For those younguns that weren't around to see Adam Marino in person,  he was a stud.   Didn't have the NFL speed of Garcon or Shorts to rely on,  but he caught everything.    And ran the absolute best routes I've ever seen.   He was always open, it was just a matter of whether the QB wanted to throw him the ball.   The only other Mount receiver I put in his category from a technical standpoint is Ed Bubonics.   Both of those guys were assassins.

If anyone needs to kill some time during lunch Mount has the freshmen roster up already.  The 150 number floated out there was a little high.  They did end up with 140 reporting though.  It looks like they really hit MI hard in recruiting this year.

Freshmen by position:

DB--21
DL--26
K--5
LB--20
OL--24
QB--10
RB--9
WR--25

Freshmen by home state:

OH--55
FL--22
MI--16
PA--12
GA--7
IN--6
CA, VA--4
MD, NY, TX--2
KY, ME, NC, NJ, OK, OR, TN, WA--1

Those are impressive numbers. Does anyone know how these compare to the other schools in the OAC?

Anyone that isn't familiar with Marino or Smeck should at least check out the 1998 Stagg Bowl highlights.  I know someone on here always says that the 98 team is LK's best coaching job.  That offense was the definition of "next man up" fueled by a lot of guys who were not big parts in 97.

Thanks for crunching the numbers! So far from looking at the freshmen, there are some playmakers for sure. I really like the group of QBs, WRs, linebackers and dlinemen as a whole. There were some olinemen that looked nasty, but they'll need to learn to be more technical and get leverage.

Of the schools that have 2016 rosters up now they are by far the biggest freshmen class.

No question - Adam Marino was great. And I think Smeck is one of the "Mount Rushmore" ignored QBs. Both were great. I always like Knapp as a route runner.

Ok so let's create a true Mount Rushmore of Mount players.

Ink Ballard is there kind of like our George Washington.
Borchert?, Kmic? and who would be the fourth and final one?

Can't overlook the D - Jason Hall? Buddy Wolfe? Lally, Kern - Tony DeRiggi for the "Mount Rushmore - Arms only"?

My thought is that Mount Rushmore is more than great players - they sort of define Mount Union Football and are all-time greats (at Mount and nationally as well). Mine would be:

LK - without him....who knows.
Kmic - all divisions rushing, TDs in a season (career?)
Ballard - sentimental favorite because he was the first QB to go all the way (but Borchert may be better)
Jason Hall - set records at Mount that won't be broken anytime soon (takles in season, career)

Arguments could be made for others. Left Garcon and Shorts off because they didn't set national records - though they could have playing 4 quarters.

Could be. Could it be 18 returning, 18 seniors.....18 players....total??? I thought it was a bit low but decided it may actually be spot on with their coaching issues.

That's all I counted.  The roster may not be final, but they have a 2016 roster up with some freshmen so I included them.

They had a coaching change at a very inconvenient time for bringing in new freshmen.  All communication during the winter/spring had come from the previous head coach.  Add to that the assumption that the new coach will look to install a different offense, it probably explains the low numbers.
