I'd wonder how much the OC had on his plate at JCU.  You'd have to think Arth is running the offense to some extent.  It's like LK...tough for those former QB's to not be involved in the offense.

From footballscoop.com:

QuoteWestern Kentucky: Sources tell FootballScoop Mount Union offensive coordinator Geoff Dartt will join Mike Sanford's staff, coaching the offensive line. In Dartt's five seasons at The Mount, the Purple Raiders won the D-III National Championship 17 times (well, not really; but doesn't it feel that way). Prior to returning to his alma mater as a coach, Dartt coached offensive line, tackles & tight ends for four seasons at Wheaton College.

I'd be very interested to hear names of possible replacements for OC. Most of the guys that have been there awhile seem happy as position coaches. I'm not sure that Burke has enough experience yet, so maybe someone from outside?

It's a good question.  Perhaps "outside" may mean just bringing someone home?  Say Jason Lewis or Luke Summers?  I don't know anything about how they are as coaches, but what I do know is both are guys that have been OL coaches and are now OC and both are former Raiders.  And they've both coached in the OAC for years.

Another possibility might be Steve McNeely. Another Mount guy, he's an OC in North Carolina I think.

Isn't Dartt LK's son-in-law?

Also, when you are going to a scholarship school, I would assume you only want some many people without experience managing the distribution of those scholarships.  Just a thought.

Good point.  He probably has to balance his staff out with some guys with FBS/FCS experience.  I'd think if he could survive without one of his guys it'd be in the area he himself is most capable in.

I have been out the the loop for a while.  Has BW or JCU named a head coach?
Yes, Dartt is LK's son in law.  Is it a sure thing he is leaving?

After I thought more about Dartt's departure, I have a feeling the conversation went something like this:

Dartt to VK:  "You leaving anytime soon, brother-in-law?"
VK: "Nope.  I am here to stay."
Dartt realizing the timeline for him to take over as Mount's next head coach just got real long:  "I'm out"

In short, this move tells me that VK intends to stay and Dartt wanted to make a move because of it.

It's been brought up previously, but the other issue is always money.  Especially for a young guy that's just married.  These coaches put in a ton of hours at every level.  If you're going to do that I can't fault you if you want to move up and start on the road to making some serious coin.  I'd think with one promotion (from OL coach to an OC) Dartt will already surpass what D3 HC's make.

WKU's previous OL coach made $95,000 in 2016.  That's already more than what most D3 HCs make.  Any kind of promotion to coordinator would give him mulitples of what D3 HCs make.

I remain blown away at how so many people don't seem to understand just how different the economies are between divisions of college football and how people are shocked(!) that a guy would leave a good-to-great job at a D3 to get into an FCS or G5 FBS staff, even as a position coach.  It's an absolute no brainer, gang.

And Dartt wasn't even a HC in D3.  Case in point...not that Berg is a great job, but Hallett did leave there to become a position coach at Toledo.
