Gents...polar bears had the ball with 5 minutes left with a chance to win the game...were u watching the buckeye game instead of good d3 football? This polar bear bunch has made too many penalties and turnovers to win close games at the end like the bears did last year
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

And in other Ohio football news the question before the house is (STILL is):  Can J. T. Barrett throw the ball well enough to win a national title?
edward,

You should have known this post would cause an odor on a D3 board.  :D

The fact that Dom Davis came in and lit it up, especially for a freshman in his first start shows how sick Mount's depth is against the conference.

Very true.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

<G> I had OSU on the Telly and the Polar Bears on the computer.  Agree ... too many mistakes at the end.

Week #7 results of the 2016 OAC Pick-Em have been posted.

My arch-nemesis, Grizz, has finally shown up to play.  FCGrizzliesGrad takes his first week with 11 of the potential 15 points, one clear of bleedpurple.

Unfortunately, I dragged Sir Battlescars down to my level as we were two of the five folks with only two points this week.  Our new leader is  The Computer That Wore Tennis Shoes, aka HansenRatings.

Week #8 spreads come out Monday night.

Did ONU fans see Saturday's game? I saw Williams had a great 1st half with around a 100 yards rushing, but I am not sure anything else about the game. Thanks!
Go Lady Polar Bears! Beat Mount Union!!

VK knows more about QBs than I do, and more than I ever will. And LK - no doubt knows QBs. I know CAPs D isn't exactly world beaters, but I recall reading an article where VK states that Poorman and Fulford were further along than Dom Davis. I believe he said something to the effect that Davis "isn't there yet". I hate to disagree - but I saw more from Davis on Sat than I have seen from either Poorman or Fulford. He showed poise coming back from the INT in the endzone. Showed pocket presence and ability to step out of pressure. He looked good from my vantage point. As was stated earlier: CAPs D isn't the 85 Bears. But I think Davis not only earned playing time - he earned second in the rotation if they continue the 2 QB system. He needs to work on ball security (but the fumble on the edge rush - dude he got hammered before he even finished his drop) but I like what I saw.

That's it. I have tried everything: logic, emotion, common sense - heck I even resorted this past week to blatantly copying Sir Battlescars picks - all in an effort to get back in it. Nope - this happened to be the week that Sir bottomed out. I am now going to try the tried and true - coinflip! Wow - 2 points!

I agree with desertraider.  Kid earned a shot to keep playing.  He did something that neither of the other two did very well, and that was to extend plays.  He had a couple of times where he got flushed but still kept his head up and threw downfield.  Both of the other guys had a tendency to tuck and run when the heat was on and that doesn't work for very long, witness the fact they both got hurt running the ball.  I also think that Davis played on a high school team that played alot of quality opponents, so his body of work came against some pretty good teams.  Nothing against Florida football, but I've seen some of it and it's not northern Ohio quality.

I agree with some of this BUT let's remember that Poorman and Fulford were 1/2 for a reason. All 3 QBs have had some really good moments but struggled with ball security at times. Anyone remember the last time a Mount QB put the ball on the turf this many times? High school has nothing to do with it. Kevin Burke was a backup for a reason when he got to Mount. He came out of St Eds and the competition doesn't get much tougher than that. But when you hit college - it is the reset button. Nothing before that really matters. Having said that - Davis has earned his stripes and I think he will get more time.

The Qb drama will play its way out. They all can do the job, Peyakoff included. Im more interested in the runningback situation. Its a shame to make anyone of them watch. We still need to find that downhill runner for the playoffs. Can this line dominate late in the season? Theres still room to grow there. My real concern is the pass D needs to progress more than any other unit. If the playoffs started this Saturday would we go very far as is? Will youth be the determining factor ultimately?

raiderpa

To have three quality QB's to choose from is a luxury that very few teams have.  I liked Poorman over Fulford, but thought Fulford could be transitioned to another position where he could make an impact.  Davis showed he has good stuff and from my perspective  threw a few passes that would have been better tossed away or eaten.  Youth.
I agree that RB is a position of concern.  Mitchell provides no inside power at all and Aaron is decent, but not the quality Mount is used to having.
Also, the dominant DT's that Mount has been blessed with are missing, although Mihoci has shown a real plus side.
Great DT's have made the pass defense look better than it may have been.
Playoffs??  I do not see Mount surviving the semi's...last year's Wesley would beat us this year, in my opinion...
Playoffs depend on the matchups and team strengths...

Dr. Acula

I wouldn't be surprised to see continued shifts in how we'd slot the QB's.  We're dealing with freshmen.  These kids are learning and adjusting at different rates.  Poorman should be a little ahead.  He was there for spring ball.  All that matters is who's the best by Thanksgiving.

desertraider, I believe coin-flips might not be a bad idea, as I can't make heads or tails out of the OAC this year!
