A question or two  for Pat, has a defending national champion with one loss ever NOT gotten in the playoffs?
Has a defending national champion been left out of the playoffs>

Whitewater did not make it in 2012 but that was when they finished 7-3 with losses to 6-4 Buffalo State and 2-8 Stevens Point.

My take on the UMU/JCU game. The differences between VK and LK coaching styles. Under LK the Qb would not commit 3 turnovers in a game this big. He would not get the opportunity. My guess is that Davis got all the snaps in practice and Poorman was not ready. I would have had him warming up on the sideline after the second pick. The delays of game penalties hurt the momentum for UMU and that gets charged to the coaches on the sideline. Davis was rattled from the first drive and the whole first half was wasted opportunity after wasted opportunity. I would have let Poorman see if he could move the team for a least two possessions. If you have to bring in a second back and remove a receiver to protect a skittish Qb, then thats what you do. VK stuck with a losing game plan too long IMHO. JCUs attacking defense looked more UMUlike than ours did. Hats off to them. Our pass defense weaknesses were planned for and exploited expertly. Kudos to JCU. When a Qb is having the success that Moeglin was having, the Dline has to throw a hand up and cut off the passing lanes to make him alter the throw....and they never did. Not like UMU defenses of the past. Having the extra Db and one less rusher wasn't effective. How can you get burned over the middle on the run AND the pass SO many times and have no answer? Does anybody besides me think Lowerys legs would have benefitted the offense in a game like this? Is he even on the roster anymore? Despite the Td run I thought Davis was a sitting duck back there given that the read option is not his thing and he's not really a running threat. There is much work yet to do Im afraid :'(

St Johns didn't make it the year after they won.  2003 I believe (won) 2004 didn't make it

St John's was 7-3 (6-2 MIAC) that year though, not a 1-loss team.

I've bolded the sentence I'm responding to because it's patently untrue, and I didn't even have to look hard to find an example.

2011 Stagg Bowl (kind of a big game):  Matt Piloto was intercepted twice and fumbled once.
2010 Stagg Bowl: Matt Piloto was intercepted 4 times.

I'm sure there are other examples, but that was just looking back at a couple of their recent Stagg Bowl losses under LK, I'm not going to spend my morning finding others.  VK is 51-3 with a national championship and two runner ups.  I think I'd take him over you on my sideline.

Also, Poorman hadn't been the backup for almost a month.  Donovan Taitt is the #2, and the two of them have taken nearly all the 1sr/2nd snaps in practice during that time.  I doubt that changes going into the playoffs.

Davis will be just fine.

Players must make plays in big games...Moeglin did it, Mount Union's DB's did not.
3rd and 12 from the 20 and you allow a TD pass with little time left...shame on you. But it happens.  Move on.
Freshmen were exposed, lack of dominant DLineman was exposed, inexperience DB's were exposed.  They have had a season to learn, but have not faced the quality of Tom Arth and JCU.
I believe the Mount coaches have gotten the best this team has to offer. They have done a great job bringing them along. It will pay off later.
I am sorry "we" lost, but am optimistic and look forward to the future with these kids, along with a great recruiting and coaching staff.

Now the VK test is on.   A roster completely built with his recruits, not Dad's.  Do they recover or is 2016 the first step towards becoming Augustana.

Congrats to JCU.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Toph how many times did LK pull a starter because of sloppy play? Lots. Ball security was always a priority of LKs. If you didn't take care of the ball, you watched from the sidelines. As for Taitt I have no knowledge of his strengths or weaknesses as a Qb. Given the first half performance, wasnt he worth a look? I do know from last year that Lowery had good running ability and an accurate arm despite his lack of height. Its another dimension, thats all. That being said, Davis needs more seasoning and he will be fine. There is little time for it left though. Im not placing the loss at Davis' feet, the D needs work also. Its the wakeup call thats been needed all season.

Well, that was fun yesterday, with surprises at all levels of college football.  Both matblake and Usee managed to rise above the chaos to score eleven points and take medalist honors in the regular season finale.

And despite not winning a single week, consistently solid rounds made reality check our 2016 OAC Pick-Em regular season champion.  Congratulations!   8-)

Spreads for the first week of the 2016 OAC Playoff Pick-Em come out Monday night.  Scores are reset to zero; new players are welcome.

I love when people change their argument midstream.  You said LK would never give a QB the opportunity to turn the ball over 3 times...

I just gave you two examples where LK didn't pull his starter, despite your insistence that he would "never give a QB the opportunity to turn the ball over 3 times in a big game."  Again, I didn't even have to look hard and they were in bigger games than yesterday!

My point is this...Mount Union got beat yesterday.  That's it.  JCU was the better team.  Virtually everywhere else in Division III losing to a 1 loss, top 20 team is hardly a shock.  For you (and seemingly you alone, I'll point out), it's time to question the gameplan and playcalling of a ridiculously successful young coach.

Also, FYI...in his first four seasons, LK was 30-10-2 with 0 national titles and only one OAC title (embarrassing, right?).  Probably left a QB in too long for you somewhere along the line.

There ya go mount haters/cry babies. No home games.. hopefully there is a good video stream for the games.. if they would go that far, umhb at their place would be a very tuff place for us to play..

Hobart's video stream is awful.  You have to pay for it and it's choppy as f***
