Alarms is not listed on the 2 deep this week.  Elijah Berry is starting in his place.

OAC Playoff Pick-Em, Round Three spreads are posted.

Please no haters.  During the regular season, I pushed you to think about other conferences.  This week, I push you to think about other football bodies.

[Just be glad the Canadian InterUniversity Sport [CIS] champion was already determined last week]

Please get your [American] picks in by Noon, Saturday.

Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

I disagree with raiderpa when he opinions "Scott is not a great QB."  Yes he is ,by any measure, even given the high standards set by previous QB's at Mount Union. He's undefeated, great runner, very good passer, unflappable, a leader, and a  threat to score  from anywhere on the field every time he touches the ball. Amazing year, especially considering he will start his thirteenth game at QB on Saturday. If the Purples win the National Championship this year, he has to be considered one of our best ever.

Scott has done an excellent job at QB this year.  For a SR to start w/o a lot of experience in his 2 previous years and have his performance  is outstanding.  He has had very few major mistakes and has run the Off. with skill and leadership.  I have seen no attitude problem with him and his status will be be determined in the next 3 weeks.   There is no other QB still playing that I would take over him.

Scott is very good. One of the best ever? Not so fast. Gindlesberger, Woolf, Borchert, Ballard, Smeck, Burke, Micheli, Jorris - where exactly does he fit?

Scott's season: 65.4%, 2674 yds, 34tds, 4 int. 763 yds rushing.

He is not in the top 10 in ANY of those categories (no category for rushing yards by QB). As far as Mount QBs who started career 12-0.....take your pick. Like I said he is good - very good - but one of the best? Statistically he is behind Kurt Rocco. No offense to Kurt but in the Mount QB discussion - does he even get mentioned as a great?

My post was not meant to demean Scott's QB play this year. quite the contrary. A phenomenal year.  A superb athlete, perhaps a great athlete.  Had he performed in this fashion over two or three years as the others have, who knows. Perhaps had he played at any other D3 schools, save a couple, he would be considered great.  But, when you look at the measuring stick for QB's at Mount Union, the standard has been so elite that to even crack the top 5 or 6. Even the top 10.
Does a QB at Mount Union have to win the Stagg to be considered great?  I don't think so. But it would go a long way for #11.
From my limited perspective, he may be the best athlete to ever play the position, That is the point I was making.

raiderpa

Wow, looking at the coaching postings here, D3 has as many firings as D1.  A lot of good jobs open.

And I agree with you....but think because of the elite standard a Mount QB almost has to win at least 1 Stagg to be considered great. Bruney was a really good QB and so was Burghardt - both incredibly athletic and true great QBs...at another school. But the absence of the Ring leaves them out of a lot of QB discussions because all of the others have 1, 2 or 3. For me Burke is the exception - he has 1 sure - but I put him so high on the list because he carried Mount to a chance at 2 more. Just didn't have enough around him to get them. IMHO.

Statistically he's behind Rocco because Rocco had one of the best seasons ever at Mount.  Rocco isn't mentioned as one of the greats because he had the poor timing of overlapping with Micheli for all but his senior year.

Scott, like Rocco or any other 1 year starter, has a tough hill to climb to get labeled as "great".  So here's a question: if Scott leads them to a win Saturday against Wesley, then beats UWW (for the sake of this example) and then beats a Linfield/UST/MHB in the Stagg would that resume be enough?  That would be the toughest championship path navigated in some time, IMO.

It's always in the PDF game preview notes on Mount's website each week.  3 or 4 pages in usually.

I know Rocco had a great season, one of the best stat years for a Mount QB. But that is the point. Scott is a 1 year starter, so I looked only at single season performances. In terms of all the single season performances Scott isn't in the conversation...yet. He has had a good year - not a great one. Now if he leads Mount to a win this weekend, and against UWW (does anyone really think Osh-Kosh can beat UWW again?), and then a Stagg win over UST (I just think it will be them in the end) - mark him in the books. That would be the toughest path to the title and elevate him in my book.

The next 3 weeks will define Scott's legacy.   Not the first 12.   I could have played QB the first 12 weeks and Mount would still be the undefeated.   Play great and win the next 3 then we'll talk.   Otherwise he's simply a faster version of Zac Bruney which is a really good D3 QB, but NOT one of the greats.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.
