Is there a huge swell of genuine Mount Union dislike out there or this an invented thing here?  Like when teams play the "nobody believed in us" card even when literally everybody believed in them.  I don't think most people think this way about Mount Union.  Personally, I view Mount Union as the goal.  That's the thing D-III teams should want to be.  Sometimes I thought Pierre's act was probably a bit much at times which annoyed me, but outside of a few of those instances, I don't really know how you make a villain out of Mount Union and the Kehres dynasty.

Same here.  Without LK, there would be no Whitewater in their current form.  They have caused all their playoff opponents to strive to get better and there is some residual effect from that on some teams that have played a Wesley or Mary Hardin-Baylor or Whitewater (looking at Franklin).

Mount Union has helped advance Division 3 football to where it is today.

How could you hate that?

I gave this statement some thought and it poses a great question. I have hard time deciding, one way or the other, if Whitewater would be where they are without LK. I know Whitewater scheduled Mount 13-14 years ago so they can see first-hand what a champion looks like. But it wasn't just Mount Union they observed....Berezowitz also scheduled powerhouse St. John's (Gagliardi should get credit as well?) along with some good NAIA teams back in the day to gain some perspective.

I think LK helped to some extent, but there were other factors involved to Whitewater's success. Say after 2005, if Mount's program had a setback and failed to reach the Stagg Bowl going forward (easy Mount fans...this is hypothetical), I have a hard time believing the ripple effect would derail UWW's program as well. I think UWW was on their way to greatness with or without LK and Mount Union once UWW became a power 10+ years ago.

This makes for a good conversation though.

O2 Warhawk,

You acknowledge that Berezowitz scheduled Mount years ago, so they could see what a champion looks like. Did LK play a role in scheduling the '1 & 1'? Several years prior to the home and home, I recall reading that LK hosted Berezowitz at Mount Union (and maybe the 'hood, as well). That gave Coach Berezowitz an opportunity to watch and learn from the man. Does LK get any extra credit for that class act? Ric and HScoach can likely confirm the get together at Mount Union.

As I recall Coach Berezowitz spoke about contacting Mount and spending time with the Coaches and staff prior to the 1st (maybe the 2nd) Stagg Bowl. People seem to think Mount people are saying "schedule Mount - look what happened to UWW" and that isn't it. UWW and Bob went out of their way to see what Mount did that was different. Not saying LK built UWW - Berezowitz still had to make it work. And he did. Also, not saying UWW was nothing before LKs influence. They were a good team seeking the next level. They made it. I am sure a number of staffs have spoken to Mount (didn't Averett a few years back head to Mount?) but have not had the success.

That pretty much how I understand it as well.

But like I said before, other programs were observed as well during that time frame...not just Mount. St. John's was scheduled and one or two other good NAIA teams too (St. Xavier). However, I'm not sure to what extent Gagliardi did to advise Berezwoitz (if he did at all).

Question.
If the WIAC winner, St Thomas, UMHB and Mt all go 10-0, who are the top 2?

Granted I have a horse in this race but my vote would be Mount #1 and Tommies#2. Mount should be #1 regardless until they have something in the loss column besides a 0 - and they are the defending National Champ. Hard to move them out if they remain undefeated. I say Tommies #2 for the same reason (minus the "defending National Champion of course).

Top 2 for what purpose? If for the sake of D3football.com rankings, I'd give it to Mount Union and the WIAC winner.

For the sake of playoffs (and homefield advantage), I think it would be Mount and St Thomas, because of previously established criterion.

Sorry. For the purpose of home field in the playoffs.
Maybe I should ask how us as posters would seed them and then how we think the committee will seed them.

Probably Mount Union and St. Thomas, but we would need to see all of the data to say for sure.  Mount Union is probably immune, but St. Thomas might be able to get jumped by UMHB depending on potential advantages UMHB has with SOS and RRO results.  No way to know until we start to see the regional rankings and the SOS table gets less fluid.

Not a whole lot of defense going on.  UMU has 164 yards in the first quarter; ONU has 200!   ???

Odd game thus far. ONU has thrown the ball well and been in the redzone I believe 3 times. Raider held on 2 and got a 100yd int return oon another. As I write this ONU throws another int. Raider D has given up some BIG pass plays. It is a definite weakness.

Wow. Another interception for the Raiders. 3 INTs and not even 4 MINs in to 2nd quarter.
