Congratulations to John Carroll! This is a great day for the Blue Streaks and Coach Tom Arth. Anyone who has followed the OAC the past few years knows Arth is by far the best coach in the conference and knew this day would come for him and John Carroll. This is also a great day for the OAC as a whole and for all of Division 3 football. A team other than Mount Union is OAC Champs! WOW!

Jumping in here early.  I haven't watched much of Mount this year, but I did watch, and then listen today.  Mount was exposed today for what they are.  As athletic and gifted as Davis can be, he has an issue with turnovers.  It's why Poorman was so far ahead of him at the start of the season.

JCU could have folded after Mount stormed back, but proved they had the moxie to fight back, continue to score, and win the game.  I am not sure Mount will get into the playoffs, but if they do, they will be hard pressed to get past the quarters if they continue to play the way they played today.  And let's face it, today was the first time they were challenged, and played a team that could exploit Mount's weaknesses repeatedly.  So far, this young team is 0-1 against a worthy opponent.  FACTS....

Anyone else with a loss and the SOS that Mount has would be, AT BEST, on the bubble.  But I just can't envision the selection committee not finding some way to put UMU in the field.

Congratulations to John Carroll.  You capitalized on 4 turnovers and deserved the win.  I have seen all of Mount since '76 and was proud of the way they fought back and nearly pulled it out, but the Blue Streaks made breaks and won.  I wish them luck in the playoffs and hope they represent the conference well.
This also awakens a rivalry game which is great news for the future.
Young QB was starry-eyed in the first half and consistently threw high.  At one time total yards was something like 190 to 12.
Mitchell lived down to expectations against speed and size, he just cannot get tough yards.
The young Raiders will return and the great coaching job done this year will pay off down the road.
I will now pack a bag and get ready to travel to an away playoff game...haha...this should make a great many folks happy.

Agree...  9-1 Mount is pretty safe because they have 296 championships. Honestly I think they have to be in because they have historically performed unlike any team at any level. You have to beat them on the field. Now if CWRU had won today, then it would have been a little more dicey I think.

Should be, but if there were a bet on it, I would feel safe putting my money on Mount getting in.

I agree with this, that the committee will put Mount Union in the playoffs, but it should be pointed out that they do NOT have a win over a Regionally Ranked opponent. However, with Wabash losing today, Mount Union will probably be the first ones on the board in the North.

What was the turnover ratio today vs. the turnover ratio the last time Mount lost in the regular season (to Ohio Northern?) ?

I forgot about Wheaton. Mount Union could be behind them before they get into the playoff conversation.

I wonder what their record is with 3 or more in a game since 1993.  In other words how many games have a Kehres team turned it over 3 times, period.

Everyone can name the losses.
AMC Champs: 1991-1992-1993-1994-1995
HCAC Champs: 2000, 2001
PAC Champs:  2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
Bridge Bowl Champs:  1990-1991-1992-1993-1994-1995-2002-2003-2006-2008-2009-2010-2011-2012-2013 (SERIES OVER)
Undefeated: 1991, 1995, 2001, 2009, 2010, 2015

JCU will be a really good pre-playoff tune up.   Should be the only game in the regular season against a team actually capable of making it a 4 quarter contest.

Mount 31
JCU 21

I don't think we will keep it that close.  While we have gotten better as the year has progressed, I do not think we are anywhere near a level that will allow us to compete with Mount in a meaningful way, let alone keep it with 10 points.

The real question is this:  Was it a mistake to schedule UW-Oshkosh this season and next?  That second loss may cost JCU a playoff berth or two.

Given the level of play in most of the rest of the conference, 9-1 might be good enough to make the playoffs, but I don't know that this team is good enough to make a serious run.

I also do not think the game will be as close as 10 points on Saturday, FWIW.

Of my many incorrect predictions on this board over the last decade plus, I'm happiest about this one.

Let's hope I was wrong about the "not good enough to make a serious run" call too.

Congratulations to JCU.  A much deserved win.

How well the Streaks do in the playoffs may depend on how quickly they can shake off today's victory.

Congrats to the streaks on the win. I cringed listening to the game on the radio. 4 turnovers!? This young team has come a long way. I can only hope we get one of those 6 bids. I hope we get in and get another shot at JCU to shore up those mistakes. The coaching staff made some great adjustments, but we can't turn it over 4 times and expect to win! Here's to hoping we get another game next week! Go Ders!

A question or two  for Pat, has a defending national champion with one loss ever NOT gotten in the playoffs?
