former Mount players are hot right now on the coaching carousel.  Candle probably won't be at UT much longer and Alex Grinch and Tommy Manning will make it four FBS head coaches for Mount in the next couple of years.  Let's just hope VK hangs up the phone when Kent comes calling.

Frostburg St. looks like they're going to be a really solid test.  Skimming their website a couple interesting items:

They're good defensively.  Surrendering just 2.5 yds/rush and 12.7 pts/gm.  Right there you know they're good IMO.  They've forced 26 turnovers and have 38 sacks (half of those by 2 linemen).  They also allow just 23.5% conversions on 3rd downs.  Niles Scott is a big boy on the D line (6-3, 295) who also has 10 sacks.  This line looks on paper like a good challenge for the Mount O line.  W&J did convert 8 of 16 3rd downs last week.

Offensively they're balanced (2800 passing/2300 rushing).  I watched them play against Witt and the QB is slippery.  He can keep plays alive with his feet.  Playing Cuda last week was good preparation for Frostburg.  They do turn it over (11 picks thrown by Connor Cox, 14 lost fumbles for the team).  Like Mount Frostburg has 2 RB's with significant carries (953 yds, 686 yds).  Both are 200+ lbs.  They have 5 WR with between 400 and 554 yds on the season so they clearly spread it around.  This may be advantageous for Mount in that their skilled depth at DB is superior to anyone Frostburg has seen to date.  To put it another way, if you give me the choice to play a team with a superstar WR and 3 meh WR's or a team with 4 pretty good guys I'd choose the latter.  I'm not sure Mount has a total shutdown corner, but I know they have quality depth.

I think this will be the best team Mount has played this year.  This does not mean I think they'll be closer than JCU necessarily.  JCU is a rivalry game and they played like it.  I'm thinking something like 35-17.

The more I look at Frostburg the more I think this could be interesting.  In their game against Wesley that they lost in OT, FSU had 27 first downs, was 7 of 16 on 3rd down, averaged 6.5 yds/carry and had over 500 yards of offense.   That's a good day against a really good team.   Wesley is much better than anyone Mount has played to date and those offensive numbers are impressive.

Should be a good game on Saturday.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Candle is/was reportedly on the Mississippi State shortlist.

If he was going to leave for a bigger job he would have done so already.

^  I agree.  If he was interested in climbing thru the coaching ranks he'd have left while still D coordinator to take a similar job or something like LB coach at the D1 level.  I seriously doubt Vince is walking away from the HC position at this point.

Cha Ching.  Glad for him and glad to see him stay in Iowa for a few more years.  Will be ready for Ohio State when Urban steps down.

I'm not as confident on that.  Had he left before he would have moved to D1 as a position coach (like Hallett did).  But enough success as a HC at Mount and maybe he can get a MAC HC job?  The Kent job sucks, but Candle is making 700k at Toledo.  That's A LOT of money compared to what VK makes currently.  If Kent calls and wants to pay you 400k to walk into that dumpster fire you hang up the phone.  If Candle leaves and Toledo called?  Well, that's a different story IMO.

Toledo would be more likely to call up Grinch and Manning then VK.  Kent is barely FBS at this point

its not always about money. Larry was very loyal. Hopefully Vince stays a long long long long time..

I would not be so sure of that.  If a Kent/Toledo/MAC type school came calling, it would not surprise me if VK listened.  I agree not as a coordinator, but as a HC.  Could get interesting.
