Dr Acula?? But I'm Romanian. Well if you are, OK! I probably should have that name. Maybe we could share some mamaliga. Oh, but I digress.

Since I have had as many as 11 football players on my block in Alliance, including Charlie Dear, I get current info on various items of interest. Chris Kappas, former DC, will be the new OC. Vince will be the DC. I'm pretty sure LK will not be far behind anyone.

Will be seeing some new looks on offense and defense this fall. Can't wait.

GO RAIDERS!

MUC57,

Have you heard anything about the QB position coming out of Spring?  Did all the Freshmen from last year stay (Davis, Poorman, Fulford, Tate and Reid)?

K& J's Dad,

I had a meeting on campus a few weeks back and according to my reliable source the Spring did not really change the QB
competition, Davis, Poorman and Fulford were all competing. It looks as though one could move to a different role for '17. :-\

Decided I'm going to spam every conference board with my preseason (non-returning-starter-adjusted) projections.

I don't know how controversial this will be on this board, but I firmly believe that Mount Union was a better team than JCU last season, and it took a considerable amount of luck for John Carroll to pull off the win. Given that, and their 4-year regression, Mount is a pretty heavy favorite for next season. Baldwin-Wallace is inevitably going to have a rebound season this year, even if they do only go 5-5--it took a lot of bad luck last year for them to lose 7 games--and Wilmington probably isn't going to win any conference games.

Sorry, a bit late in responding as I only log in a couple times in the Summer.  Fellow math junkie Hansen, spam as much as you want ... most of these tree-swingers don't give a crap about numbers.  They grab rumors, they spy on practices, they are tighter to the teams than we are.  It is a weird partnership.  And we are dependent upon them.  But all aiming for the same target.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

I don't know about the rest of his predictions, but I'm pretty sure he's right about Wilmington.

D3 Preseason Top 25 is out.
http://www.d3football.com/top25/2017/preseason

UMHB deserves to be #1 until beat or showing extreme weak areas. They will need to fill a lot of spots in QB (their playmaker on O), Smith (DL in NFL camp) and safety who was on Gagliardi list. Hardin Simmons could get them this year.
UMU at 2 is solid to me bc we return so much. Need to replace RB and Oline spots.
Then they have UWW and Oshkosh, but I'd flip those 2. Very even and tough teams, but I think this year they both could get beat by a different WIAC team in UWP or others improving.
St. Thomas is next and they were a great team, but didn't show up when they needed last season.
Then they have Wheaton, NCC and JCU (underrated bc of coaching change?). I think those 3 are very similar and will return a lot of starters from their successful seasons last year. Mainly QBs return.
I've got 2 "sleeper" teams I'm going to choose to have good seasons (based on last season....I haven't looked into them in depth yet. Subject to change after reading kickoff..haha). I think Hobarts offense can be scary dangerous with returning their QB and WR from last year. Both were exceptional IMO. Also, Redlands gave UMHB everything they wanted and then some in the playoffs last year. I'm not saying either one will win the Stagg Bowl, but I think depending on matchups can win 1-2 games in the playoffs.

Do Mt fans have faith in Davis? He did play well overall and seems like a versatile offensive weapon, but he also accounted for a lot of turnovers in the JCU & UHMB losses.

I have confidence in Davis because the staff clearly has confidence in him.  He went out and won that job.  He did not play well in those games, but we're talking about a freshman carrying the expectations of being the Mount Union QB on his shoulders.  That's a lot to ask of him (or any frosh).  To me the true test is how he handles it this year.  Those jitters need to be gone now.  I expect to see much more consistent QB play regardless of which one of them is in there.  I was impressed at times by each of those kids (Davis, Poorman, Taitt, Fulford).

Good points and I agree. Will be curious to see how it goes, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have the depth as an insurance plan.

I agree about Davis being young and inexperienced , but a few things that worry me were a lot of his misses weren't just little misses, some of them were at least 2 feet over receivers heads or way short and not to mention the wide open guys in the umhb game. I think he has a lot of potential but if he struggles with the same inconsistencies again id pull him.

hsbsballcoach7

I like Davis a lot, but there were some BAD passes in big moments. There was one that I can't believe he even threw against UMHB in the 4th quarter with his receiver cloaked by the defender. I'm sure he will get better, if not I felt that Fulford has high potential. I'm sure whoever it is will have to earn it.

Im really interested to see who will be the main rb this year. Will Evans-Morris be the guy or someone else take over. I like him I just don't know if he has the explosiveness as some of our previous backs.
