the polar bears scored 80 with backs ups playing most of the second half...what up with that?

I kind of expected it. Often teams that are having disappointing seasons will get to teams they can blow out and put the hammer down. Not saying they ran it up (I didn't even look anything up about the game). I'm just guessing they came to play hard and were in the mood to blow somebody out. Wilmy just happened to be in the way and not good enough to prevent it.

Our good friend Gregggg Easterhack would be jumping all over ONU on this one. But, the stats tell me it was not a "run-up" the score game. I was expected to see some really inflated numbers. ONU had less than 500 yds total offense (488), only 1 RB had at least 100 yds (103), and the QB threw for 260. I know 488 is still a ton of yards, but I was expecting 600+. Didn't see the game but I suspect it was the result of short fields and defensive scores. Granted Freed threw 5TDs and Williams ran for 3 more - that's still only 56pts with the PATs.

Wanted to add that the average Wilma score is 56-12 (with Wilma on the shortend) and they have given up 50 or more points in 6 games. Doesn't say much for Wilma.

The polar bears have improved from week one because they have developed an identity on offense and are playing solid d especially in the back end..they return just about everyone..
Looking forward to next year...could be special

I know this is a football board, and I know that many of us have differing opinions about who we hope will win, but--

VOTE today--it's not just a right, but also a privilege and our responsibility.

theaprof,

You are a respected, admired and useful OAC board contributor.
That said, search the 'net with your "VOTE today--it's not just a right, but also a privilege and our responsibility." You may feel a can of worms has been opened. My brief venture into the search concludes:

The US Constitution stated in Amendment XXVI, which was ratified by the states in 1971: "Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age. I think the right to vote is a given.
To say that voting is "...not just...a right..." may suggest voting is a privilege and our responsibility.

Beyond the right to vote, the additional condition of privilege may be taken as a personal matter of choice. A person may proudly look on their right as a privilege.
Similarly, there is not a constitutional requirement to vote. Many potential voters, not having studied ballot issues may choose not to vote - rather than vote ignorant of issues.

JCU will be a really good pre-playoff tune up.   Should be the only game in the regular season against a team actually capable of making it a 4 quarter contest.

Mount 31
JCU 21

I don't think we will keep it that close.  While we have gotten better as the year has progressed, I do not think we are anywhere near a level that will allow us to compete with Mount in a meaningful way, let alone keep it with 10 points.

The real question is this:  Was it a mistake to schedule UW-Oshkosh this season and next?  That second loss may cost JCU a playoff berth or two.

Dr. Acula

I think the game will be closer than some expect.  Mount needs to be able to run the ball to take some heat off of Davis.  Mitchell has had good (20 carries, 157 yds) and bad (7 carries, 8 yds) games against JCU in the past.  They need him to have a good one Saturday.  The area I'm nearly always confident in is Mount's WR's against the opponents' DB's.  The number of teams who have a 3rd or 4th DB that can cover someone like Kennedy or Friss can be counted on one hand.  There have been times when JCU was one of those teams.  Not sure if they are this year, but we'll find out.

Given the level of play in most of the rest of the conference, 9-1 might be good enough to make the playoffs, but I don't know that this team is good enough to make a serious run.

I also do not think the game will be as close as 10 points on Saturday, FWIW.

Good point.  I guess if I was looking for a silver lining it'd be getting Moeglin playoff experience since he's going to be around a while.

I still do not believe that Mitchell is the answer at RB for a deep playoff run, but we will see.
I thought the playoff projected bracket was interesting, and if it plays this way, Mount would have to go through Oshkosh and most likely WWW to get to the Stagg.  I seriously doubt they have that in them this year. I hope they do, but wonder if this team is ready for both the WIAC big boys.
That said, Mount has improved every week, and great credit to the coaching staff. They have done a masterful job building this squad using so many youngsters.
I think the season is already a  success with what they have gotten from frosh and sophomores, a deep playoff run would make it one of the finest coaching jobs ever at Mount, IMO.

Good grief is the right half of that projected bracket stacked.

Since it is Streak Week, it made me think of some of the recent JCU/UMU games and made me wonder whatever happened to Mark Myers? What is he up to these days? Playing anywhere professionally?

Doesn't appear so based on a Google search.  I remember the Browns worked him out after the draft, and he was in Mel Kiper's top 10 QBs for his draft class, but doesn't look like he latched on anywhere.

Nice article in ESPN about Alex Grinch, the former Mount DB now Washington St d-coordinator.   Young rising star in the coaching ranks.   I'd post the link but the smart phone is smarter than me.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.
