Scrimmage at W&J tomorrow morning.  Too bad it's not in Alliance since this is definitely a year where seeing the scrimmage would be very interesting.

I would love to see the scrimmage - but it is a bit of a drive. I think Peyakov gets the nod at QB. I know he is a Senior and it would make sense to have a younger QB grow with the O for the next 2 seasons but here is my reasoning. He is the least mobile and mobility at QB may not be needed this year. Both RB's are outside edge guys - and wicked quick. With an experienced interior line that should be able to hold a pocket Peyakov makes sense. My .02 cents. Anyone heading to the scrimmage feel free to chime in after/during.

After several year layoff from OAC board participation, I noticed the discussion of what MUC players should be on 'Mount' Rushmore. A dozen, or so, candidates have been mentioned with thoughtful support.

Mount Rushmore (South Dakota) memorializes four US Presidents and should be frozen at four! It has been suggested that Mount Union's Rushmore should, also, be limited to four.

Making up for lost time on the board, I suggest an alternate name to honor Mount Union's greatest players. To avoid confusion, between Rushmore's, the name could be the MUC Rushmore.

At my age, I've earned the right to speak out.

Further, MUC Rushmore should not be limited to four players because Mount Rushmore has a limit of four. MUC Rushmore has a plethora of potential candidates. The  abundance of candidates, for MUC Rushmore may suggest 'doubling down' to eight candidates - easy. Tripling down to twelve - also easy. Perhaps, beyond twelve gets problematic with arguing for anyone's favorite player (son?) in play. Expanding any limit could present a classic OAC debate.

Allowing that I began watching the Purple Raiders during Duke Barret's tenure; failing memory unfortunately will omit worthy candidates for:

MUC Rushmore (sorted alphabetically by category)
Larry Kehres, first and foremost. And, as someone pointed out, he was a player.
Ken Wable, at a minimum, shared in the genesis of the Purple Reign with LK.
    Quarterbacks;
        Jim Ballard
        Bill Borchert
        Greg Micheli
    Running Backs:
        Nate Kmic
        Chuck Moore
        Dan Pugh
    Receivers:
        Ed Bubonics
        Adam Marino
        CSIII
OL: see MUC Rushmore - O below.
Defense: and see MUC Rushmore - D below.
        Nick Driskill
        Jason Hall
        Tom Lally
        Hank Spencer

Gee, that's 15; for present purposes only, we'll set LK and Ken aside. Now, we have a Baker's Dozen.

What about OL? We need place for such as; Larry Kinnard, Derick Blanchard, Eric Safron and many more may belong in MUC Rushmore - O?

    MUC Rushmore - O?

Defense? DB Bill Davis, DE Mike Hallet, ILB Jason Hall, DB Kris Bugara, DE Matt Campbell, CB Kris Kern, DB Matt Kostelnik, DL Lambert Budzinske, DL Charles Dieuseul and more can go into MUC Rushmore -D?

    MUC Rushmore - D?

Needed are appropriate means of incorporating LK and Ken Wable; plus special team players and kickers, of whom there are 'Good and Plenty' candidates for the MUC Rushmore's. Field Goal, Extra Point, Kickoff and Punt Returns?

I appreciate the pic's by desert raider, coach and Kira and Jaxon's Dad and others.

Larry Kinnard doesn't belong in a list of greatest ever.

Who was the MTU LB in the mid-late 2000s who had biceps like volleyballs?

Also can't forget Charles Dieuseul.

Tony DeRiggi?  That'd be my guess.  One of my buddies had never been to a D3 game and came with me when they played at Cap.  I think he was expecting high school sized kids.  He saw DeRiggi warming up and said "Who's that dude who looks like he can lift the front end of an Escalade?!"

I googled Tony and found that after his career at Mount Union he came back and coached a year before moving on to body building. It looks like Tony excelled in body building.

Yep it was DeRiggi.  Saw him at the Stagg bowl the year after he graduated. Still was huge.

I just watched a highschool game on tv and Solon had a QB named Joe Bubonics who looked pretty good. I understand Mount Union alum Ed Bubonics teaches in the Solon system. If thats his son then Joe inherited Eds speed. Assuming Joes actually is his kid. Dont know for sure. Maybe we will see the kid in Mounts stadium some day.

Raiderfan,

Thanks. Joe Bubonics is Senior QB/DB, 5-9 170#; as you suspected, Joe is son of Ed Bubonics, Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers, Solon High School.
I hope he does bring dad's speed to MUC.

With apology, I should have said, "Joe seems to be son of Ed Bubonics...". But, I'll bet on that.
