I was at the Mount game and have a few observations:
1. To the SLU dad (my assumption) outside the stadium who said "if we played the first 3 quarters like we played the 4th we could have won this game". You are right. If Mount had played the backup D and O for the first 3 qtrs you might have won that game.
2. To the other SLU dad (again my assumption) that replied "they couldn't throw on us that's for sure". Really? The score at that point was 55-7, throwing wasn't needed.

On the game:
1. Taurice was throwing flat and late all day. Namdar saved 2 int's with good defense. On both passes  if Taurice puts air under the ball (no deflate-gate comments please  ;D) then both are scores. Namdar was deeper by 2 or three steps on both and Taurice under threw him both times. TS missed Kennedy twice on a crossing route. Kennedy was WIDE open and TS threw the ball a good 5 yards behind him.
2. Nehmeth was a beast. Period.
3. The Defense (front 4) dominated. Period. 12 sacks does not even begin to tell the story...3 yds rushing.
4. Tre Jones looked like crap. Period. For some reason he reverted back to old Tre and refused to turn his head. Had he done this  he had 2 ints.
5. Mount's secondary played sloppy. The first TD drive had 2 pass interference calls, one was on 3rd and long.
6. SLU scored in the 4th on a pass to the covered side of the field - your WR stepped out of bounds (two steps actually). The official on that side was looking to the middle of the field turning and he missed it completely. However, a score is a score. The thing is that again had the DB turned his head. Sloppy Mount secondary play.

The 16 4th qtr points were disappointing. They gave up a lot of passing yards because they did not have the same pressure up front. That being said when the starters were in if the pressure was not there the secondary was giving up chunks. Mount is living and dying on the front 4s ability to get pressure. Secondary needs to step up. Forgot one thing: The SLU defensive player that layed out Kennedy. It was a solid, clean, brutal hit. However, standing over him after the play, looking down and pounding your chest....really...taunting? Not a good move down 48-7. Your QB paid for that one. I know they called roughing the passer, but that was questionable.

SLU had some big WRs and had success underneath on quick passing routes. I attribute some of this to the change at QB. The gameplan changed after that and they went with 5-10 yard crossing and outs. It was smart on their part but had the QB not gotten hurt I don't know if they make that change. Anyway - Roll Raiders~Roll.

Agree wholeheartedly about Scott's passing...his running was outstanding. Nemeth is a real playoff RB...
Also agree that Mount D against pass is in direct relation to the pressure up front, however, this can be said for most any team.
The Kennedy hit was made up for by Spencer who laid out the  backup QB later, but standing over a fallen opponent is bush league..or worse
It was unfortunate that Lefflbine got hurt, I thought he was the best QB we have seen all year.  The backup was a soph as was the #81 receiver who did most of their damage...great future for those two.
Scoring against the backups is no big deal...rather that than a key starter getting hurt in garbage time...just win and advance.
Was really happy with ONU win..they backed up the selection committee's decision.  The top two or three in the OAC is better than  8 or 10  teams that get in...

Speaking of key starter - what happened the Alarms? I saw him go down and get helped off. All the attention was on his right bicep which was wrapped before the game. He could not move his right arm and did not come out after the half. He would be a huge loss.

First off, big congratulations to Mt. Union.  Great team, and we were outmatched from the get go.  Our best LB got hurt a few weeks ago, but even if he was healthy it would have had 0 bearing on the game.  As far as the SLU parents, you have to realize that this team was 0-10 in 2012.  They turned that around into one of the best seasons in school history.  Not to say they were right or realistic about anything, but this is the first time our program has sniffed any sort of success in a long time.

Either way, Mount Union football speaks for itself.  Storied program that gets it done on the field in all aspects of the game.  As you said, it was encouraging to see Richardson come in and have some success.  Lefflebine has done wonders for SLU football and it'd be nice to have some QB continuity after he leaves.

The big take away from this for SLU is: the team didn't quit. Ask any Mount fan how many teams have come in talking and by the middle of the second qtr appear to be talking about 'who sits where on the bus home'. SLU did not quit. Kudos on that. As far as the parents go - it wasn't a big deal or anything - just kinda made me laugh. I was at the Mount/Musky game a few years back and one of the Musky parents (not my assumption as his t-shirt said "Muskingum Dad") said "these guys ain't that good" to which a Mountie replied "bet your kid disagrees". Again, just made me laugh. Good luck in the years to come for SLU.

Did the St Lawrence QB get knocked out of the game on the personal foul by Lally??

Desertraider - I'm very interested to see how UMU does against a team that can slow down the run game.  That St L dad was overstating but Scott was not a study in efficiency yesterday at 50% and they'll have to be better than 5.5 yards a throw to get to Salem, IMO.

The tackle was flagged for unnecessary roughness but it wasn't dirty or anything.  Lally is a monster.

Gotcha - I wasn't sure as I didn't watch the game.  I've seen Lally in person in 2013 and 2014 and he's a beast.  Very, very good DL.

Very disappointing to hear your assessment of Tre Jones' regression.  Pat and I talked last year how his play was one of the keys to handing Wesley that bitter pill of a season-ended.  I am rooting for the kid to get his mojo back.

Some messy weather, some messy spreads, but most everyone got half of the available points in Round One of the OAC Playoff Pick-emgobash83 was just a little better than the rest, missing the Wesley-Framingham game (by 0.5 points) and the STL-MUC game (as did most).  joelmama was a single point back.

Round Two spreads come out Monday night.  Each game will be worth two points.

Cecil Shorts III threw for a TD today for the Texans.  Is that the first NFL TD pass for a Mount guy?

I second the comment by Desert Raider...The St. Lawrence kids did not quit and played with huge hearts for 60 minutes.  Many teams have packed it in, as was mentioned, but not the Saints.  Showed the finest character possible by a team.
Unfortunately, I cannot say that about the Buckeyes today...a couple selfish stars threw their coaches and teammates under the bus that they are taking out of town...Hope they are benched for Michigan this week.

I couldn't find one.  But Scott Wolfe threw a number of touchdowns for my Northrop Grumman flag football team.  Many to former Youngstown State's Dustin Helle.

But we didn't have any ringers.    ;)
