Whoa! Don't know where you're coming from, but I truly resent your initial comments.

I am a graduate of Mount Union, class of 1957 (wow, that's a long time ago). Born and raised in Alliance, we were a middle class family, white, but hardly rich. My dad worked at B&W (steel mill for those out of the area) with an 8th grade education. I paid my way through Mount by working full time in the summer and after school in the evening. I did this while many of my friends sat on their backsides and hung out in the pool rooms.

I realize this is a touchy subject, but please adopt a different attitude. After a diatribe like that, it's easy to not pay much attention to any further comments you may make. And after all, it's good to hear from everyone.

We're all Raider fans, Mount people, "townies" or any one else who roots for the Purple Raiders!
Good luck in the Stagg and Merry Christmas to all.

I have a similar story.  I couldn't afford to go to college right away (my Dad worked at Royal China in Sebring) , so I went in the Air Force and used my GI Bill to eventually graduate from Wright State  Mount was always out of my family's reach, but I've had two Alliance cousins graduate from Mount.  Sons of an auto mechanic, they received full scholarships and would not have been able to go otherwise.  My family appreciates the opportunity Mount provided them.

I just overreacted to the comment made that it's mostly townies that are the obnoxious fans that the Whitewater fans saw.  It just seemed to be saying that the obnoxious fans are not a Mount problem, but a town problem.   Why not just say that we have some obnoxious Mount fans - why single them out as townies.  It just seemed to be an unnecessary cheap shot at Alliance.  I probably shouldn't be so sensitive, especially since I've lived in Virginia since '88. .

Merry Christmas to you, too.

And I've lived in Alliance since 1990.  Raised two kids here who went through Alliance public schools--so I guess I could count as a townie too, although I am affiliated with Mount.  I wasn't trying to paint with as broad a brush as you took it to be.  There are lots of local Alliance folks that are great fans of the school and the various athletic programs.  I guess that, right or wrong, I was using the term townie in a derogatory way--kinda like "hoopy redneck".  I did not mean to imply, or for that matter, offend the entire population of the city of Alliance.  Mea Culpa!
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

HScoach

Townie might have a traditionally negative connotation, but anyone that's had the unfortunate pleasure of sitting near Jerry Hammerton and His Merry Band of Idiots over the years completely understands it's an accurate term.

Been delayed in getting back to D3, but that was a great performance by the Mount O & D lines and Logan Nemeth.  Well done.  That same effort will be needed against UST.    Also surprised by UWW's lack of play making at WR.   Big difference from the last 2 years.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Uh - mea culpa ??? Where you think your at the NCAC board? ;D I don't think anyone was really offended by the post. I know I took the term townies as simply "locals". And if it offends or not - oh well - it was locals for the most part (always 1 or 2 students tossed in for good measure) that were the source. I know I could not bring myself to boo UWW or be "that way". When those around me started booing I said to few "can't do that, to much respect".

As I said above to another poster, I overreacted.  When I went back and read your statement, you didn't broadbrush (you said most are townies or words to that effect).  Actually, I never heard the word townie when I lived in Alliance (from 54-72) and the Mount-Alliance relationship was good.  Mount let us use the 23rd Street field for flag football, opened Memorial Hall for Alliance kids to play basketball on the weekends in winter and the tennis courts were always open for anyone to use.  In addition, Mount let the Church League use the girls gym for practice and let us skate on the college lakes when they froze over.   And the most unique relationship was that the high school and college shared the same stadium.  I hope there's still a good relationship and a few obnoxious  people on either side don't ruin it.  I still don't understand why anyone but especially adults  would boo Division III athletes or their fans.  I guess I'm just getting old and will never understand that.

It is worth it. My friends suck as well and I would go but have to travel that day. Really sucks that I can't even watch it. Oh well, WRMU phone broadcast line it is.

Interesting Fact from the Game Notes Provided by MTU:

QuoteIron-Men: Three Raiders -- defensive lineman Tom Lally (Fairview Park/Lakewood St. Edward), defensive back Alex Kocheff (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) and linebacker Jonathan Gonell (Pembroke Pines, Fla./University School) -- have played in every Mount Union game since 2012 meaning that this week will be game No. 60 for each.

I also found it interesting in the same link that Mount's current run of 11 consecutive Stagg Bowls started the same year the field expanded to 32 teams 11 years ago. Who says a bye in the first round helps?

MUC57

Me again,

I'm afraid I may have been misunderstood on an earlier post. Although I have been a season ticket holder for ages, and sit in the covered stands with the other "old folks", I know full well about the "children" in the open stands. We, yes we, have tried to deal with this problem in the past, apparently to no avail. Some are people with no direct connection to Mount and, at least one, is a Mount grad. They represent an embarrassment to Mount Union, the city of Alliance and good sports fans everywhere.

Having said that, my objection was to the manner in which Alliance72 brought up the subject. I didn't care for "rich white kids against...rich white kids" and the sarcasm of "Mount blue bloods". I am sure lots, or at least some, put themselves through school as I did. That is not the point. A problem exists in the open stands which has nothing to do with "white" kids or "blue" bloods or any other color.

I hope I clarified my comments. I'm not trying to antagonize anyone. Maybe we can all work together somehow to have championship caliber fans to go with our championship caliber team!

In the meantime, GO RAIDERS!!!!
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

Well, now that "Town and Gown" seem to have made up;  is there a football game this weekend?

While I concede it would be more fun with friends, I would still urge you to go.  It's a great experience.  And there are plenty of tailgates you would be welcome to crash.

UWW has some young playmakers on the roster - the healthy ones didn't see the field for whatever reason.
The other glaring difference is the tackling. Look at the 2013 Stagg stats and compare to 2014 and 2015. 2013 was the last year of that great group of 4 linebackers.
This isn't an excuse, just something to keep in mind about optimism as it relates to St Thomas. UWW was without 2 D Linemen, one a full starter and the other rotated in half the plays. UWW isn't very big on the D Line, they rely on speed and technique and constant rotation for freshness. That didn't exist Saturday, leaving a lot of tackling to be done by 2nd and 3rd level guys that struggled w Mt's quickness.

As it relates to the Stagg, will St Thomas' D line be stronger and if not, will the LB's and DB's have the agility to tackle the speed and quickness?
I'm looking forward to watching.

Totally the way to go ... crash!!!

The first stop should be the Stone Station.  Bridgewater fanatics that kept coming back after they played the Stagg.  [Ignoring ThunderMom] the only D3 "mom" that surpasses me.

Introduce yourself to anyone tail-gaiting and you may find a friend for life.

Actually the "crash" was tongue-in-cheek as my desktop crashed as I hit the OAC website

purple

As I was walking into the stadium several of the guys who wear the purple suits were behind me. One or two were particularly profane, using the F... word a lot, very loud, using it in conjunction with WWW. Then the S... word a lot, very loudly again in conjunction with WWW. I think I've seen every WWW vs MU game and the WWW fans have been nothing if not gracious and classy, like their players on the field have been and like their coaches. I could see a nice lady and her young daughter were walking near me and mom seemed chagrined for her daughter, so I turned to the purple suits and said , in my most menacing lawyer "TRY ME" voice to "watch your language." They shut up.  I don't think there another MU quarterback I would take to start the Stagg game over Scott, even The Great Number 7.
