I just reviewed the Mount Union Marietta game's box score and noticed that Vince has adopted a trait of his dad in going for field goals on first and second down in the 4th quarter of blowout games.

First play of fourth quarter  2nd and 1 at 4 Mount kicks a field goal,

Next time Mount gets the ball they run of 8 plays for 51 yards to get to first and goal at 9 where they attempt a field goal.

Next time they get the ball they run 9 plays for 62 yards and kick field goal on first and goal from the 9.

A total of 19 offensive plays by Mount in 4 th quarter and only one was a pass.

The Muskingum / Capital game has been a good game to watch!  It has been back and forth all night.

Could Muskingum pull this out?

You guys seem to have underestimated Berg. Beating JCU 10-0

Games are more than 11 minutes long, too, though. We'll see how it finishes.

Too bad for Heidelberg that the game wasn't called after 10 minutes, would've been a nice win for them.  Are they the Student Princes, the Berg, or another nickname now?

Wish I had everybody's hindsight. Was only making the point that several people felt JCU would dominate them again. Never said that was how the game would end.

They are still the Student Princes. It's you sMUg people who come up with other nicknames for them.

BTW, I am a Mount grad.

sMUgness aside - when you go 0 for a decade (or very close to that) the nicknames sorta make themselves. 8-) And I am not a Mount grad.....Hiram College - insert nicknames here!

That's a bunch of crap. Giving almost every other institution of higher learning a diminutive little girls name as a nickname doesn't just happen. It's small minded people who make themselves feel bigger by putting others down. It embarrasses our alma mater to stoop to that. And the nickname on here for BW is even worse.

Your football team did a pretty nice job embarrassing themselves for about 50 years without this message board around to make up nicknames until they brought Hallet on board.

Interesting comment coming from a John Carroll fan, for it was a John Carroll alum who was the head coach of Heidelberg's football team during their most troubled times.

Curious that Cap has installed lights.  I recall one of their "deals" with the neighborhood was that there would be no night games.

I believe I heard the Cap broadcasters say it's a once a year thing only.  Perhaps the neighbors felt overly neighborly these days.

You say "most troubled times" and Toph says it was a proud moment in OAC espionage.

The trio of BoBo, praiderguy and rscl70 were the only players in double digits this week, each scoring 10 of 15 possible points.

02 Warhawk adds another point to extend his overall lead to four over new runner-up, wally_wabash.

Week #5 spreads will come out Monday night.

Actually, motorman, for a couple of years Heidelberg insisted people call its athletic teams "The Berg" -- that was not some Mount Union fan being smug. It was reality and part of the history of the department.

JCU is making me very nervous this year. If they could go back to beating teams by a lot, that would be great lol!
I give respect to BW though. Honestly, I thought that was going to be a blow out today (womp womp)

Too bad you fans of the purple don't support the baseball team like Dr Acula does so we could make fun of you over there.

Mount has a baseball team?  Really?   When did they start that?    When will the craziness end?  Hmmm, I wonder if they  play basketball too.....

And for the record,  I'm a smug U of Akron grad.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Best sign by an opponent that I have ever seen a few years ago, Mount versus Heidelberg:

congrats to Capital on their historic night. I didn't know the old house could hold that many people. Must have been a great game.

Glad to see other WR's make a contribution against Marietta. T. Kennedy had a very good afternoon!

Belated thoughts after watching the game at Etta:

Etta is bad.  Really, really bad.  O'Neal is a RB that you can see how he has success against some teams, but it's just going to work against a fast D like Mount.  The Pios can't get the push up front and the LB's and DB's are way too fast getting to the ball.  Hence the 10 carries for 9 yards and a long run of 4.  And as bad as they were on offense they were worse on defense.  716 yards including 412 on the ground, 41 first downs.  Yikes.  Waddle has his work cut out for him.

The D posted its 3rd straight shutout in dominant fashion.  6 first downs allowed was it.  Etta never really felt like they threatened to do much until the 2nd unit was in there.  Lally looked great again yesterday.  Jones made a couple really nice tackles in the open field to keep short passes short gains.  My concern continues to be how battle tested the D is going to be heading into the playoffs.  I was watching the JCU/BW game too and, quite frankly, both of those teams looked very pedestrian offensively.  ONU may prove to be the stiffest test with a good RB, a good WR and now another WR (Allen) who seems to be emerging as their big play threat.

The Raider offense looked very good running the ball.  Mitchell and Nemeth ran hard.  And for those keeping track at home I think they had exactly the same amount of carries.  Scott was smart about his runs, but had his best run (a 33 yard TD where he escaped and made one cut to the middle and just outran everyone to the endzone) called back on a penalty.  Aaron came in and did the same hard running including a run on a 3rd down where he reversed his field and just fought and willed his way through traffic to the first down.  I love seeing stuff like that in a game that's long since decided.  All these kids bust their butts in practice so when they get in they want to make plays too.  Nero looked strong in limited action.

The passing game looked pretty good.  Namdar was quiet aside from his TD catch which was a filthy double move that got him wide open.  The DB from Etta covering him did a pretty solid job for the most part I thought.  Kennedy did what he does and caught those short passes and turned them into 10-15 yards.  Scott misfired on some throws, but once again showed great decision making for the most part.  He is showing a good head for when to throw it away on a roll out, when to tuck and run.  Again, the passing game is not as crisp as we're used to but we're also used to a 2 time Gagliardi winner throwing to seasoned WR's.  Scott has 7 TD, 0 INT.  I'm beyond happy about that start.

Finally, I got to watch Lowry for a few series.  I'm sure some folks would wonder why the heck we talk about a backup QB, but he came in with around 12:00 left in the 3rd qtr so we see quite a bit of these kids unfortunately.  First off, I'll admit I chuckled about the Cedar Point joke when I saw him.  My guess is he's 5'8"?  But you know what?  You take that if the kid is that kind of athlete.  Most of his throws were short stuff so I have no idea how good his arm is, but I do have an idea about his legs.  That kid is explosive.  If he can throw it?  I'm on the Lowry 2016 bandwagon big time.

Week # 5 spreads have been posted.  Sorry for making y'all work so hard, but there were a lot of fun games scattered throughout the D3 ether this week.

As usual, all picks to be in by Saturday Noon.  Go have fun!
