I'm very excited for the talent in this years freshman class and WR overall.  I'm telling you, these WRs are good. They need to keep working, but could be a handful. Check out this highlight catch from the WJ scrimmage from freshman Justin Hill.

Thanks hsbsballcoach. That was awesomtacular!' Justin Hill, gotta remember that.

Onward on, John Carroll

JCU names Moeglin as their starter.  HE was out last year recovering from, I believe, shoulder surgery, and is the brother of the former BW QB by the same last name.

Nice preview of Saturday's game in the News-Herald:
http://www.news-herald.com/article/HR/20160830/SPORTS/160839940

The article states that JCU will make this a three day trip, leaving Thursday and staying overnight in Chicago and practicing at Soldier Field on Friday.

JCU apparently had D1 transfers in line including:  Running back Sam Kukura (Kirtland) from Kent State, Running back Khari Anderson (Hawken) from Pittsburgh, Defensive back Kiyah Powell (Mentor) from Duquesne and Wide receiver Luke Vadas (University) from Penn State.  But looking at the roster, it seems that Anderson and Powell quit or did not report to camp.

First collegiate start is on the road at UWO.  Welcome to college football!

Thanks for sharing the preview article. I love the bluntness of UWO coach Cerroni.
This is really an intriguing matchup and I hope it leads to other non con arrangements between the conferences.

I may have to sneak into Soldier Field for some pre game scouting...nah, let UWO fend for themselves.
Good luck and safe travels.

I shudder to think what is going to happen to JCU at WOC. They are so much bigger and stronger.

^  I expect it to look pretty much the same as the average Mount game looks like.   Close for a while, but not nearly enough to win it.   Expecially with a new QB.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I think JCU will give them everything they can handle.  Possibly even pull an upset.  Would be great for the OAC if they could pull it off.

Hello D-III brethren!  SS reporting in here.  I have been out of touch due to major life changes in the SS household.  Selling the house, moved into a new pad, and started a new job.  I am way too old for this crap!

Anyway, a certain little voice informs me that we very well may see a freshman at the QB helm this year.

I think we are in for an interesting, and entertaining year with the Purple Raiders.

Carry on!

Dr. Acula

If that's true that'd be huge news.  When was the last time a frosh started at QB?  I'm almost positive it's never happened from Ballard on so at least 25 years?  One of the old guard will have to let us know.

Oh, and congrats on the new job, SS!  And +K for surviving the move.  I moved myself a couple times right after graduation.  Never again.  I've paid someone to do it every time since!  Brutal.

I'll echo this.  My assumption is that UWO is big and physical like a normal WIAC squad.  I think the JCU defense hangs tough and keeps it close, but gets worn down in the 2nd half.

I THOUGHT BORCHERT WAS A TRUE FRESH?

Dr. Acula

Maybe he did?  I have no idea who started in '94.  I just knew he started '95-'97.

One player to keep an eye on is the UW-O QB, Brett Kasper, who threw for almost 3,000 yards and 27 TD (6 INT) last year as a freshman.  Baring the unforeseen I think he's going to be very, very good by the time he graduates.

The Mount website lists Ballard in 93 with Sinning also as a QB. The stats in 94 are for rushing and all purpose but no passing stats or players listed. 1995 has Borchert as does 96 and 97. I aint a math guy but if Bill played 4 years at Mount and graduated after 97 season (since Smeck started in 98) then I would say he may have played as a true Freshman in 94 (he certainly would have been on the roster). Where's Raider68?
