I think the best way to move the ball on umhb is to roll davis out , little quick hitters or just tuck and run. I cant see Mitchell having much success against them. maybe Dewaye Arron will step up, he may be the kinda back we need in this game.

FYI and FWIW: The most major slow down issues when traveling to Belton via I35 southbound from Dallas/Fort Worth usually occur between Waco and Temple (lots of construction). To avoid any potential problems one option is to take Spring Valley Road, in Hewitt (just south of Waco), to Moody then to Belton.

Spring Valley has a marked exit off of 35. Spring Valley will eventually end/T into TX 107/8th Street in Moody. Take a right onto 107/8th and in a few short blocks you will come to a traffic light. Turn left onto TX 317. 317 will take you into Belton and will become Main Street. It will take you to the front of campus. Take a right onto MLK (UMHB's brand new Performing Arts Center is being constructed on the corner of Main and MLK) and it will take you to Crusader Stadium.

I routinely use this route. If there is any issue on I35 between Waco and Temple, due to the construction, it usually results in significant delays.

As far as the running game goes, here is what I know: Chuck Moore is not walking through that door. Dan Pugh? Nate Kmic? Ricky Ciccone? Logan Nemeth - they aren't walking through that door. I don't know what the plan will be but I am hopeful the coaches have one. I would still like to see Elliot Nero. Let's face it - UMHB has no game film on him. 8-)

Nice little clip of the Alfred post game PC. QB looks a little banged up but he says something early that we all knew:"We saw that the secondary was the weak part of the defense". They also say that is why he threw the ball 67 times. Nothing new - but interesting to hear an opponents viewpoint of the Mount D.

Has a regional player of the year ever been dumped on as thoroughly as Bradley Mitchell has been?  I'm blown away by the commentary here this week.

maybe the OAC posters were surprised that Mitchell was the region player of the year.  I know I was based on what I had read on this board.

Probably not. BJ is a really good RB - but his bar for comparison isn't former Regional POY, it's: Kmic, Moore, Pugh and Nemeth. All great players that played better when the game got bigger and the competition got tougher. BJ has a history, as has been said, of looking great against average teams - and below average against good ones. The Alfred game actually surprised me. I did not expect him to put up that many yards, especially given what was said about the Alfred defense (granted by Alfred fans). BJs performance didn't make me question the doubts about his performance in big games - it made me question if Alfred's run defense was any good to begin with.

I've watched the greater part of 3 UMU games this year, and it does seem that the front 6-7 aren't helping the secondary in terms of pass rush, blitzing, or LB drops.  Alfred's QB can scramble, and that helped him, but do you guys think UMU's defensive scheme is a little off this year?  It always seemed they were able to get more pressure, and once every other series or so get a nice blitz in there to rattle the QB and either force a pick, sack, or hurry that would destroy the drive series.

I noticed a lot of 3 man rush, which I assume is to help the secondary?

I know I was surprised. Granted I didn't have anyone in mind for the award.

I think the 3 man rush is too help in coverage. Not sure if I am right - but it makes sense. You are right though - the front 6-7 don't seem to be getting real pressure and sacks when they need them. Against Alfred they got a ton of hurries and flushed him almost every time - but they didn't or couldn't finish it. The Alfred QB was actually very good throwing on the run (not great as he had a ton of high throws). The only game that comes to mind where Mount got pressure and sacks when they had to have them was against Johns Hopkins in the 4th QTR.

Chase Burton

(I have never seen him play, just playing devil's advocate)

On a side note, I see Johnson got East region player of the year, while Sweeney beat him out as the ECAC player of the year.  I commented on the E8 board that in the 3 games  I saw of each player, I would agree with d3football as I thought Johnson was the overall better player.

Desertraider

On POY I guess it depends on what is involved in the decision. Is it simply the best guy stats wise? Is it the individuals value to the team? Hard to beat BJs stats but I think Dom Davis meant more to Mounts O this year. Not saying he should be POY - but I think he is POY for Mount.
