Kudos sir. Now that I look at it...I don't think the streaks will rush for that many yards. Roll Raiders!

desertraider,

My guess is that mr. mom will go with 27.5! :)

From the BW write-up of the Mount game:

"On the first play of the fourth quarter, Scott threw his fourth scoring aerial when he alluded a number of tacklers and found Hargrove at the three-yard line who bulled his way into the endzone for a 28-0 lead. Antel's fourth PAT ended an 8-play and 80-yard drive that followed a missed Yellow Jacket field goal attempt."

So Taurice "indirectly referenced a number of tacklers". Impressive.

Congratulations to the BWC football team. You showed fight and spirit. I was a little surprised the BW staff kept running their good QB down 35-0 late in the fourth quarter. A BW guy sitting next to me said, "he's going to get hurt." and "bang" he got blasted by #4 and got hurt. I do not think the JCU game will be remotely close. They will not be able to score and will not be able to stop Mount Union. JCU fans, who have seen some great Mount Union teams over the years, might be looking at one of the best yet. Anybody know how Wilson is? I hated to see that kid get hurt and would like to hear he's going to be back soon.

purple,

Agree, I have never been a fan of the the BW Head coach and allowing the leader of your team take a beating when the game
is out of hand in in-excusable. While I understand stats can give a false impression at times, the Raiders this year certainly
measure up to them. The passing game has improved and the running game led by Nemeth, Scott and Mitchell will be a force
for opponents in the playoffs. This may be the Best defense the Raiders have ever had, but only the playoffs will confirm that. :)

If anyone is expecting a close game between the Purple Nurples and the Brown Streaks, like something similar to the last two years, they will be extremely disappointed. This one will be over shortly after halftime, Mount wins by 45 and probably sleep walks to the Stagg Bowl again.

Well, I'm probably way off base here, but it's John Carroll at John Carroll, could be closer than we might think.  Also, isn't it possible that we could end up with both UWW and UMHB on our side of the bracket?  That would not be a "sleep walk."  (Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, not that anyone needs permission.)  :)

I expect to see JCU go for broke. If they win - they are in. If they lose - no matter how close - they are out. If I am Arth (and I am not  ;D) I pull out everything. Win the coin toss? Defer and onside kick. Go for it on 4th down and less than 5 from anywhere near the 50. Fake punt - sell out to block punts. Direct snaps to RB's - anything. If JCU does anything less then they are satisfied with 2nd place. That's my take.

This kind of thing has always fascinated me: if you're a heavy underdog, why not just go for broke?

I've always leaned yes.  If I were coaching a #16 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament, I would have a couple crazy strategies at the ready.  Something like "We're going to shoot a 3 pointer every time down the court for the first 10 minutes" or "we'll full-court press and run on every opportunity for the first 3 minutes, then substitute the entire team and do it again for the next 3 minutes, then settle into a normal game."

The flip side is that maybe your kids actually can win the game straight-up, and you don't want to send the message to the guys that you don't believe in them.  But I say screw it.  If I played for a team in that position, I would love my coach's boldness.

So how far do you go?  I think a couple things on your list are a bridge too far, but I absolutely agree with going for it on any 4th down at the 50 or beyond, having a trick play or two in the back pocket, selling out to block kicks, etc.  Just go for it, man.

I should hope so....but what about the "behind the behind the back toss" on a 2pt. conversion ala the Tommies?

Not sure I agree that JCU is definitely out with a loss. They probably are, but I wouldn't say it's a done deal. That being said, can you imagine what would happen to pool C if JCU wins? Mount would get a spot no questions, as would UWW, MHB, Wesley, and St. Johns. If both JCU and DePauw win, this could be the lease suspenseful pool C ever! :D
