Davis looked good again today.  9-13, 204 yds, 3 TD.  Poorman in now and leads a TD drive.

Dr. Acula,

Agree in part, a fumble  (resulting in a TD for Wilmington) and almost a pick did not help.  Also, so many receivers open and could not find them. IMHO, I am not sure why Poorman is now a back-up, since he was very good against the Berg.? :-\

What??  I can't reconcile how we watched a game where a guy completes 70% of his passes, averages over 22 yds on those completions...but can't find any open receivers?

And for the record, you only partially agree that he played well because he ALMOST threw an interception and there was a fumbled exchange on a read option?  Man, I know we get accused of having unrealistic expectations by outsiders, but in this case even I think we do if that's the bar.

IMO the answer to your Poorman question seems simple.  Davis has twice as many 20+ yd completions already than Poorman has all year.  I went back and looked at the play-by-play of every game.  Poorman has 6 completions over 20 yards out of 62 attempts.  Davis has 12 on 46 attempts.  And while Poorman is very accurate (71%) it's not like he's blowing Davis away on that either (67%).  Throw in the fact that Davis is probably the best runner of the 3 too.  I continue to expect the QB thing to ebb and flow week-to-week.  We're still dealing with freshmen.  I just assume they're both going to have good weeks and bad weeks in practice that may translate into playing time on Saturdays.

Dr. Acula

A few other stray thoughts from yesterday:

Not sure if Hargrove is hurt, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to take Friss off the field when Hargrove comes back.  Friss is making plays.

Justin Hill is going to be a star.  He makes catches that just make you shake your head.  And he has the speed to get deep and the size to be physical.

I mentioned Reid making some plays at DT when he got in last week.  A couple other freshmen that played and looked good this week were Sanders and Hall at LB and Evans at CB.  Evans came in when Sullins left with an injury and he made a couple nice plays to breakup passes.  Morris also played at CB and had a pick 6.  They've got some young talent on the defense.  Just need to find some young DL too.

Robinson had another pick 6.  That kid just has a nose for the ball.  I was worried about the LBs with Spencer and Gonell gone, but Dear and Robinson have played well.

Negatives from yesterday were penalties.  They had a couple drives that were just total messes due to multiple flags on a series.  Also fumbles.  Davis/Mitchell put it on the ground on a read option.  Nero coughed it up too.  It's hard to judge too much against Wilm.  You just want to get in and get out without injuries.

Agree, I did not do a comparison for passes over 20 yards as you did. As I said I hope they all do well and they all
lead the Raiders. My original comment was why Poorman did not receive a snaps against Capital. If he was hurt then
that is the answer, plus Davis had a good game and deserved to start against Wilmington.

I think the radio guys mentioned that Poorman had a dinged up shoulder from the Berg game.  That was why Davis started against Cap I believe.  I was surprised they didn't rotate yesterday like Poorman and Fulford did earlier.

From what I have heard (my sources aren't as good as some others on this board) both Poorman and Fulford were injured vs. Heidelberg.

I heard Fulford broke collarbone and is out for extended period of time.  Not sure on what Poorman's injury is/was.

Davis got the start and all the snaps vs. Capital and played well.

Davis got the start again vs Wilmington and then Poorman got some PT.  I suspect Poorman is recovering.  Also, if Fulford is out indefinitely, then it makes sense to get Davis more snaps so that he can be ready if Poorman isn't 100% healthy as the season moves along.

Since none of the 3 has convinced the Coaching Staff that they are the clear #1QB, give the healthy ones time so that they can all be ready.

The good news about the QB situation is that it bodes well for now and the future.  How many times do we see a qb go down and folks panic because they are not sure about the next man up and whether he can carry his weight and not hurt the team.  For the first time in a while, I do not worry about it.  Mount has a very good situation and VK is making sure whomever is in there can carry out the game plan by giving everyone a piece of the playing time.
I think Mount fans are getting used to the fact that all the guys that have played can get the best out of the offense.

My only concern on the QBs is keeping them. Mount has 5 QBs on the roster that could start at most places, and 3 of them could probably start anywhere. Peyakov is a SR so he is graduating but that leaves Fulford, Davis, Poorman and Lowry. How do you keep them all, especially if they want to be a QB and not a WR or something else?

Look at the picture of the CRU defender on the front page for the podcast. Please tell me it was a penalty for targeting. That looks about as blatant as you can get.

QuoteThe Purple Raiders were well over the 500 yard mark in the fourth quarter but started taking a knee with just under six minutes left in the game to avoid scoring any additional points.

Lowry hasn't been on the roster since about week 2.

I don't know that losing any of the current QBs will be an immediate concern.  Might be more of an issue after the 2017 season.  A bigger QB concern will be depth next year.  Not likely you'll see either the number or quality of incoming freshmen QBs knowing that there are that many in the class ahead of them.

JV beat Ashland yesterday 35-14.  An argument could be made that the JV had the tougher opponent this past weekend.  D2 Ashland JV may have been bigger on the line than Wilmington.

Does it really matter if Mount loses a QB or two?   They won't lose the ones that are playing and next year they'll bring who knows how many new ones on campus.  I don't see what the concern is.  We've lost several running backs over the years.  Some have had very good careers in other programs.  But it hasn't really impacted us at all.

Precisely.  The cream rises to the top.  Mount loses kids all the time.  So do all good programs.  Kids want to go where they think they can play.  No fault in that.  You wish them well and move along.

Out of curiosity, can you share who has been looking good for the JV?  I assume Reid and Taitt are taking the snaps?  I saw a couple WR that looked good in the past, but without numbers on the freshmen roster you can't tell who they are!
