with the 0AC at least being perceived as being down this year do you think the league will get 2 teams in the playoffs? Doubt it will have a home game if they do.

Don't know who that second team would be right now.  ONU just beat JCU, but has a very bad loss to BW this year.  JCU clearly isn't it.  Everyone but Mount is going likely have at least two losses.  I think perception might be reality.

Agreed.  This definitely doesn't feel like a 2 bid season right now.  Short of ONU or JCU upsetting Mount I don't see how it happens this season.  Either of those teams at 8-2 is likely going to be slotted behind several teams in the North pool C line.  And frankly, if we're talking about the overall rep of the OAC nationally I don't think we want a 2nd team this year.  It would most likely just feed into the theory that the OAC is Mount and that's it.

Sort of off topic, but if you're Arth do you consider making a change to a younger QB now?  I think it's clear this far into the season that Schaefer isn't going to carry them to the playoffs.  In that case do you start seasoning a QB for 2016?  I'm definitely not saying throw in the towel and play a bunch of kids.  They're still too good for that scenario.  But I would think they have another option at QB that wouldn't be a huge drop off and would allow them to gain some positives for 2016 while still playing to win now.

I think it's worth looking into playing younger guys.  They have a lot of quarterbacks (none of the freshman are listed on the gameday roster on the web, I'm not there so I can't see who dresses) in this year's freshman class.  I like the film I saw on that kid from Acquinas, it was posted here a few months ago.  But at the same time, I trust Arth's judgement.  He's a sharp guy and obviously he knows QBs.

I had to start from scratch.  From tagging them to each player, clipping, spot-shadowing, and picking the order.  I had to clean up a lot of the stats along the way because some of the plays I knew should be tagged weren't showing up.  HUDL is awesome, don't get me wrong.  But there was a lot of work to do as well.

I make the kids tag their own highlights and then I put together the final product for them.  Puts the onus on them to do some work.

Nice game for P. Garcon for the Redskins, made some tough catches in traffic to help the team win! :)

I liked what the broadcasters had to say about PG:
He is a tough, nasty football player

On a down note - Cecil was injured in the Texans game on the last play (I believe it was the last play). Shoulder injury - but have not seen an update.

Yeah but I feel like they don't understand what is and isn't worthy of a highlight all the time.  They tag their own but I still had to do a lot of cleaning up along the way.

I compliment the Capital players on playing Mount Union tough in the first half. They hit, took a lot of hits, and hung in there admirably. Several of their players showed grit and determination. I think the Capital coaching staff is doing about as well as it can with what they have. They deserve to win some games this year. I hope they do.

I was watching the highlights of the Mount/Cap game and saw something that I had not noticed before. Watch how BJ carries the ball. Mount always has preached the "5 points of contact" on the ball (think every carry Kmic ever had) with the ball high, and only one shift or transfer of the ball during a run. Kmic, Moore, Pugh...come through the line virtually the same way - ball in center with both arms around it, make a cut, transfer the ball and carry it high and secure. Mitchell runs like the ball is a baton in the 400 relay. The ball is low, away from his body, and moves with his arms.

The first one is at about the 30 second mark. He doesn't seem to do this until he clears the LOS - but he does it repetitively. Has anyone else noticed this?

OAC Week #6 Pick-em spreads have been posted.

As promised, I reduced the number of out-of-conference games, not because there weren't interesting selections, but rather because they duplicated conferences.

Go have fun!   :D

I find it amusing on how many plays my players actually tag as a highlight.  I may have to hold a seminar to go over it with them.  They'll totally be out of position, make terrible reads, get lucky when a player cuts back to them and they make a tackle 20 yards downfield and they'll tag it.

LOL!! Go through this all the time with the kids. They'll show me their "highlight" picks, then I'll tell them what a coach will see when he looks at it. Needless to say, their highlights get "trimmed down" a little after that!

So I played before Hudl was a thing (wayyy back in the early 2000's) and making my highlight tape was an arduous process of cutting and pasting from game tapes, but a few thoughts here: the kids may not be sure how many "highlights" they will have (or are supposed to have).  I was an offensive and defensive lineman, and I remember trying to put together a highlight tape after my sophomore season and finding, like, four plays that were actual "highlight" plays.  The rest were basically "Oh, you controlled the gap you were supposed to on a sweep to the other side" or "you sealed off your man nicely on the backside of a 70-yard TD run" plays.  So I don't blame the kids a little for casting a wide net from the start.

I am sure you guys are right, and I'm not really disagreeing, just thinking out loud about why kids might tag a few extra "highlight" plays that don't make the final cut.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Really solid observation.Your comments make a very good point about highlights being "positional" .... As was in your case, if you are a lineman on either side of the ball, there are things that will stand out to a prospective coach that go beyond pancake blocks and sacks. You obviously want to see strong push back, power and an athlete that can play low to the ground with speed. Defensively, controlling your gap, pursuit angles, etc., are all very important. Offensively, seal blocking, front recognition, blitz recognition and pick up, etc., are all highly important, as well.  And, of course, technique is very important on both sides of the ball. As a coach, I take it as my responsibility that each of my kids have the opportunity to fully develop each facet. In this age of the ESPN highlight plays, kids often get swept away with the sensational and ignore the solid, and fundamentally strong. But coaches don't.

This tragic event is impacting the whole Mount Union community. My son knows the victim's sibling and close friends. It is very hard for my son. I could hear it in his voice when we spoke last night. Please pray for the student who died, the student's family and friends.
