As my closer "internet friends" know, on occasion I have a glimpse into the inter-sanctum that is UMU football.  This has been a very weird (substitute "young") year for UMU.  I think there was some trepidation amongst loyalists that were still staunch UMU fans, and unfortunately (fortunately?) it didn't come to roost until the JCU game.  Don't get me wrong, JCU deserves high praise from not folding when Mount made their run, and doing what they had to do.  But, revisionist/devils advocate, if Mount doesn't turn the ball over four times this game is completely different.

My questions is....can Mount fix it?  Davis is the much more athletic QB who has a great upside.  However, he has a tendency to turn the ball over more than a coach would like, so what do you do?  Poorman has been much more "ball security aware", but less dynamic.  I know you stick with your latest starter, but I wonder.  And the bigger bottom line is.....DEFENSE....where you at????  (To quote a certain Polar Bear).

Anyway, I am happy they got in, and on the road is what it is.  They will either be good enough (which I think they might for a bit), or not.  I think there might be a view from some that this is a bonus year, and what happens happens.  I would guess that the expectations will be much higher the next two years.

Now those aren't MY expectations, as I am a spoiled Mount fan that thinks if we don't get to at least the semi's it's not a good season.  Kind of sad in a way, and the road to recovery is to at least admit it.

Party on Raiders, and it's all in front of you.

Hobart here we come! I hope this one is on the net. I cant go. If we meet JCU again it will be in the Stagg Bowl. Wouldnt that be special! Good luck Raiders.

After seeing the game live and watching replay today, I wonder why Davis didn't keep the ball on Zone/read a few times.  I suspect they weren't true Zone/Read plays and the call was to hand off, but I thought he could have had some big runs if he kept.

Also, on the play before the scoop/score for JCU, Davis hit a wide open WR (15 I think no DVR in the hotel) for a first down and he dropped it.  A first down there and possible Mount score on that drive probably would've put the game away.

Welcome to Geneva and the Finger Lakes Raider fans. The Statesmen are proud to host such a storied program.....although in my old years we did pretty well against you guys. If you are coming to the area beware that the D3 women's field hockey tourney is being hosted by us so Geneva rooms are probably gone. The weekend is supposed to be beautiful, come early and check out the wine tours...you will find Western NY similar to Ohio but finger lakes are beautiful with full Fall colors. We look forward to avenging recent playoff losses and you might be surprised by our talent this year.....because we WILL DEFEND THE BOZ😀

No offense to anyone intended:

1. Congrats to jcu (I will congratulate you but not capitalize you  :P) - and your reward is UWWs bracket  :'(

2. Looking at Mounts side, I still have them penciled into the Semis. I think they will rebound and I think Hobart will not be happy with Sats result.

It wasn't playcalling, it wasn't coaching (or lack of it) - Mount got beat. The first half reminded me of 2003 Stagg against St. Johns. Mount looked like they just expected to show up and win. The difference is this team, young as it is, fought back and almost pulled it out. Now having said that - I was a little torn on the playoffs. We have all said Mount won't win it all this year (or something to the effect). A regular season loss and a playoff loss...2 losses in 1 season  ???

Question: Is it just me or does anyone else think JCU should have stayed East and Mount headed to UWWs part of the bracket?

The TOs did not help, thats for sure, but even with 4 TOs Mount had the lead with 3:49 to go. IMHO - what hurt more was the inability to run inside. The last drive said it all - Mount can score & score fast - but can't grind out a tough drive when they need to A)score and B) eat clock. The great teams of the past could do those things. The 8 minute drive in the 4th against UWW in the Stagg, the NCC game, last year in Stagg (didn't really need the score but did need to grind the clock). Many others I am sure over the last 25 years. Point is, and has been made several times: BJ is great against lower tier teams but average against a solid D AND he can't get the tough inside yards. If Mount could have gone 70 in 10 or 12 plays (instead of 5) and taken another 1:30 - 2:00 off the clock with runs of 5 - 8 yards, the TOs may not have mattered.

Oh - and I believe it was the last scoring drive where Davis ran out of bounds and stopped the clock. A QB with another year under his belt would have stayed in to keep the clock moving.

The man does not lie ... go early and stay late.  Tour a winery or two.  The Fingers are a wonderful place to visit.  [Is Bully Hill still open?]

And since we no longer have the late Dick Ross to give us the history of our opponents and their home towns, do your own research.  Hobart's history is fascinating.

Sorry I can't make the trip ... good health to both teams next weekend.

Yes and Yes. Before the semi's, Mount's road doesn't look like it will be all that different than their regular season.

Really have no idea why they would do this to JCU.  I would have expected this type of bracketing had Mount beat them (other than the fact that Mount would be the home team throughout in their bracket). We fully expected to welcome Mount to UW-W for the quarters.  Oh well, maybe we'll see you in Salem.

JCU, favored over Olivet (4 TDs)

JCU, favored over Wesley (3 TDs)

JCU ... OK, it's Whitewater.

But why are you b*tching?  JCU is 2nd in their own division.  BP, it's just you.

The biggest obstacle I see for jcu is - they just beat Mount. Something Arth the player never saw. They just got an 800lb gorilla off their back. The hangover is their biggest opponent in Round 1. I know Tom was already looking at prospective opponents and game planning on the drive back to University Heights (he did afterall breakdown film for Peyton Manning). But those players have a tough task - forget about beating Mount. Whatever they do - it had better not be crap down their leg in round 1. If Mount has to travel because of a loss to jcu - they had better at least win a couple until...well Whitewater.

The way I look at it is either you see Whitewater (or a team like them) in the quaters, semis, or finals, but there is no way around the fact that you can't win a championship without playing a team like that eventually.

After watching the replay I was discouraged by how many times our Oline broke down. JCU had unblocked rushers making plays several times. Gotta fix that.

I wonder what their record is with 3 or more in a game since 1993.  In other words how many games have a Kehres team turned it over 3 times, period.

Everyone can name the losses.

I can't go back to 1993, but I can go back through 2010.  During the last six years, a "Kehres team" has turned it over 3+ times in 18 games, going 13-5 in the process.  The turnover ratio may be more telling.

And yes, you know who all the prior losses were to.

Exactly.  You have to play and beat good teams -- really good teams -- eventually.
