To me, obviously, deliberately not scoring is even more rubbing it in than scoring.  Playing the guys who never otherwise play, and no deep passes, is about all you can reasonably do.  If a guy deliberately ran out of bounds at the five when he had clear sailing to the endzone, I'd be much more insulted than if he scored.

I haven't checked the play-by-play of the last ten minutes of the SJU game, but since they didn't score, I'm guessing they did some things that as an opponent I would find MORE objectionable than losing by triple digits.  Your empathy I welcome.  Your sympathy I accept.  Your pity - F**K You.

Can't argue with that.  I retract part of my earlier post.  [Still believe Gags was classy!]

Gags WAS classy.  Just object to people pulling a Gregg Easterbrook on SJU today; not sure what they could have done with a hopelessly outmatched opponent that wouldn't be even worse than what they did.  (And this was the TOP of the UMAC; imagine if they had scheduled a bottom-feeder! :o)

I don't know Mr Y,  St. Johns didn't throw a pass after their first drive of the 2nd half.   SJU appears to have just tried to run the ball the last quarter of the game with 3 different QB's.   Boxscore shows a modicum of misfortune for the scholars with turnovers, short fields, bad punts, good punts with good returns and a complete inability to get a first down or stop St. Johns in any way at all.    http://www.d3football.com/seasons/2017/boxscores/20170902_7d9l.xml?view=plays

SJU had 7 "drives" of around 40 yards including 13, 12, 20 and 21 yards, plus two returns for TD.

I was surprised to learn St. Scholastica went 7-3 last year, I expected this was a moribund or even new program getting its feet wet.  SJU beat them 49-7 last year.

You can't tell guys to quit playing.

Moeglin to Woods to Williamson ... what a fabulous touchdown!

Incredible.  I literally checked on the JCU game and watched that play live...Sportscenter Top Ten ???

Hey guys, this JCU play was #2 on Sportscenter Top 10 this morning, no joke.

After watching the worst college football team at the fcs level or above last night (Hampton) I am convinced Mt. Union and a few other schools as well would have easy pickings against many of the fcs schools.

Regarding Justin Hill: watching a WR, wearing #1, using a yellow mouthpiece, do pretty much whatever he wanted yesterday brought back some memories of a certain Indianapolis Colt / Washington Redskin / SF 49er.  :o

Fulford looked really really good. Gonna be exciting to watch him develop as the competition gets tougher . New TE i think is gonna be one of those x factor players when playofffs start. Keep an eye on him seems to be an above avg athlete with great size for d3 level.

yea j hill might be the next raider in a few years to hear his name on draft day.  i know way too early but really excited for this season. loads of talent..

Shark, yes really!  ;D

And possibly what is worse than getting beat by 98 is completely whiffing on a punt. Of course there could have been a strong wind that redirected the ball once it was dropped to kick.

Week #1 results of the 2017 OAC Pick-Em have been posted.

A successful opening week on the field as 8 of the 10 OAC teams proved victorious.  For many players, it was also a successful week in the OAC Pick-Em.

desertcat1 and Sir Battlescars came within a half point of a perfect week as they picked the wrong side of the UWO/JCU spread.  Joining them with 9 of 10 points were bluestreak66, HansenRatings, and mr_mom.

Week #2 spreads will come out Monday night.

Thoughts on yesterday:

Welcome to 2017 Mr. Fulford!  Extremely impressive start.  Other than one throw he forced over the middle he pretty much played a flawless game mentally from what I saw.  Seemed to have a great feel for when to pull it down and run.  Made a nice read on a play he scrambled and then saw (I believe) the TE open and flicked it to him for more yardage rather than a short gain on the run.  Overall very nice effort.

I thought we saw flashes of what Hill could develop into.  He looked like the best athlete on the field.  He was getting open deep with relative ease it seemed.  He has a chance to become a great WR.  And that's no knock on Ruth and Friss.  Those guys can be All-OAC players.  This receiving corps goes from good to scary if Hill is the home run threat he saw yesterday and the TE makes plays to compliment things.

At RB I thought we got what I expected from Jawanza E-M.  He made a couple nice cutbacks for decent runs, but no huge plays.  I liked the effort even when the game was out of hand he was churning the legs fighting for extra yards.  I did raise an eyebrow when Petruccelli came in very early on a 3rd and short to pick it up.  I liked his physicality.  He lowered his shoulder and initiated contact.  Choat and fellow freshman Matt Garcia got in, but nothing fancy.

The D was great and set the tone immediately with two 3 and outs to start the game.  NCW ran a little bit on them, but largely when the game was out of hand.  I agree with desertraider, the surprise to me was L. Berry letting the WR get a step on him a couple of times.  I wasn't watching him specifically so I didn't see what lead to that happening, but it happened more than once.  Surprising given his wheels, but NCW had some athletes at the skill spots.  Other than that I thought the secondary played very well.  The defense is just so fast overall.  It's pretty much impossible to get wide on them.  You have to UWW "pound the rock" right at them.

Quick thoughts on other OAC games I watched:

JCU:  Honestly, I was more impressed with UWO than anything else.  I'd say that JCU's front 7 is the #1 strength of the team and UWO ran it right at them and had some success.  More than some, enough to win the game.  I wasn't blown away by JCU's WRs, but that's tough to judge when they're matched up with excellent DBs like UWO.  Very few would look good against them.  Even against UWO I did expect better production from the RBs though (combined 20 yds on 13 car for the main 2).  Despite both QBs playing in the scrimmage I was still surprised JCU went with the relief pitcher plan bringing in Larkin midway through the 3rd.  I suppose the silver lining is that they both got game snaps against an excellent D already.  I'll be curious to watch how Finotti handles that going forward.  I still think it's Mount/JCU...gap...everyone else.

ONU:  They didn't look overly impressive on defense, especially against speed guys.  Adrian had a small, jitter bug RB that gave them some trouble on the edge (16 car, 106 yds) and a speedy WR who gave them fits (9 rec, 154 yds).  The main Adrian QB was a big kid, pocket passer.  Williams is just a good RB and he carried the load for them (35 car, 182 yds).  Freed played very well too.  They've got solid skill guys on offense, but that pass defense would worry me.  It's not like Adrian is a juggernaut and a few of those drives were verrrry easy.  ONU vs. Berg is going to be fun again this year.

Week 2 OAC Pick-Em spreads have been posted.  I had a bit of fun with rivalry games ... hope you do as well.   :D

My comment was not in reference to the St. John's score but to the outward rejoicing over JCU and others losing. I should have quoted your earlier comment to make that clear. Nevertheless, I am not sure why you felt it was necessary to gloat over JCU and UWW losses on this board.
