re:  Mark Myers

Whats really scary to me, is there are men on this page who have "sources" with information about certain players going to bars or whatever the youngfolk do now in college.

Can't we let these young men be young men and not have their personal lives gossiped about on here like the D1 guys do??

I'm glad there wasn't D3boards.com for when I was in college -- I can assure you the stories would've been front page news around here.

I agree.  There's only one spoilsport here, though, and we all know that he's a ****-stirrer who hides behind this "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH" persona.  Nobody else has done this (that I've seen, anyway).
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Any word of Brandon Williams' health?  He got his leg twisted pretty good on that kick return.  He is still listed on the 2 deep this week FWIW.

My apologies for even entering the banter regarding Mark. But he has always been a respectable young man, and I was very factually informed on his departure from Pitt, I did not mean to stir anything unnecessary up, as I would much rather talk about his arm than his departure from Pitt.

Having said that. If JCU gets the monkey off their back and wins their first round match-up, dispatching of Centre, I think we are all but certain for a quarterfinal rematch to SpikeGate

Wheaton may not have a resume full of blowouts, but beating an undefeated CCIW team on the road is far from certain.  This isn't Swider's first rodeo.

Understood. I have been watching D3 football since the 1980's now, and granted I have not had the opportunity to watch Wheaton play, but John Carroll is a very real contender to get to the title game this year. They have one of the most talented offenses I have seen in a long time. But you are absolutely right, that does not mean a hill of beans if they don't win.

With the discussion of JCU and its chances to go far in the playoffs, are we forgetting that Mount Union is the team to beat in the region
and the Raiders lead all of D3 in offense and defense! Wheaton has always had a solid team in the playoffs, so they will be tough at home, IMHO

I think it's great to have another OAC team to talk about.  And I agree that JCU is good enough to get to Salem.  In the second half last Saturday Mount did not look like the nation's best offense or defense.  They could not run the ball, and they could not stop JCU, only the clock, and an incomprehensible rule, did that.  I believe in Mount Union and I think they will win the rematch, if there is one.  But let's be happy there are two OAC teams in the playoffs that have the potential to get to Salem.  It's too bad they will meet so early.  That is if Wheaton doesn't play the spoiler.

Thanks for bringing everyone foolish enough to talk about one of the other nine OAC schools back to the reality that this message board exists to talk about all things purple and only all things purple.

It is okay that folks focus on something other than your team since everyone is of the opinion that their game Saturday will resemble a walk-thru.  This is also an opportunity to celebrate being a conference with two representatives in a 32 team field.   You'll have the board back to yourselves soon enough.

I agree on all counts - except the imcomprehensible rule. Don't want to dive back into that but I can see the logic even though it really sucks...especially for JCU. I mean if it had gone the other way (i.e. Mount spiked, etc.) I am sure we Mounties would be ticked as well. Regardless, I hope JCU is not looking forward to the Mount rematch that they forget about Wheaton. In addition - don't be looking at Wheaton and forget about Centre. Centre could give a decent game, I don't think they have a realistic chance - but then again I didn't think SJF did last year either. On the Wheaton front - it was stated before "this isn't Swiders first rodeo". He will have Wheaton prepped and ready and they will be in it to the end (IMHO).

Weather may play a factor in Saturday's game in U Heights. Looks like high 40s with a possible rain/snow mix. If that's the case, it makes it a tougher go for that high powered passing game to get off the ground.

However, I think we can all agree JCU's run game is miles better than last year, and if the D plays like they did in the second half against Mount, JCU should come out the victors.

My most sincere apologies for not mentioning Mount Union at all in this post, Raider 68.

Also, for those with Time Warner who are not attending another game or would like to set the DVR, the Centre vs JCU game will be carried live on channel 311/1311(HD).

Just checked and it's on 1311 in Columbus too.  Very cool.  Thanks for the heads up.  +k

Last year's JCU team looked like a world-beater through nine weeks and a very tough one after a solid one-score loss to Mount.

And they went out in the first round.

I think JCU has a favorable playoff draw and could well win a few games.  I hope they do.  But it's hardly a granted.

Also, a point of interest: I think how JCU does is crucial for the perception of OAC conference strength.  In leagues like the OAC and WIAC, much of their respect is, of course, derived from the powerful Purple at the top; and for many years the OAC could point to 1) strong performances from league runners-up and 2) the fact that Mount often had its toughest test from a league opponent rather than a playoff opponent.  That has not been the case for several years now.  If JCU bombs in the first round, we'll now be looking at several years running when the OAC runner-up made the playoffs and fell short of the previous expectation from the early-00's (which was often "win the first two or three games until you run into Mount again").
