The JCU 1997 team was at the Shula to remember the season they had, which ended at Mount Union in a blowout playoff loss. In that game London Fletcher ended his career when he was thrown out of the game for fighting with one of Mount's linemen. JCU retired his jersey, No.3, in a nice ceremony at halftime.

I wonder if there is some sort of freshmen orientation class at JCU where they teach this sort of behavior.  Great, classy folks in University Heights every other year.

IWU will be a tough game for round 2 if they win.  Their defense is excellent.  Not sure how much they can score on Mount, but they'll push Fulford and the boys.

Boy I hope our D line rests up this week. I took a quick look at W & L stats .... I think it was 34-78-2 passing for the season...THE SEASON! They must think a pass is when go around a slower car on the freeway? The main running back has 1600 yds for the season and he rushed for 199-250-280  the last three games. I hope we can rotate some linemen and lb's . The d backs may have to have some one wake them up between plays.

Interesting, I can't remember Mount ever playing a triple option team so it should be a fun matchup to watch. I'd think Mounts team speed on D will make it tough sledding for the generals though

Yes. And I'm guessing your dline will be bigger than our oline. W&L is a solid D3 team from a balanced conference. They have a few good pieces that individually might stack up against their UMU opposite, but not a team of them. The scheme does a lot that admissions standards can't for a given level of play. So think of Georgia Tech or Navy. The scheme helps them compete with most anyone outside the true elite, but they aren't winning a National Title and they aren't going to scheme their way past Alabama except maybe one in 50 games. Most of the time they are going to take lumps against the true elite teams.

Just came across a pretty interesting stat. Mount Union is the only team in the country to have given up zero rushing touchdowns this year by opposing offenses. Should be a good sign since the other members of the top 4 rankings are pretty run heavy.

I certainly remember the Augustana team that came to Purple Stadium in 1999 and ran the option. They controlled the ball, marched up and down the field and seemed unstoppable. We were lucky to have such great skilled players like Gary Smeck to save the day. I remember how silent the home crowd was as the Auggies would get 4 yards, then 6 yards, then 9 yards, and first down after first down. It was mano-a-mano hard nosed football all day.

Just wanted to say good luck to Mount Union as the begin another playoff run! I'm sure they will represent the conference well (and maybe bring the trophy back to the OAC, where they can keep it warm for John Carroll next year! )
Tough game to lose yesterday, and for a minute, I really thought we were going to pull it out. Hopefully, the two teams playing close games continues for the foreseeable future (and hopefully accompanied by the rise of some other teams). I think it's true that competition breeds excellence!

To all mount fans-

As we get ready for the playoffs, as usual, we have a few guys dinged up. That is, they are in a state of ding!
Often on this board, time is spent discussing these injuries in some detail. I'm fairly certain the opponent finds out on their own. However; let's not give them any information. Why state " Joe Player has a high ankle sprain and will likely not play or is doubtful at best"? I see this type of comment very often.
I'll probably get some flack for the above comments. But, as an old Mount alumnus, I want my team to have every advantage possible. Would love to see #13 in Alliance.
