And once again we ask:  Just how freaking good was Joe Callahan???

It appears to me that Caruso builds his teams like rowan of old use to with a lot of DI and DII transfers.  This is legal but somehow  it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  Just my two cents worth. GO RAIDERS

Small but Slow

It's been a while since I've posted. Fall gets a little busy. I saw the Cap game in person in October during my son's recruiting visit. We've hoped things worked out to see the Raiders back in Salem again this year, and it seems things have worked out for us. Looking forward to seeing many of you up there at the team reception and at the tailgate. Any word on whether the team will be at the same hotel as usual or if they're changing things up? Ought to be a great game.

No offense to any other starting QB in Division III, but Joe Callahan is flat out the best. For those around the nation that were unable to see him in person, it is hard to explain just how many times he could make a miracle out of nothing, how he could just brush off rushing linemen and find an open receiver downfield, or how he could find a running lane with 6 men coming his way. Even though he isn't prototypical NFL size, there isn't a throw on the field that he can't make. Will that and his stats be just enough to get him to a NFL rookie camp, who knows, but I'd love to see it happen.

Congrats to UMU on taking care of business today. Congrats to UWW as we all know they will find a way to make it back to Salem. Even though I was born and raised in MN, I hope the Mount kicks those Tommies in the arsh.

So sad to think that D3 football will be over in less than a week.  :'(

What a great game! Too all the D doubters...hmmm. The D looked pretty good. A couple of points. I will admit I was worried when UWW drove down the first 2 series and scored. That TE (81) for UWW was a beast! However - UWW did nothing after that. Take away 2 big plays (1 each on the first 2 drives) and this is a shutout. Some things I didn't understand. I didn't understand why Mount fans on the on the open side (where I was) were booing the Warhawks when they took the field. Seriously? We are way better than that and I was a bit embarrassed. I didn't understand why Tre didn't pick the ball in the end zone on UWW's first drive. He was dynamite in coverage all day, but opted to swat the ball away even though he was in front of the WR (I did notice his hands immediately went to his helmet as if to say "why didn't I just catch it?"). Other than that - I understood everything else!

The stadium was electric! It was loud, fans were involved, it was packed! The D set the tone early and didn't let up - but they were controlled and not just flying around. By the 3rd and 4th qtrs - the D-line and LBs (especially Spencer) were hitting the QB at will. On Offense - L O G A N N E M E T H! He just kept pounding the ball. I think that took a lot of pressure off of T Scott. He didn't have to do too much and could just play. The oline was great in protection and opening holes all day. I don't mean this as a negative to UWW but coming in all I heard about was how physical, strong and big UWW  was - well Mount out-physicaled them on both sides of the ball.

To UWW - great game (seriously). Your QB was banged up from the start, your RB was too, but you stayed in the fight and we all know we will meet again. I was talking to a couple of you at half-time behind the stands and really enjoyed hearing about the rivalry from your side. Safe travels to all.

That might be a little bit of an overstatement. Other than the rb, who transferred to become a priest by the way, I'm not aware of any other upper division transfers. A corner from the twin cities transferred back from D3 Elmhurst. Might be an o lineman out there in the two deep too, but that's it. Wouldn't call 1-2 upper division transfers a lot. Pretty comparable to many others I would think.

Roberts the RB is the most notable and HE sought out Caruso after he decided to join the seminary, not the other way around.  There might be more legit or debatable complaints about Caruso but that one doesn't ring true at all.

Sounds like Garcon seeking out Mount, although he went up in competition (not technically but realistically) instead of down.

By the way, Roberts sounds like another Eric Liddell.  I don't suppose he has any religious objections to playing on Friday nights?  Or maybe in Virginia, named after the decidedly non-Catholic Queen Elizabeth?

Hmmm.  There must be something.

I'm sure the seminary rector will be happy to let him miss out on evening prayer with the rest of the group on Friday night.  I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the seminary pulls some strings with some benefactors to charter some buses out to Virginia for the game.

Jordan Roberts definitely came from FCS. Are there a lot of others? Would love to see your list.

They also have three players that came from the "grassy knoll".  Sigh...

Whitewater did not get into the red zone, at all...

I do not like Caruso from St. Thomas.  In the first meeting with Mount Union, he seemed to seek the limelight and made himself the center of the press conferences.
I also see they went for 2 after many touchdowns which is fine, but when you are ahead 57-3, it seems a bit classless on Caruso's part.  I will give him credit for building his  program, but do not have to like the guy.  Maybe he is not the egomaniac he appeared to be, but appeared that way.

I also wonder why Tre Jones did not intercept the ball in the end zone,  looked like he had it all the way, just decided to bat it away...His presence made a difference today. He made  Hudson a non factor.

Taurice Scott stepped into the Mount "great  QB category today, IMO...

WWW kids were first class...the starters when replaced at the end (40 seconds or so) all reached across the line to shake hands with the Mount kids....So impressive...
I never saw Nemeth heading this way.  He always appeared to be a solid back, but he has become a beast.

raiderpa

Another interesting stat....
WWW had 206 yards at half...finished with 250 and change

what a D..

Certainly not the first time I've heard that observation from fans of other teams.  My perspective is biased because it's my team, but I've never seen anything from Caruso that made me thing negatively of him.  Of course, I'm willing to justify and see things through a certain lens.  Looking forward to the matchup on Friday!
