Guys, it's not a knock on Campbell if he were to go to a bigger destination than ISU.  Didn't he leave Toledo and an offer to be the highest paid MAC coach to go to Iowa State in the first place?  It's not a dig and I don't think it would be a bad thing if he was offered and accepted a job at an upper echelon school.  I have no idea what school that would be but let's say Florida would come calling (since that's on the tip of the media's tongues today).  McElwain is making around $3.5M a year.  If that same money was offered to Campbell, I don't see loyalty being the reason he stays.  If the money didn't matter then he'd be Toledo's HC and making around $1M.  I don't blame him at all for going to ISU and wouldn't blame him at all if he were offered more at a destination program if he took it.  I just hope a former classmate of mine at ONU and current WR Coach/ST Coord Bryan Gasser stays on his staff.

This.  Plus, as a competitor, he will turn down the opportunity to turn around programs like Tennessee and Nebraska?

He knows he can do it, given the opportunity to do so.

Campbell is either getting a bigger job or getting a new deal for more $ at ISU.  ISU seems to be pretty committed to stepping up the program so maybe they offer to bump him up to closer to $3m and he stays.  Wouldn't surprise me.  He's got positive momentum there and the Big 12 is the easiest path to the playoff.  But loyalty or not, he's a competitor and ISU is still a stepping stone job.  If Tennessee or Florida come calling he absolutely will and should listen.  If he stays put they'll continue building at ISU and in a couple years maybe a better job is open e.g. Michigan.

I think we all agree - and I agree that I also need a shower (re: agreeing with RC) ;D - but we are making different arguments. Matt is not an ISU lifer. But I am willing to bet he made a list of what he wants to accomplish at ISU and he won't leave until he feels he has accomplisehed what he set out to. He is not a paycheck jumper (i.e. Saban, Ri$hrod, Chip Kelley, Meyer - like it or not he is/was). If he gets an offer - his family will have to be all in or he won't go AND I think he will stay if he feels his job there isn't done. I don't see him leaving ISU now (after season) even if Michigan says - "we got 9mil and a damn cool helmet". Okay, maybe turning down 9mil may be a stretch. But ya get the idea. I don't see him considering a leave from ISU for 2 more full seasons. Plus, the big guys will have to look at the fact that Matt's recruits at ISU haven't even played yet. He has done great with what was on the table when he got there - I would want to see what the guys he brought in will do. Just saying.

Yes.  I think we are all saying the same thing that Matt Campbell is a very good coach and a man of intelligence and integrity. Matt coaches with passion and his team's respond to his style.

My earlier point is that is that if Matt leaves ISU this year or next year or sometime after that it won't be for lack of loyalty. I don't think it is fair to say Matt will be loyal like Larry Kehres and therefore he won't leave.  Matt Campbell is an intelligent person and will make the best Deion for himself and his family. LK is currently a bit preoccupied, but what ever decision Matt makes I know LK will support him 100%.

Campbell is gonna go to Tenn or Florida and Candle will go to Iowa State. win win.   Toledo will get another Mount alum as coach and be fine.   Kehres coaching tree continues to grow!!!!!

gizzmo13

speaking of the coaching tree wonder if Alex Grinch dc at washington st will get a head job somewhere soon.

Which means Matt would have to go after this season - and I don't see it. IF Florida/Tenn were open after next season - maybe. I think Candle goes to Mizzou.

Hate to break up the Matt Campbell conversation but - how does OAC determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd teams? I was curious siince I checked OAC website http://oac.org/sports/fball/index and looked at the stats.

If there was one winner in Week 9 of the 2017 OAC Pick-Em, it was the house.  Remember those smart people that picked all home OAC games last week?  This week that would have earned you zero points.  D3FTBALLFAN was our sole player in double-digits, edging out Sir Battlescars for medalist honors.

reality check is starting to pull away a bit, with a seven-point lead with two weeks remaining.

Week 10 spreads will come out Monday night.

Anybody hear about the condition of the Otterbein quarterback? I saw on a post here that it's probably a broken leg. Sure hope he is as good as possible.
If anyone knows, please post.Thanks.

I hope Campbell doesn't go to UF. Gators are a mess right now and I'm not sure he can fix them.

Not only that - I think UF would see Campbell as a Gamble (poet!). I think they would look at his resume and say 'well sure that's nice. Toledo's a nice little school. Iowa State, that's cute. This if Florida though.'

I don't think Matt has the pedigree they want. Laugh if you want to but there was a time when Tressel to OSU was seen as a stretch and many of their faitful were pissed they didn't get a real coach. Florida doesn't want Matt, they want Spurrier.

reality check

We all know this is a ton of speculation but if Tennessee comes calling, it would be tough to say no to.  Knowxville is an amazing town and has the facilities and resources (boosters) to be enticing.  UT was my second college while I attended ONU as my then girlfriend (now wife of 13 years) was at UT for her undergrad.  Beautiful place, amazing gameday experience and rich history.  They haven't been the same since Phil Fulmer but Campbell could be the guy that gets them back in the mix in the SEC.

FTR, Campbell has had an impact already with "his recruits" as the walk-on QB that ESPN Gameday fell in love with this past weekend was absolutely brought in by Campbell and his staff.
