Dr. Acula

I watched most of the game today (I missed the beginning of the 3rd).  Thoughts on what I did see:

First, kudos to Cap on the video feed.  High quality stream, replays, multiple cameras and the duo calling the game did a very nice job.  Not your typical student announcers.  Very professional.  I was very, very impressed with the entire production.  To be honest, I was jealous!  We should have something like that, but I won't beat that dead horse.

Welcome to the party Dom Davis.  It sounds like Fulford is out.  I thought I saw him with a sling on today.  Poorman is banged up evidently.  Well, Davis certainly caught my eye today.  He looked like he'd been playing since day 1.  I was very impressed overall, but specifically with his ability to escape the rush and throw it.  He also adds the read option threat more so than the other two guys.  As was mentioned he did throw a bad pick on that under throw.  His other pick was a tipped ball.  And he threw for over 300 yds and 4 scores.  I'm officially intrigued.  If Poorman is healthy next week I still expect to see Davis rotating in.

I thought the D line played well today.  They got good pressure.  All of them made plays in the backfield.  And in addition, when the subs came in I saw Tre Reid making some plays at DT too.  All around good effort from them.

The pass defense was definitely the concern again today, but after a slow start (Wibbeler threw for over 100 yds in the 1st) they settled in.  I think part of that credit goes to the D line since the pressure was turned up.  No Louis Berry again today.  The luxury of the OAC being down is there's no need to rush anyone back.

Hat tip to Friss.  He stepped in and played great today.  Put up some big numbers.  Hill also flashed again today.  He definitely seems like he could develop into a big play threat.  Kennedy, Friss and Hill all got deep today.  I won't celebrate though since Cap's defense is not exactly the '85 Bears.

Overall I think they're making progress, especially on D.  They're getting better each week.  With all the new starters that's all you can ask.  As they learn to play together they should improve and they are.  And I like the tone that Groves sets at safety with his physicality.  He lays the lumber, man.  He hits like a LB.

JCU - Ohio Northern is live streaming right now and is 6-6 after the first quarter.  (I think.)

HUGE props to Nick Peyakov.  Some guys in this world would have quit.

Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Ohio Northern's blowout loss to Heidelberg looking more and more curious.

Sorry about the JCU report. I got that info from the CAP post game show. I might have misunderstood what they reported. About the prospect of student broadcasts hurting Raider gate sales, I can say this, I havent been to CAP stadium since they went online. That has more to do with parking and stadium seating than anything else. The economy isnt bad enough to keep me from seeing a game I really want to see.

I suspect the Mount decision isn't about games fans really want to see up close.  It's about all the other games.  (I.E. most.)

I missed the Capital coaching change.  What happened to the Naval Academy guy that was coaching them?

I heard he left under "less than honorable" (not dishonorable mind you) conditions - but couldn't find anything on it. Not saying he did anything illegal or immoral but it appears he pissed off some boosters/alums. If anybody knows more - do tell.

He left to take an assistant job at Ga Tech.  I don't think he did anything wrong or dishonorable... he went to work for the coach he played for, he got a pay raise, he GA'ed at Tech so he was familiar with the school, and he is from Florida so he's a lot closer to home and family than he was in Ohio.  I can't fault him...however I think the issue (as I've heard through the grapevine) is that he didn't tell Cap he was looking, and didn't give them much notice when he left, and the timing was horrible was it was right at the peak of D3 recruiting season.  Several commits backed out and during the lag while looking for a new coach most good prospects were scooped up by other teams, hence the extremely small freshman class this year.

And in other Ohio football news the question before the house is (STILL is):  Can J. T. Barrett throw the ball well enough to win a national title?

I never said he did anything wrong or dishonorable. I said "less than honorable" which covers everything from a 12-26 record (I think that is what he was) to not telling them he was looking, to alums not being happy (as I have heard).

In other Ohio football news: JT who? Mounts third stringer looked great today but his name isn't JT whatever he is. ;D 8-) Now then, back to DIII football!

So Mount fans, who is the QB next week? Just watched the game and I have to admit that Davis looked pretty darn good. Throws a nice ball and stayed pretty composed. I think he has shown the most ability to throw short and long and really improvised well when he needed to. Defense bent but never broke. Groves was really good today and the line got good pressure all day. Didn't care for the three holding penalties on the wideouts and thought a few guys need to go get the ball alittle more aggressively, but offense clicked in the first and third quarters.

Dom Davis needs to throw the ball deep in a manner that the defender is definately overthrown but the intended reciever is not. Other than that he played very well

My guess is Poorman if he's healthy, if not Davis.  I think Fulford may be out longer.  Davis will get time even if Poorman starts.

The fact that Dom Davis came in and lit it up, especially for a freshman in his first start shows how sick Mount's depth is against the conference.
