That's a long way from Alliance.  Would that we the first kid from WA?  I don't recall seeing any over the years, but that doesn't mean anything.

I was thinking the same thing.  I recall reading that Taran grew up in a military family and moved around a bit so the distance from Washington to Alliance probably won't be much of an issue.  When I went back to confirm my recollection about military family I reread a personnel message he had posted on a recruiting site and found it again to be impressive.  I share it below.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

As a child of two military parents, I was taught the values of being respectful, responsible, self disciplined and the value of an education.  I have played football since I was 5 years old.  Playing team sports all of my life and being coached by my parents have truly taught me that a team is only as strong as its weakest player and everyone must do their job in order for the team to succeed.

If I play for your college I will bring these same values and work hard every day to make the team and the school better than when I arrived.  My goals for college are to be a smart and impactful football player and to receive my Bachelors degree in history and political science and to one day be a history professor.

I attended four high schools in four years and in two different states (Mississippi and Washington) due to my parents military obligation.  I started as an outside linebacker in my freshman year in Pass Christian, MS and led the team in tackles.  I continued to play outside linebacker and receiver in my junior year receiving conference honorable mention as a linebacker.  Now, I am a strong safety and a running back.  I average 10 tackles per game and 9 yards per carry.  I am a physical and smart player with long arms, speed (4.54 40 yard dash speed), and I absolutely love to hit.  I have a high football IQ from playing at an early age and being coached by my dad.

Thank you for reading my statement and I hope you give me the opportunity to play for your university.

Sincerely,

Taran Lambert

Since it's the first week of spring ball, I took a look at the spring roster. I didn't see many LBers. I thought the sophomore class had lots of them. Does anyone know if it's incorrect or if that many players truly aren't coming back? I remember some very good hs players in that class.

Where did you see the Mount Union spring roster? I have not seen it yet. Is it online?

Looking at the Roster, it appears that they have updated their 'Year' to the Fall 2016 Year.

Fr. - 1 (Luke Poorman, QB from FL)
So. - 10 (No names stick out to me)
Jr. - 49 (Biggest Class)
Sr. - 28

I wonder if they restrict the # of underclassmen invited to participate in Spring Practice?

As far as LB, only 6 that I found on the Spring Roster.  They do run a 4-2-5 (Sometimes 4-3) Defense so maybe some of the OLB types are listed as DBs?

Looking at the 2016 Schedule (http://athletics.mountunion.edu/sports/fball/2016-17/schedule) it looks like this is another year of only 4 Home Games.

I understand it is hard to find that One Non Conference Team to play MTU week 1 (or 2), but must be harder to find one that will give MTU the Home game on a year so that they can have 5/5 Home/Away games each year.

Seems to be the pattern lately with the Non-Con opponents.

The last time we went consecutive years with 5/5 Home/Away games was 2008-2009 when the Non-Con Opponent was St. John Fisher.

Just checked the Future Schedules and in 2018/19 (Rose Hulman) and 2020/21 (Westminster) MTU will have 5/5 Home/Away games.

Only 177 days until the Mount season kicks off! Is it just me or is the BW game a bit early in schedule?

The thing that's odd is that 2016 sophomores who should be listed such as Matt Lowry or Grant Klaver are not on that roster.  I find it hard to believe that the freshman QB who played varsity mop up and the freshman QB who started on JV are not participating in spring ball.  I would think those two are in the thick of the QB competition.

The names I feel like they're missing for LB are (or at least I hope so) Robinson from Massillon, Greiser from Florida, the VA LBer and more. I just checked some of the mentioned names on Twitter and they all still have Mount Union stuff all over their pages. It looks like UMU just didn't put them on the spring roster for some reason. But my question is why leave those guys off and put the freshman from Florida on the spring roster?

According to Joe Scalzo of the Rep Namdar, Scott, Jones, Kocheff, Lally, Frank and Nemeth all worked out at the Akron pro day.

Mount Union has updated their spring roster, so now it looks more current, for anyone interested.

The only Raider that I think has a legit chance of making an NFL roster is Jones. I don't think Namdar is physical enough, even though his speed and hands are good. I'd love to see Scott have a chance at WR again with his quickness, but his ball security was always a question. Lally is the last one that I think could make a roster bc he's so quick and good with his hands, but I'm not sure that his quickness is enough to play DE at only 260lbs or fast enough to play a rush end.

The other guys were great college D3 players that I thoroughly enjoyed watching, just not athletic enough for the NFL. Kocheff wasn't good enough in coverage and with his size, he had a difficult time covering tall tight ends and WRs. Frank was very good, but it's extremely difficult to make the jump from blocking D3 players to NFL specimen. The D3 olinemen that have made it are total standouts. Nemeth was a joy to watch play and I loved his style of running, I just think his measureables would have to be outstanding to really even get a look.

I don't blame any of these guys for giving it a last shot, that way they don't question 10 years down the road whether they could've made it. All it takes is one scout who thinks you can contribute!

LK personally recruited Luke Poorman who graduated early from HS and enrolled at Mount in early January. I'm looking forward to seeing how Luke progresses at Alliance.

4 Home games in regular season and hopefully 4 home games in playoffs.
