Ok - All region Kicker stuff aside - it is Wesley week. I have one concern with Wesley (ok I have a few, but one HUGE concern):

Steve Koudossou
Guy torched the D last year for 273 and 2 TDs. I know the D is better - but this kid is a beast. Do you think Mount puts Tre Jones on him (he has shut down just about everyone else), or do they not adjust for him and just play it as normal? Does Jones have the speed to match Koudossou? Thoughts?
Did Jones guard him last year? I knew he picked off Callahan twice last year but wasn't there some issues with him covering receivers last year? I'm sure he has improved, or was it someone else?

To answer your question, I think if Mount devotes extra resources to Koudossou, Wesley is going to hit Shade, Bundy, Wiggs, and Kyle George (TE) and they have big play capability as well. Those 3 receivers are perhaps the fastest in D3 aside from Steve. IMO Mount Union will have to do a little more on D than shut down Koudossou to stop the offense.

Last week on the WIAC Board I read that Wartburg was the Fastest team in D3...  Are you saying Wesley is FASTER:o  ;)

To be fair it was 2 weeks ago and the post about Wartburg's speed was written by a Wheaton fan who saw them online and is known for posting interesting opinions.

Life comes full circle coach.  Last time they missed a semi-final she was in diapers.  Mount will eventually miss another semi-final and you'll probably  be in diapers for that one.

Hahaha.  Good stuff, RC.  +k

He probably only warrants single coverage then. :)

Welcome to the club HS Coach...eight years ago, my daughter scheduled a wedding on Saturday after Thanksgiving and I missed the first Mount Union playoff game ever.  If this is number 100, I have been to 97 of 99, the other being last Saturday, as I could not resist a free four day pass to golf near Seabrooke Island, SC...I did listen to the game via WRMU on ear buds and was not paying attention when I teed up four feet from an evil staring gator.  When I glanced over and saw the reptile, my partners said I screamed "like a little girl"..no doubt.
I'm just glad the gator was staring, not starving.
Best Wishes for a great wedding. FYI, walking her down the aisle is emotionally very difficult.

No. They are "faster-er".

You mean the same ESPN draft insider that has Pierre Garcon listed as "Big 12" conference?
http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/12088

Don't take this the wrong way but I don't care how fast he isn't ( ???) - guy still had 11 grabs for 273 and 2 TDs last year. He was probably just as "un-fast" then.  ;D

4.6 is plenty fast. There's a difference between coach-timed and scout-timed 40s. The scout's time is inevitably longer but more accurate.

4.4 speed is not nearly as frequent as one would believe from popular media and players and coaches throwing times around.

Friday night I'll be getting into Alliance around midnight, Delta Airlines permitting. If anyone is still up, I'm up for a beer. :)

I had a difficult time finding anything on line about how fast Steve Koudossou.  Koudossou might be faster than the 4.61 listed on the ESPN site.  I did find an article from a Texas site that had the following post about D1, D2, & D3 metrics which I cut and pasted below.

Got this from coach Jackson at Poteet a while back. Pretty interesting stuff. This is a eight-year study.

Does it say which players were tested and how to come up with these numbers?

The site, Texas.247sports, didn't share much on how the data was collected.  A link to the site is http://texas.247sports.com/Board/21/Contents/Average-HtWt-40-time-in-DI-D2-and-D3-19456944

According to the Wesley football web site the Wolverines have given up 16 turnovers in 13 games played this year.  Wesley has played Mount Union 3 times in the D3 playoffs and gave up a combined 16 turnovers in those 3 games.  I'm not sure what the major contributing factor for the high turnover number, but it was very impactful in the close games played.

I wonder how things will turnout this time around.

Congratulations to Kevin Burke being named to the AFCA All-America Team.

The American Football Coaches Association has been selecting All-American team since 1945 and is limited to only 25 players per season.

In the press release they go onto say Burke is tied with Oregon's Marcus Mariota as the nation's highest rated QB at 186.3.

reality check

Off-topic but you guys are my little internet friends so...

I was the head coach of a varsity girls basketball program for the last two years.  In the off-season, the new principal at the school decided I wasn't the right guy for the program.  She attended zero games during my tenure.  Prior to my two seasons, the varsity program was 39-177 since 2002.  I went 26-27 including the only winning season in school history.  We have one all-time victory over our rival which took place in my first season and we beat an eventual state champion in my second to last game.  Zero academic issues or parent complaints (according to the AD that the principal also decided wasn't a good fit).  So needless to say I am not happy about the situation.

Well last night they lost 107-17 and has lost but 55 points or more 4 times this season already.  The team is 0-9 so far and the average margin in losses has been 49 points.  I hate this for the girls but I sure hope the administration is happy with the "new" direction of the program.

...back to your regularly scheduled programming.
