reality check

Well I'm always looking for new reasons to discriminate against people so it's already got one check in the "pros" column.

You guys probably know about this already, but there is a youtube channel with a bunch of Mt. Union and other d3 playoff games (and other college playoff games).  Pretty good because they are in HD.  This is the time of year where I start to crave football again and will watch games I didn't get a chance to see last year.

The channel is called 'the game'

Jason Trusnik shared on social media today that he has signed with the Carolina Panthers.  I'm thrilled he is continuing his career.  He's a great teammate and locker room leader.

Jason is a great person.  I remember when Jason was a scrawny quarterback and wrestled at 112 pounds at during his freshman year at Nordonia High School.

And I remember when he was a not so scrawny senior playing my alma mater in the state championship game in 2002.  I didn't realize at the time that at least three Nordonia players in that game would go on to great careers at ONU (where I was a junior at the time).  It's also worth noting that three guys in that game ended up playing in the NFL (Trusnik, Rob Sims and Javon Ringer).  Cool stuff.

Sure is cool stuff.  Jason Trusnik worked extremely hard and became a stud.  Rob Sims was already a big boy and a stud in high school and has continued to grow.  Javon Ringer didn't go to Nordonia, but he sure put a whooping on Nordonia when he ran for over 250 yards and I think scored 4 touchdowns in the High School Division II title game against Nordonia.

reality check

Yes, Ringer went to my alma mater.  And CJ came out on top thanks to him and QB Anthony Turner.  Ringer was only a sophomore in that championship season and wasn't even the full-time starter until the playoffs.  I know his yardage mark was a state championship record at the time.  I also distinctly remember the golf-ball sized knot sticking out of Turner's hand from a hit in the middle of the game and him missing a couple snaps and finishing the game with a broken hand.  It was a great game to be on the C-J side.

Can't bring myself to watch the '14 Stagg Bowl...once was enough.
The demise of UMU? How do you mean? Yes we lost to that team up north but you always strive to make the title game just to give your team a shot at winning...10 straight years is not a demise...VK has taken us there. I see another great year at UMU and with the running game we will have I can see us grinding an opponent into dirt. And the obvious is who'll play QB? I know Namdar is a super threat at WR but the kid can throw.
But whatever I'm an all out fan...and as the song goes..."see you in September."

There should be a law against the field at Eastern Washington.

"WHO WILL CALL THE SIGNALS IN THE OAC IN 2015?"
By JEFFREY ZUPANIC
http://www.the-review.com/mount%20union%20sports/2015/04/04/who-will-call-the-signals-in-the-oac-in-2015

Mount has Nick Peyakov, David Burkes, Taurice Scott and Roman Namdar
JCU is Jake Schaefer,
Heidelberg is Jon Sandwisch,
ONU is Tyler Walter,
Otterbein has Kevan Green and Joey Longhino
Not alot of experience last year for these QBs with the exception of Schaefer (40 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns) and Sandwisch (30 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown)
It will be a very interesting year to see who can step up and replace the great senior QBs from last year.

purpled,

From what I was told a few weeks back, T.Scott is listed #1 on the depth chart for the Spring. I agree Namdar
can throw the ball, but the Raiders may believe they need him and WR and are happy with Scott as the QB.
Regarding the other candidates, we will just have to see what develops come fall. :)

I talked to MTU coaches in February at a recruiting fair.  I asked them about the QB situation and they said the same, that T. Scott is QB1 right now.

Given the fact that the Raiders will most certainly roll through their schedule this year until at least the semi's, is there not a young QB who could develop over the course of 15 weeks (Including training camp) so both Scott and Namdar can remain at WR? Is it me or does Mount seem to lack depth at QB from time to time given the stature of the program?

This is only a guess and my opinion:

MTU recruits A LOT of QBs, but most of them end up playing other positions (FS, OLB, WR, TE).

MTU usually has a multi year starter at QB (minimum of 2 years) so other potential QBs may not want to come if they see the current QB is a Soph or Jr.

MTU has done pretty well over the years at QB so I am not worried:

Ballard - Gagliardi Winner - 1 X Natl Champ
Borchert - Gagliardi Winner - 2X Natl Champ
Smeck - 2X Natl Champ
Adamson - 2X Natl Champ
Bruney - 23-1 as a Starter
Jorris - 2X Natl Champ
Seaman - 22-0 as a Starter
Micheli - Gagliardi Winner - 2X Natl Champ
Burke - 2 X Gagliardi Winner - 1X Natl Champ

Are you giving both Jorris and Micheli credit for the same Stagg Bowl victory?

That is really an impressive list.
Were the 2009, 10 and 11 QB's one-year guys?

I may have with Jorris and Micheli.  I was looking at Career stats from each year.  Jorris started a lot that year and then Micheli took over more in the playoffs right?

Seaman probably was the one letdown of the bunch as he was oft-injured and never won the big one as a local kid.

There were a couple-three or so years when Moore, Kmic and Pugh were the workhorses and the QB wasn't as important as a component to the success (Bruney, Burghart, Jorris, Adamson) as when you had guys like Borchert, Micheli and Burke.

Rocco had a great single year in 2009 too.  All he managed to do was turn that into a solid arena career between Cleveland and now New Orleans.  I didn't realize he was doing as well as he is until I looked it up just now.
