Don't all DIII programs have "true student-athletes?"  I am not sure what merlecanlas is insinuating about other DIII programs.

was not insinuating anything.  Just that if Heidelberg finished 8-2 and was one fluky loss from hosting a playoff game, I don't see the need to talk bad about them.  It should be a season to build upon for next year.

Unfortunately, they may have blown their best chance for a bit.  They graduate a lot of talent this year.  Too bad because they may have been able to win a playoff game if they had gone 9-1.  When is the last time Berg won a playoff game??  They should have won one against Witt during the Brooks era, but lost a crazy game in Tiffin.

I bet you are looking at 1972, Berg's Stagg Bowl championship season.  Post that Marietta score all over the weight room and every football office.  Giving up 37 unanswered to Marietta is unacceptable for a team with playoff aspirations.

That being said, who would have thought Berg would go 8-2 and Marietta 7-3 in the same season, ever?  Marietta could have been on the outskirts of the playoff picture had they not lost to BW.   Weird year in the OAC

Merle,
were you at the 1972 West Regional championship (Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl)? 1972    Heidelberg    28–16    Fort Valley State    Phenix City, Alabama.

No one.  Ever!  With Cap and Ott left it's definitely not out of the question for Etta to finish 7-3.  Incredible.  If that happens that COY vote should be unanimous.  Sorry VK.

Especially with Stepp out (I'm assuming).  Marietta should finish 7-3 and in 3rd place in the OAC, or 2nd with Berg berging once again.   Who had that happening this year?

Dr. Acula

Looking over the 2 deep this week I see that Ruth is absent.  Herrington predictably slid in as the other starting WR.  No sense in playing Ruth against Musky unless he is absolutely 100%.  Heal up.  They're gonna need you later.

A couple guys previously back ups are listed as starters this week:  JEM at RB, Moxie at TE, Wilder at Bandit.

Freshman DB Tanner Murray is listed as a back up corner.  I think that may be his first appearance on the 2 deep.

Groves is listed as back up WS this week.  I wonder when the last time was that he wasn't a starter?  20 some games?  Not that it matters much.  They rotate those guys in and out throughout the game anyway.

Sherman is also absent from the 2 deep on the O line.  He has been moved around on there between a few positions, but he has always been somewhere.  Hope he's not injured.

If he's being honest I can't imagine even Waddle thought that was a real possibility.  I'm pulling for them.  It'd be a great story and a fantastic recruiting pitch for him this off season.

Ruth will be fine, save him for tougher games.  so after JCU

Moxie is a much better Mount TE than the big transfer

Where was Groves starting before?  Bandit, Spur?  Cox and White have been lights out as safeties

Pretty sure  Sherman went out of the game last week and iced his knee(after dropping the throwback pass).

There seem to be some changes on the Oline as well. I bet these changes are to see what guys can play in game situations before JCU/playoffs. I'm surprised Herrington is playing after the hits he took last week honestly. He didn't look good on the sideline.

I do like seeing some young talent developing behind our senior-led Dline. Those guys are getting better and creating depth. Interesting that they now have Howell listed as an OL and DL, but he did play TE in HS which can translate well to OT. Go Ders and stay healthy!
