging 292 passing and 304 rushing. The Adrian QB (Tenney) is completing 46% with 13TDs and 12INTs. Their Oline is huge - averages 6'2" and 301 - they gave up less than a sack a game, but gave 5 to Hope and Kalamazoo in back-to-back weeks.

Given the low completion percentage and high number of INTs - I really like Mounts D in this one. Adrian has also fumbled alot. They had 23 for the season, only lost 9 - but thats 2.3 fumbles a game and 1 pick a game. If they can't secure the ball and give Mount a short field this will be over before the buses park. I know Mount has had some fumble issues as well - but I think they only have 12 for the year (not sure how many they lost but I think it was 4) and 4 INTs. Oh well. Brackets just came out today so plenty of time to discuss this as the week progresses.

monkeystomp.  This game will be ugly.  The OL being huge won't match up with Mount's speed on defense.  Then you factor in the first trip to Mount for these kids -- everything needs to go their way in the first Quarter and it won't.  Not with that turnover margin.

This is a huge step up in competition for this Adrian team.

Seconded.  Adrian is going to have trouble moving the ball and Mount is going to score a ton.  This one is over by half Saturday.

Craft_Beermeister

I went to the Mount JCU game Saturday and I was unable to sign in to board during the game and spent too much time yesterday consumed with Browns game to sign in therefore I share my observations a bit late.

1.  It was a great game and too bad only one team could win because they both fought hard.

2.  Meyers was way of his game early over throwing an open receiver on the first series and not seeming to adjust very well to the wind which he was throwing with during the first quarter.

3.  Mount union didn't have much of a rush but when they did Meyers rushed his throws a bit.

4.  The first quarter interception and return for touchdown by Tre Jones resulted in a violent collision at the goal line with JCU wider receiver Hayes Chrispin who raced all the way from across the field.  The collision happened right in front of us and both players were a bit shaken up with Chrispin #88 not making it back into the game.  For me that collision set the tone of the game.

5.  Mount Union got the early lead and seemed to get very conservative after that which probably works best when their offensive line can easily handle the opponents defense line which wasn't the case Saturday.  Mount's offense moved the ball much more effectively when they had a sense of urgency.

6.  I think it was Dr. Acula that reported last week that Mount Union's center had a bad habit in the past of snapping the ball high for the shotgun.  That bad habit continued in the game with maybe close to half the snaps being high which seemed to impact Burke's rhythm and mess with his ability to quickly read the JCU defense.

7.  With a 24 to 7 lead at the start of the 3rd quarter Mount seemed content to play conservatively on both sides of the ball with neither team doing more than getting a few first downs before punting which ran the clock down to about the 5 minute mark until Mitchell fumbled after making a first down.  Before that play surprisingly the packed stadium seemed to be relatively quite with both set of fans.  However the fans on both teams sure made up for the generation of noise during the later parts of the 4th quarter which had the volume level of the Mount Union MHB playoff game two years ago when the Raiders overcome 5 turnovers.

8. I must admit I was very surprised that when JCU took their last time out with 1:16 left in the game I was saying JCU might let Mount score here to have more time left on the clock.  When Mount called time out immediately after JCU did I thought that Mount Union was onto the possibility and for sure told their runner that if that is the case take a need just short of the goal line.

Their prep work will focus on playing their absolute best.  Much like Oregon's prep work.

Sorry dude -- but if Adrian even crosses midfield in the 1st half, it will be from a kick return (one of many).

If I were planning to attend a Mount Union playoff game this year (which I'm not because of the 7 month old at home), it wouldn't be this one.
