Welcome to Streak Nation Coach Finotti! I personally like this move. He was a winner at St. Ed's, and he got great at the College level with Michigan. Of course, only time will tell.

2016 OAC CHAMPS! AND MY OWN SELF-PROCLAIMED RUNNERS-UP TO THE RUNNERS-UP.

Onward on, John Carroll

While nothing is guaranteed, it is my belief that this hire gives us at least a hope of continuing the program's momentum under Coach Arth.

I had heard that Hilvert and Finotti were in play at both BW and JCU and, if I had to choose, I would have chose Finotti.  I am also having a hard time coming up with another possible hire (within reason, of course) that JCU would have possibly attracted to campus that would have been better or much better than Rick. That said, I am happy with the hire.

JCU has a press conference scheduled for 4:00 and Coach Finotti is scheduled to address the crowd at tonight JCU-BW basketball game at John Carroll, scheduled for a 7:00 tip-off.

I love the NE Ohio connections that he will bring to the job.  I am intrigued to how he builds out his staff.  Will he look to bring along any of his former coaches from his high school days....or will he bring any younger guys he met at Michigan?  Should be interesting.

Any idea if the press conference introducing the new JCU coach will be available to watch now or at a later time?

I would be surprised if any of those younger guys at Michigan would leave to go to DIII as an assistant (they'll make more $ at Michigan), but it does happen.

Now if he can bring any of the Michigan players along with him (ala Fleck bringing WMU recruits with him to Minnesota), then you will KNOW you've gotten a helluva coach! ;)

Footballscoop.com reports JCU to name Rick Finotti as head coach.

This definitely seems like a logical hire.  Like Arth, Finotti is a known commodity in NE Ohio which will keep that crucial parochial pipeline flowing to UH.  Being around Harbaugh for a couple years is a plus in my book too.  Like him or not that guy is a great coach.  You have to be able to learn a few things from a guy that is that successful.  Hilvert would have been interesting at JCU, but him at BW and Finotti at JCU ups the intrigue because we have to think BW is going to be trending up very soon.

I think it is a great hire by both schools. Hilvert will probably have the most short term impact because BW needs some rebuilding.  Finotti is arguably the better choice for JCU.  He is only two years removed from NE Ohio high school scene so I expect him to be well networked which should permit him to be up and running on the recruiting side of things. I agree with the others that it will be interesting to see who is gets for a staff.  Rick will be busy recruiting both players and coaches.

IMO, both guys are great hires with NEO ties for BW and JCU. How will this affect the OAC? UMU has gotten a few Cleveland guys each year recently, but not a ton. It seems like we've focused on out of state areas (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, Carolinas and southern Ohio) recently. I'm not concerned that UMU won't be getting those guys as often, but I definitely think these coaches won't be letting as many players go to other OAC or D2/3 schools if they can help it. They're also good X and O guys as well. Looking forward to a more competitive conference rather than 2 team race.

These Two pretty high profile hires at JCU and BW will most certainly push up HC salary average in the OAC. I imagine it won't take too long for those in the know to become aware of the full compensation level of these new hires.  UMU has a pretty sharp athelitic director that I imagine will work to make sure his HC is aproperately compensated in light of these two recent hires.

Dr. Acula

Are we thinking that the HC isn't already appropriately compensated compared to those 2 hires?

i suspect the HC is decently compensated, but those in the category of best in class often gain an advantage of possible bump in compensation well connected candidates are hired in their backyard.  Plus i suspect the two new hires came in at the high end of OAC coaching salaries.

Per football scoop Tyler Funk is leaving Mount Union for Indiana State. I also heard at the national coaches convention that Larry Kehres is coming back to call the offense
