Normally you would congratulate a D3 Qb that signs with the pros. Perhaps prayers and a moment of silence is more appropriate if its with the Cleveland Browns. Best wishes to former Wesley Qb Joe Callahan the newest Browns signee.

Callahan showed he could play in preseason. All DIII fans know what he is made of. The Browns should give him a shot.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anything in these forums as far in the weeds in the weeds than a sincere request for a JV series record.  I don't know if I'm horrified or impressed.
A lot of JV talk on the OAC board. Somewhere in there it has to be a function of Mount winning conference games by an average of 43 points per game. And that number is probably below the norm. Boredom can create some interesting paths.

Trying not to sound like a smart ass...but that's a good point. Mounts season doesn't typically start until late November.   ;)

What it could turn into is a discussion on why no one besides JCU and ONU seems to be capable of fielding a good football team these days.  Berg had a nice little run, but when that stellar class graduated they've slid back to the middle.  Cap and Musky seem better, but all that seems to be happening is that the middle of the OAC is getting bigger.  No one is ascending up to that top 20 level anytime soon it doesn't appear.  It's:

Mount

JCU and/or ONU
The Middle

Wilm

The only problem with this is what happened to BW? I mean they are awful. As for the rest - JCU has gotten much better each week. Mount needs to be careful with them. Can't go play the Streaks and put the ball on the turf 3 or 4 times and commit 12 penalties. Raiders need to clean it up.

The problem is the Browns may give him a shot, but their oline play pretty much guarantees he would get many, many shots from opponents. I posted on another board that Callahan should be comfortable with the Browns. Their Oline is about as good as an Oline you would find in DIII.

Joe has showed he can throw on the run (and with the Browns oline you need to), can be very effective in 2 minute and up-paced offense. I know it was preseason (and let's face it - all the guys that made the 53 man rosters had to pass the preseason test) but Joe did well enough for GB to keep 3 QBs (something they do not typically do). Injuries made roster moves necessary and as a 3rd QB he was expendable - and again with Saints. I feel bad for Joe though. He gets signed on a Tuesday and may get rushed in for Sunday - not much prep time. Browns did the same with so many QBs (Gradkowski comes to mind) over the years.

Oh yeah. I'm all for Joe. I just think the Browns are a graveyard. If he plays it's a huge accomplishment. Unfortunately I just don't see it helping his career to spend a few games running for his life and racking up bad stats. That being said, you go with the job and I'll be pulling for him to work a miracle in that nightmare.

Desertraider

I agree the Browns could be a bad thing for his career. BUT - I am a Steeler fan (sorry y'all). Playing for the Browns will get him on tape, that the Steelers will watch...add 2, divide by Pi...and maybe Tomlin says "ya know Gradkowski worked out ok for us and he came from Cleveland so maybe..." That's all I am saying. I would take Joe over Landry Jones any day.

I believe the Spanish word for a Browns Qb is pinata. Joes there for for the scout team, last year they had the 3 time national championship Qb from Wisconsin Whitewater. He was 45-0 in college and the Browns had no use for him. Hes with Chicago now last I heard. Best of luck to both of them.

Desertraider

The Browns have a history of letting players go...ones they have no use for...who go on and do very well for other teams. Sheard and Mingo are not doing badly for the Patriots. The DB Cleveland took 1st a couple years ago is with the Steelers. Who knows how he will work out but the point is - being discarded by the Browns has a tendency to mean they don't know how to use you not that you can't play.

I know Mount JV beat Ashland twice this year. Any idea what the series record is? The Mount website doesn't keep JV scores let alone a history. I have it at 11-3 now. But I could be wrong.

I remember a few years back hearing about how Ashland brought some Varsity backups down to play Mount JV to ensure a victory.

I actually went to that game. It was at Ashland, which I drive past on my way to my parents house. One of the Ashland faithful commented that they "had a bunch" of varsity backups. That was after they had lost the first 5 (I think) to Mount.
It might be legal there soon.  Maybe I will visit  ;D ;D
