Good, because I got confused on when you said "playing tougher teams will not amount to anything".

Thanks for the clarification

Just like many of us think that UWW/River Falls game last year gave them the kick in the pants they needed before entering the playoffs.

Hmm.. Dubious, I think.  Did the close call with River Falls push Whitewater to the championship OR did Jake Kumerow's ankle healing up enough just in time for the last month of the season push Whitewater to the championship?  Honestly, which one of these things makes the most sense?

Have you been paying attention to what everyone is saying?!?! Of course Jake coming back was huge...but so did playing in tough games leading into the playoffs. Ask any ex-athlete (there's pleanty of them on here) and they will agree that stiff competition unquestionably helps one get better. Far more than winning 72-3 all the time. Of course getting great recruits, coaches, facilities, etc... are a big factor, but there's more to it. I don't understand what's so difficult to understand here.

It's funny you question me about the UWW/UWRF game, but not Mount fans about the ONU game in 2005.

Actually it was: "My statement was that simply playing tougher teams won't get you anything."

"simply" is the key word - I could have used "that in and of itself". But its all good. As for Wally - I think its an NCAC thing. Read part of a post - not the whole post - make assumptions to suit. No offense Wally.

In other news - heading to the Mount game tomorrow with my daughters. Looking forward to a great game - granted my 6 year old has had her Mount cheerleading outift laid out for a week and all she wants to see are....well cheerleaders. Hopefully I can see some of the game as well.

I don't like to talk about 2005.   :)

But if we're going there, no, I don't particularly think that UMU losing a sloppy, rainy, muddy mess of a game in Ada in 2005 had much at all to do with them winning the title later that year.  I think Nate Kmic rushing for 1,000 yards iand 13 TDs in the tournament had a lot to do with it though.

Updated- I goofed on the location of that game.  It was 10 years ago.  No excuse though.  Mount Union hasn't lost a road game since the early 70s (unofficial) and I should have known better.

Gotcha, desert. I was reading from this post here, where "simply" was omitted. I didn't see your original post.  And take it back about me being a NCAC cherry pick of posts ;D

Playing tougher teams will not amount to anything. Why does Eau Claire "stink like a foot"? Because Eau Claire has not committed to getting better. Same with Wilma, Etta, Musky, etc. They play the best year after year. You can't take crap and make a wedding cake (not compare the talent at these schools with crap but....best I got). It just isn't going to happen. You have to build. You have to get better talent, coach it, test it - sorry but who they play will matter on some level - and keep doing it year after year. UWW was average when they played Mount to open 02/03 (?). They didn't think playing Mount would by default make them better. They saw the best and saw what it took to get to that level - and they took the steps needed. But don't try to say playing in the WIAC with tough competition didn't help them along the way.

Ya may not like to talk about 2005 - but Mount didn't lose in Ada - it was sloppy, rainy, muddy mess in Alliance. And Kmic rushed for 12 tds - the 13th was a reception against Rowan.

Noted.   :)

I'm going to go ahead and stand by my statement though that Kmic mattered more (most?) to that 2005 title than losing that game to ONU did (I absolutely don't buy the "good loss" theory ever, but that's a separate debate).

How about a little accountability.
Too many of you choose to ignore the actual statements made, or give a pass to the arrogance of some on these boards.
I, Emma 17, said Mt isn't as well prepared to play against the best teams because of the horrific competition in the OAC.  I stand by that 100%.

Besides calling my opinion a horrible, lazy take, Wally said:
"UWW has been beating Mount Union because their line play (both sides) has been superior.  Full stop.  Nothing to do with what league they play in.  UWW has better dudes on the lines than Mount Union and pretty much everybody else.  That's the separation point."

This folks, is Wally's position.  And it's also the position that HS Coach agreed with (and then in a subsequent post came off it a bit, blaming coaching).

For those that have come on here and said "I'm with Wally on this one, or something along those lines, you are agreeing to the above statement.

Never, not once, did I say the "Jimmys and Joes" aren't important, or even critical to the success of a team.

Whether you like it or not, I will hold Wally accountable to not only what he says, but how he says it.
Wally is wrong.  And if you agree with him, you're wrong too.

And Usee- You're wrong about your yards per carry statement.  You never added a qualifier like (if there are x turnovers blah, blah, blah).  I'll be happy to copy and paste your post.  Be accountable for what you say.

Lastly,
I'm not sure what O2 and desertraider are disputing, I think you are on the same side (the correct side) of this discussion.

Can't we just be glad we have something different to debate on this website, rather than defending against the Neanderthals who just want Mount Union and Whitewater to move up a division?

No, you are correct Emma. 02 and I are on the same side - just needed to clarification to ensure we were. I think the longer the conversation continues, the more pages it occupies, the harder it gets to remember all the posts. That's why I the clarification was needed.
