I just saw that the Texans released Cecil Shorts. Too bad. Outstanding WR and a terrific kid/young man (keep in mind - he was a kid when he was in my class and is young when compared to...well most of us on here). I am sure it is due to the injury bug he seems to get hit with as the other WR (Hopkins included) have given him high praise in what I have read. Now....Steelers (ATTENTION!!!!) call Cecil's agent!! Think Hines Ward.

And with that run, the 1930 Mount Union team is off the hook.

They no longer hold the record of most yards (718) given up to an Ohio State team.

And what I thought that I heard the announcer say, or words to the effect, "Mount Union is now gone and forgotten."

But not real announcers...just Ohio State announcers - they only play announcers on TV ;D

Congrats to Wesley's own Joe Callahan on making the Packers 53 man roster. Not many have gone from DIII QB to undrafted FA to the 53 final roster. Congrats.

A couple of close E8/OAC games today.  I personally enjoy when these two conferences matchup against each other.  I especially like it when it is Fisher vs not Mount Union.

There has been talk on our boards recently about an E8 vs LL challenge.  It would also be cool if there were an E8 and OAC one.  Smart thing to do (from an E8 perspective) would be to sacrifice our bottom feeding team at the UMU alter and then have the rest of the teams matchup relative to strength within their respective conference.  There would be some fun matchups.  Like a Fisher/JCU rematch perhaps.  Cortland vs Heidelberg which actually bore out today, etc.

Actually the E8 currently has 9 teams and OAC has 10.  So in this hypothetical scenario we will just excuse Mount Union entirely  ;)

They like their first week bye anyway.

Packers still have 1 cut to make. The 53 as it stands now doesn't include a long snapper.

QuoteEvery player near the bottom of the roster can ill afford to relax because the Packers were without a long snapper after waiving Rick Lovato. According to the NFL personnel release, Brett Goode was in Green Bay for a tryout Saturday.

Goode, 31, underwent reconstructive knee surgery Dec. 28. If the Packers determine he can play slightly more than eight months after surgery, there's little doubt he will be signed. If not, a candidate might be rookie free agent Ryan DiSalvo, who worked out in Green Bay on Wednesday after snapping in three exhibition games for Miami. One NFL scout said DiSalvo was impressive this summer.

Either way, the Packers would need to cut a player to add a long snapper. One personnel man said the Packers hoped to buy time by delaying the roster move until maybe Tuesday in order to sneak a player onto the practice squad because most teams would then be content with their rosters and less likely to make a waiver claim.

Unfortunately, sounds like it might be the third QB. Only time will tell.

The article clearly states: "Besides Evans, the undrafted rookies on the 53 were fellow safety Kentrell Brice, cornerbacks Josh Hawkins and Makinton Dorleant, running back Brandon Burks and quarterback Joe Callahan."

The roster deadline was yesterday at 3 and I posted that last night at 9. I know it can change - BUT Joe Callahan made the 53 man roster. Period. So again a huge Congrats to Joe Callahan.

Week #1 results of the OAC Pick-Em have been posted.

Sir Battlescars took the top spot in our opening week, correctly picking winners on 11 of the 15 games.  One point behind was the triumvirate of smedindy, FCGrizzliesGrad, and a newcomer - professional spread-maker, HansenRatings[No pressure, there!]   :P

Welcome aboard newcomers JCUStreaks70, matblake, waxx, and the aforementioned HansenRatings.

Spreads for Week #2 will come out Monday night.

OSU and Mount Union only played once with the only game being the season opener in 1930.

Mount Unions single game record for total yards is  755 vs. Marietta in 2005, but probably more impressive is Mount Unions record for Fewest Yards Allowed which they set in 2007 against John Carroll when they gave up -2 yards.

NC Wesleyan's QB threw 6 interceptions Saturday against Stevenson.  I don't feel like that's a good sign of things to come for this Saturday.

Completely unrelated...I saw that Wesley lost and was surprised so I had to look at the box score.  I saw a familiar name in there...Dashawn Darden.  He's Del Val's QB.  He was at Mount at one point.  He had a nice game going 16-26 for 214 a passing TD and a rushing TD.  Hope he does well there.

Got them out of his system, maybe?  ;)

Looking at all the OAC scores from this past weekend, it appears NC Wesleyan will be an excellent barometer as to how the Raiders can be expected to stack up in the OAC title hunt this year.

Week 2 OAC Pick-Em spreads have been posted.

Sorry for working you so hard last week.  Only ten games this week.  And no early games.

Please get your picks in before the first kick-off on Saturday!  Choose well!

Sir Battlescars

Rough start for the OAC going 2 - 6 this weekend. It's too bad Heidelberg and Otterbein weren't able to pull off wins in those two close games verses solid opponents.
