I couldn't see vk leaving for an assistant job at a low d1 school. Maybe a big time Programe . But why would u leave when ur a top coach in the country in d3. I'm sure umu is paying him nicely. As nice as an asst at a small dl college atleast.

I think he gets all the soda he can drink and unlimited trips to the pizza station in HPCC, AND free candy bars in the bookstore - and a hat!

Well, the ten football gurus at the Canton Suppository unanimously pick Mount. Nine of ten pick jcu. Now, I worry.

I'm sure these fine professionals are well versed in D3 football and have a pretty comprehensive understanding of Mary Hardin-Baylor's team.

I think you should take a deeper look at the D1 football economy and see what assistants make.  And it's not just that step from D3 HC to FBS G5 assistant coach, it's the step after that one that is the bigger deal.  Lance Leipold was paid "nicely" at UWW.  Why would he leave that gig?  Because, like absolutely every other proper-thinking person on the planet, when you can make 5x more than you're making now, you go make 5x more than you're making now.  It's not even a thing that you think twice about.

Just watched the highlights of the 2012 UMHB/Mount game. What a great game - and then it hit me: Mount needs Jake Simon. Does he have any last minute 'Rocky Pentello eligibility' left? Maybe retro-actively enroll him in some on-line classes in a grad program? How about Nemeth? I think the others may be a bit long in the tooth - although Kmic might still be able to get 100 yards.

There were recent posts about who was flying, who was busing. Curious - how did Mount get 'there'? Certainly aren't direct flights from CAK. From CLE? That must be a draining flight. bus to CLE to DFW, bus to Belton. Yuk. STill curious, when a team flies, how many seats do they get?

I mean, yes, the money is what it is.

But I'm sure he also had the desire to compete at another level. There are always going to be coaches who want to stay 30+ years and become living legends at one school. But some also may feel they owe it to themselves to try to succeed at a new challenge, after posting five 15-0 seasons and winning six titles. I see nothing wrong with either approach

Exactly Wally.

Your average MAC coordinator is making close to 200K, and most will look to move up after that, especially a younger coach like VK.  VK has a huge advantage right now because he would be very hireable at the next level.  Leipold took a big jump going right to head coach at a tough school to win at, so I assume VK might at least get a coordinator offer at a local MAC school?

I assume VK does not make much more than 100K at UMU though as well, if he makes that.

Your average MAC coordinator is making close to 200K, and most will look to move up after that, especially a younger coach like LK.  LK has a huge advantage right now because he would be very hireable at the next level.  Leipold took a big jump going right to head coach at a tough school to win at, so I assume LK might at least get a coordinator offer at a local MAC school?

I assume LK does not make much more than 100K at UMU though as well, if he makes that.

By LK I think you mean VK? I saw the "younger coach" part and though LK isn't old (65 is the new 30 I hear) he isn't as young as VK (40s).

I forgot to mention that the travel roster was emailed out and then a follow-up sent the next day to add Jordan Hargrove. Haven't heard his name in a while.

Speaking of coaching...I just now saw that BW is in the market for a new HC.  Snell took an Asst AD position and is stepping down as HC.

Greg Debeljak would be a good candidate here.  Wouldn't have to move and his kids have already graduated from CWRU.  Does anyone know what the compensation package is like at BW?

I can't imagine he would leave with Cuda and the rest of the players returning.

I think it's easy for fans to get fooled into thinking the players returning have much influence at all over whether or not a coach decides to take another job.  Almost universally, coaches love their players.  Coaches would never leave for new jobs if they let affinity for their roster be a thing.

It wasn't affinity to players I was thinking of, but rather going from a playoff caliber team to one with history, but on hard times of late.

For reference, Jason Candle made $137k in 2014 and $147k in 2015 when he was OC at Toledo.  I highly doubt any D3 coaches are making that kind of money.  My guess for VK would be something like $80k and with bonuses and incentives pushing more like $100k.  It's public record that LK made far more, but he is also AD so it's not apples to apples.

When UMHB flew to UMU in 2012  for that  semifinal game, they flew a charter flight out of  the Killeen/Fort Hood airport(20-25 minutes from  Belton), and landed at the Akron/Canton airport. A similar direct charter flight from Killeen  to Madison was done in 2007 when UMHB went to UWW for that semifinal.

I think all "flights" that the NCAA pays for are such charters, so the busing from airports is therefore  pretty minimal.

Well everyone here at D3Football.com is taking UMHB......including Pat - and he hasn't been wrong on Mount this playoffs (including naming their score against Alfred). I had said that I thought the semis would be it - THIS YEAR. But - I still have hope. Maybe UMHB experiences their own "plague of toads". In the end though I think UMHB just has too much. Won't name a score but I think UMHB wins comfortably - and I hope that I am wrong.

I think MHB wins very comfortably too.   Honestly I'll be thoroughly satisfied with Mount if they make MHB play into the 4th quarter.   Young team has grown up well these last few weeks, but I doubt theyre ready to play against a truly elite team.   Maybe next year, but not now.
