Okay, Jeff Zupanic of the Alliance Review says he won't talk about Fulford's troubles unless those troubles affects his status as an athlete (or student).

Well, I guess being demoted (for one game at least) from first-string to sideline is not newsworthy as to his athletic status.

Notice anything missing from Zupanic's account of today's game?

Perhaps HSCoach's assessment of Mr. Zupanic was dead-on.

DB's have some work to do if they hope to win the next two. They play the receiver, don't look for the ball, and fail to get their hands up when the receiver reaches for the ball.  If you are going to play with your back to the ball, you have to play the receiver's hands when the ball arrives, and we are not too adept at it.

It was a problem for Trey Jones, but he adjusted to the level of competition.  The WRs and passing attacks in the tournament are a big step up from OAC play.

I think the DBs will be fine.  They'll need to play well against the run and pass the last two games, though.  I really like how the safeties are sticking their noses in there on run plays.  Looking forward to Mount/Oshkosh.

Pathetic. 0 credibility. Clearly toeing the line. What a joke.

Zupanic's main job is to cover MTU Athletics.

If he tries to force the Fulford issue he upsets VK/LK and then never gets insider info again.

Canton Rep reporter asks the question and basically gets the vanilla answer, meaning VK wasn't going to elaborate.

IMO, not worth Zupanic pushing the issue.  Gotta pay the mortgage.

Disrespect for the unwritten rules of football, or something like that that's apparently really really important.

Reporting only good news doesn't make you a reporter, it makes you a fan.  Zupanic showed his rear this week.  I get that it's unpleasant and uncomfortable, but a thing happened on his beat that he should have written about and he purposefully ignored it.  He failed.

Coming from someone who was an editor in a former life, ultimately it is the editor's call as to what appears in print or online. The editor can add or subtract from a report as he/she so desires. However, if the reporter did not pursue a line of questioning it could be because he did not want to or it could also be that his editor instructed him not to go there. No way to know unless someone divulges the inside information.

Regardless of who made the call to ignore the controversy, it is what I would expect from a small market newspaper in this day of so-called journalism. This is just one more reason a publication like D3Football needs to exist.

The Alliance Review is NOT the NY Times or Washington Post. The local, home town news paper does not do investigative journalism . Generally, it wants to sell positive features on the program and athletes, and reporting of the details of the game.  That is what Zupanic does and does well.  The Review management does not want to do anything to hurt its relationship with the University.  The Fulford issue was not going to be discussed by anyone on the Mount coaching staff, or anyone associated with the program. No local reporter was going to get any "scoop". All any reporter could do was speculate, which most posters have done on this site.   Not all newspapers, especially local papers, have the stones or the desire to pursue negative stories.  They will report the court reports and police blotters, but will not follow up.
Zupanic is doing exactly what he is paid to do.

I agree with you on Zupanic. When reporters cover only the good news everyone loves them and they (the reporters) don't have to work - its fun. What makes it a job is reporting the bad stuff as well. I think LK/VK have enough interaction and experience with Zupanic that they would have gotten over it. His piece and lack of questioning is fluff and a homer job.

HOWEVER - On Vidal you are both (meant to have jamtotommie in here) wrong. Stand for the anthem, or kneel (I honestly don't care) - but do so in your teams designated spot. Frostburg was trying to send a message by waiting until Mount took the field to come out of the tunnel and then heading to Mounts end zone for the huddle. The officials took it that way, that's why they were separating them - and Mount took it that way too.

My comment was mostly sarcasm. If it was done intentionally to provoke, then absolutely. I was not aware that there was a spot designated by rule, but it sounds like this is something that Frostburg routinely does. I'm hesitant to make an automatic judgment on that without knowing the intent, but you may very well be correct. I just get rather annoyed with some of the assumptions about certain unwritten rules in the game of football that are sacrosanct and must be respected, that have no real basis in reality or logic.

Congrats Mount on the resounding win! Zupanic clearly knows where is bread is buttered and is content in being a boot licker.

Anygame I have ever attended (HS, College) has the teams at designated ends for pregame warmups etc. NOrmally the reserves line up across the field to separate the teams. Mount is the south endzone...for every game I have ever attended.
