Hello All My OAC Internet Friends!

I have been out of the loop regarding Mount (by design), but expect to get back into it within the next coming weeks.  Skunk has to work a lot of Saturdays, so going to a game has not happened as of yet.

And quite honestly, (and I know you die-hards will find this blasphemous), I don't really want to sit through a 51-7 game that is basically over at half.  The OAC is down this year, and unless Mount gets hit with a bout of intestinal flu that keeps most of the team off the field, I don't see them being challenged in the regular season, or the first two rounds of the play-offs (at least).

As far as the passing game goes, Scott is an "athlete", and will make plays when it counts.  It won't ever be a highly efficient process, but it will be a highly explosive one.

Good to see all the "usual suspects" still hanging around on the boards.

SF - hope all is well with you my friend.  See you around play-off time.  Looks like you have a solid group down there this year.

The thing that Ballard has mentioned on more than one game is that Scott throws the ball flat footed.  He doesn't even step into the throws which is crazy that he can throw the ball that far without even stepping into it.  But he was under throwing Namdar yesterday and it cost them several times including the interception.

The question, however, is this: does Scott always make sure to sit under his picture or his jersey at the local establishments like ol' Jimbo?

The rumors are true...the head ball coach is hanging it up
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

OAC Pick-Em Week # 6 spreads have been posted.

With a total spread of 163.5 points, at least on paper, there doesn't appear to be a conference game this week that could lure skunks_sidekick back.

And with HBC retiring, does that mean that spurrier will be changing his handle?
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Looking at the schedule it doesn't look like there's a good game the next 3 weeks.  Gonna be a looong few weeks in here.  We better brush up on our uniform knowledge.  We may need it.

Glad you mentioned it - does anyone know if Mount ever had uniforms with the lavender/teal combo? Or was it just listed as the school colors? I was going to look through year books...can't find one on the internet.

According to Dr. Saffell in his book "Wake the Echoes," the change from lavender and turquoise  to Purple and White was made in 1901, pretty much by accident.  I won't go into the full story.  Dr. Saffell also notes that in the 1950's there was a strong student movement to restore the Purple and White.  "In the late 1950's the athletic teams were being outfitted in other colors. Cheerleaders at one point wore Scotch Plaid. The band wore blue and gray.  The Dynamo in 1957 pointed out that, 'On the baseball diamond a spectator could not distinguish the Purple Raiders from the Black Pirates.'"  Seems like history does repeat.

+K for that bit of history. I am also putting in a link to a Mount Union College (the good ol' days)RB drills sheet I found. I find it interesting given the way BJ carries the ball and that it complies with none of this sheet (except he hasn't fumbled- has he?). I have seen him "rake" the ball 3 and 4 times on a carry. Anyway - an interesting read.

Great stats - no doubt. BJ and Mount have dominated so far against teams with a combined 8-18 record. Just saying that Mount will play better teams down the road.

So I was browsing around the JCU website today at lunch, and I cam across a really cool archive page! They have a lot of the old programs from JCU football games. Here's the one from JCU vs. Mount Union in 1932!

There are a lot of other cool old ones as well

Dedication the Steve Spurrier way:

"As for why he is resigning, Spurrier said that he has always been adamant that he would coach as long as things were going well. "But if it starts going south, if it starts going bad, I need to get out," Spurrier said."

Good message for the young kids - "when it doesn't go like you want, quit".

Spurrier is 70 years old.  He's done more to make South Carolina football relevant than any individual in the school's history.

He offers a rational explanation for why he is doing it now. He also sends this message: "When something is inevitable, I believe you do it right then," Spurrier told the media. "You don't wait a week. You don't wait two weeks. This has to happen, let's do it and let's get started in a new direction. That's what we hope to do today."  Would you have him stay and go through the motions?

And why are you putting "when it doesn't go like you want, quit" in quotes?  You're not quoting anything that he or anyone else in the articles stated.

I am quoting me. I meant to use ' and '. I just hate to see a coach walk out on his team mid season. Don't care that he is 70 - finish what you start.

I also hate to see a someone quit something mid-stride when others are relying on him. You can't tell me that a talent evaluator as astute as Steve Spurrier didn't have a pretty good idea what he had in relation to the rest of the SEC during spring camp. Or at least in relation to the last couple of years when he had baseline good and baseline bad teams for comparison. He had to have a pretty good idea and if he didn't want to stick it out through thick or thin, he should have left before this season started.

On the other hand, I completely respect SC for giving him the opportunity to make his own decision. He has done a lot for SC football and he deserved the right to end it how he wanted to end it. So I'm glad he is getting to choose when, even if I disagree with his timing...
