Congratulations to Kyle Miller on making the 53 man roster with the Chargers.  Great job!

Berg's Dye and UWW's Kumerow were among the final cuts for their respective teams.  Both could be kept around on the practice squad.  Both guys would be wise to follow the same path as Miller who made the roster as not just a TE, but a TE who can also play fullback and be the backup long snapper.  From everything I read throughout preseason that was going to be Kumerow's issue.  NFL teams can't keep a #6 WR who can't play on special teams and the Bengals don't view Kumerow as capable of ST play currently.  I hope both guys latch on and keep grinding.

What a day , watched both Wilmington and Marietta play. Marietta may be bigger but they are what we thought they were. Congrats on the Quakers victory yesterday. I may have taken my best photograph ever at a game with the winning touchdown catch. Very exciting finish and loved watching the celebration.  I'd like to thank also whoever it was that turned my car keys in at Wilmington. It would have made for a interesting trip back to Columbus if they were not found.

Would you like to share that photo? Would be interested in seeing it.

I thought Marietta losing to Denison -- getting crushed, really -- was a huge blow for the OAC, worse than Heidelberg or Otterbein losing.

Watched the Raiders last night on STO and have a few thoughts. I know it is only 1 game....but:
1. Taurice Scott will rush for 1,000 and throw for 2,000. Kid is amazing - super strong arm (a 40 yard pass on target while flat footed in the pocket???). However, I liked Jim Ballards assessment. He needs to turn his front shoulder. JB kept saying he was sailing a few because of his left shoulder - and low and behold he was right (Gee - was he a QB or something ???). I am sure it will get worked on.

2. RB- Best stable of backs Mount has had, ever. I know they had Moore and Pugh, and Kmic and more Kmic but from top to bottom BJ, Nehmeth, Johnson, #23 (don't have the name) are all solid and would start at any other OAC school - and just about any program anywhere.

3. WR - deep and talented. Namdar looks better this year. I know he is fast and can out run coverage but what impressed me was the reception for a first down on a comback route. He was in traffic and had a DB on his back, caught it - took the hit and held on. He struggled with that last year.

4. Defense - lights out. I said 2 years ago that Lally was bigger than his first year and had slowed down, but would grow into his larger frame and be great. Last year he was good - this year he looks a bit leaner, definately faster and was everywhere. The D could push Mount to 5 or 6 shutouts this year. In addition to Gonnel and Jones and Kocheff - Mike Furda was putting the hurt on people.

On a side note: Congrats to James Norkus (OL) for Bethany. He played at Mount a few years ago and I had him in class. He got a really bad concussion, sat out the rest of the season and then disappeared from campus. I talked to him about it in class after it happened (he couldn't take light for 2-3 weeks afterwards). I didn't know what happened to him after but checked the pics on their site and saw it was him. Congrats on making it back. Good luck and safe travels the rest of the way.

All in all a great start for the Raiders.

as soon as I get my son to download it for me(sorry still not good at computers)I will have it up either here or at the oac and d3 facebook pages. I haven't been able to load pics on here before because of file size so we will see. Wilmington has a good pic on their webpage, better then mine.

anyone ever sat through a 4 hour game with no ot before? I did today at Marshall. Add the 90 degree heat and it was a long day. Good thing the game was exciting.

Yes, that happened routinely at Alma with "Scotgun Offense" until the past 3 years.  That offense, put in by former Offensive Coordinator/former AD John Leister (who is a former Michigan State Univ. QB, Pittsburgh Steelers, Michigan Panthers USFL and Boston Red Sox pitcher) took 4+ hours; often 3 passes per down series and an occasional draw play run thrown in there. ;) :)  It was the first used version of the open no huddle offenses (from the USFL) used in the MIAA for years.  However, I always thought it, unfortunately, was run too slow i.e. in getting the play called in which defeated the purpose of the "hurry-up, no huddle" offense technique/purpose.  It made for some long afternoon games, yet sometimes very exciting with all the passing going on.

The file size of my picture of the winning Wilmington catch is too large. I have posted the picture at d3football.com's and Wilmington's facebook pages as well as my own.

Not sure how the Raiders lost (2) first place votes when they won 47-0 and the teams ahead and below did not play?  ::)

mr_mom's spread is more powerful than you think. Consequences soon follow if one of his odds weren't met (Moun Union -53.5 against Belhaven).

02,

OK, I forgot how powerful his spreads really are. Do you think those who vote actually pick as well? :-\

I mean, the preseason poll was like 6 weeks ago.  I wouldn't think that two votes moving around is seismic.  I think it's reasonable that two people could have talked themselves into changing that vote prior to and regardless of the UMU result from Saturday.

There's been a lot of content to consume between July and Sunday. One of the best things about our poll is that our voters do not all feel obliged to stick with a team until they lose. That's exactly what's wrong with the coaches' poll, in fact.

Well, there's that, but the basic problem with coaches' polls is that coaches have neither the time nor interest to know as much as even somewhat interested fans about any team not on their schedule!

As to 'sticking with a team until they lose', I agree in general that that is not wise, but I think UWW (winner of 5 of 6 of the last Stagg Bowls) has earned a partial exemption.  Since they didn't lose an inordinate amount to graduation (though they do have a new coach, albeit an inside hire), I'll vote them #1 until they lose (or at least have several close shaves, IF UMU or Linfield are annihilating opponents).  Even then, you won't catch me betting against them in the post-season! ;)

Pat Coleman

I think your definition of inordinate may not be the same as others' and you kind of gloss over the major coaching change -- not just head coach but both coordinators and another full-time assistant.
