Your logic seems correct to me.  I would think if he played 2 years of JUCO he would be a junior.  Perhaps he's just listed on the freshman roster because he's new?  If he's indeed a junior that stuff usually gets ironed out online once the season starts and they have the roster more solidified.

I see where a few kids listed on the freshman team have had their eligibility changed. The athlete l asked about is now listed as a sophpmore. But looking at the Fort Scott CC football roster for 2013-2014, he is listed as a junior? And again it sure looks like the same kid as listed on Mount's roster, same height and weight and same hometown. More than a little confusing, especially since a change had been made to a sophomore after l noticed him listed as a freshman. It also looks like he graduated from hs in 2011.

Welcome aboard, streak!  +k

I'm a glass half empty guy or something because I'd only have Mount and your Streaks as absolute locks.  BW absolutely should win, but it's BW.  And Berg is replacing a ton on offense and presumably trotting out their normal Swiss cheese D.

I'd go...

Locks:  JCU, Mount
Confident:  ONU, BW, Berg
Toss up:  Ott
Not likely:  Etta, Musky, Wilm
No chance:  Cap

Thanks!

I do know what you mean about BW being BW. But I actually feel like they're due for a good year! Not necessarily playoff good, but way to good to lose to Bluffton.

Also, can you imagine how good the Capital/Wittenburg game would have been ten years ago? That would have been like the non-conference game of the year. (correct me if I'm wrong, but there was a year in the quarterfinals that Cap. almost beat Mount. 2006 maybe?) They were so good back in the day. Capital was actually the first OAC team I saw play first hand (I was in 8th grade when they came North Central for the playoffs). It was North Central's best season in a long time, and being the hometown team, everyone was so excited for the game. And then Capital knocked them out, and I remember wondering how they didn't even win their conference, because they looked so good. (I was't familiar with Mount at the time haha). I would love the OAC to beat Wittenburg this year, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

You don't have to imagine, streak, they did play 10 years ago.  It wasn't quite as much fun as you might have thought.  At least not for Wittenberg.   :)

Witt and Capital actually played one another each season between 2004 and 2007, and once more in the playoffs in 2006.  Capital won all five games and they all ranged from not-really-close to make-it-stop embarrassing.  Those Capital teams were really, really good.

haha. oops. As I said, I was still in grade school/ early high school back then, so I wasn't paying too much attention to DIII football! It's kind of surprising  that Witt would lose so badly to any team, but I think that does speak to how good Capital was back then. I think had they knocked Mount off in the one quarterfinal I mentioned earlier, they may have had a good chance of winning the championship that year. The main problem (and I learned this last year with John Carroll :'( ) is that if you play Mount once and they make any mistakes, they will not make the same mistakes if you play them again. We had a very good running game in the first match up, but the second time, they shut it down. (But really, I'm totally not bitter. Not at all!) ;)

Yeah, now I feel incredibly old.

Those Capital/Witt games would have been better if Witt was more of their typical selves, but the mid-00s were not great years for Witt.  They were fine, they just weren't really good.  And Capital was great.  The quarterfinal game you speak of came in 2005...Capital squeaked by my top seeded Wabash team in the 2nd round.  The potential Mount Union @ Wabash quarterfinal that year will probably always be the most anticipated game that never was for Wabash fans.   :)

Dr. Acula

The game preview for Bethany has been posted so we have our first look at the 2 deep.  Some items of note from the first glance at it:

The defense looks pretty much as expected with so many guys returning.  Furda slides in at starting DE and Soph Mike Vidal gets the start next to Lally on the interior of the D line.  Zach Deerr takes over the SPUR spot ahead of Josh Stewart.  Both have played a lot in the past so I view this as no big deal.  A number of the back ups carry over from 2014 at LB and in the secondary so they have a ton of experienced depth everywhere but on the DL.

Offense was a little more intriguing.  QB and RB are as expected.  Tyler Baker gets the nod at LG as the new starter on the OL.  Nick Bushman has the distinction of being the lone freshman on the 2 deep as the back up RG. 4 WR are listed as starters with Namdar and Kennedy being no brainers.  But it's Octavian Wilson and Zach Herrington listed as the other two starters.  I remember seeing Herrington at Musky.  He's a big kid (6'4" 220).  Back ups include, as usual, big TE Lane Clark along with Hargrove, but it's  Friss and soph QB-turned-WR Collin Gilbert as the other two reserves.  Friss did a nice job as a WR and as a returner in a reserve role last year.

I wouldn't hold my breath. They've been due for a good season since Dan Larlham left campus.

BW being BW was just a jab at the Jackets.  You'll find that most Mount fans harbor a special disdain for BW.

It was just a pre-season scrimmage, but BW failed to score in a half plus a couple of series against CWRU

I don't know if "disdain" is the right word. I have always admired the hot dog theme of their uniforms. The bun colored pant, the mustard yellow piping on the pant , and best, a real hot dog brown jersey, again with mustard.

Don't you mean the excrement and urine uniforms?

reality check

Lay off the flaming pile.

I remember the fall of 99 when Witt was supposed to dominate and a team from Ada coming to Springfield and dismantling the Tigers.  ONU scored 24 points each in both the first and third quarters which was impressive considering the Tigers hadn't surrendered 24 points in a game for the entire year.

Haha! I like that! Since they are officially the rival of JCU (for the all so coveted Cuyahoga Gold Bowl), both those comparisons were mentioned regularly by the coaching staff. I always liked the hot dog one the best, but the other one seemed more popular......

Sir Battlescars

I just read the Around the Region column. All in all a good article, but is the John Carroll vs. St. Vincent game really one of the top 10 games to watch this year in the great lake region?? That's going to be a glorified JV game by halftime.

2014 NCAC Football Pick 'Em Champion!!

Dr. Acula

Did they mean game to watch because it's the first game post-Myers?  There's no way St. Vincent has the horses to deal with JCU's defense so I don't think that's a close game.  I'm assuming the Streaks will be up 3+ scores at half and coasts from there.
